Retreat location

Monteriggioni is a commune in the province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany. It borders on the communes of Casole d’Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Colle di Val d’Elsa, Poggibonsi, Siena, and Sovicille.

The town is architecturally and culturally significant; it hosts several piazzas, and is referenced in Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. It is a great starting point to discover the area.

Tuscany is filled with history. From the Etruscan, through the Roman to the Medieval and Renaissance Period, we can find many historic buildings throughout the countryside. Literally every stone has a story to tell.

Food

You will be pampered by a team of private chefs. Most of the food is precedent of the very same farm where you will be staying, some are coming from neighboring farms, but everything is organic. Dinners include local wine too!

The following meals are included:

  • Brunch
  • Dinner
  • Drinks

The following dietary requirement(s) are served and/or catered for:

  • Organic
If you have special dietary requirements it's a good idea to communicate it to the organiser when making a reservation

Things to do (optional)

Ancient walking trail: Via Francigena

The Via Francigena is the ancient route that in medieval times connected Canterbury to Rome. Nowadays it remains a path of pilgrimage, as the way of Santiago di Compostela but also represents a different way to discover Tuscany. Take a journey through time in close contact with the environment and locals.

City of Art

In Tuscany, there are seven sites protected by Unesco and some of them are very close by. Monteriggioni is within walking distance (1.8 kilometers) and once in the village, you can take a visual tour of the towers of the Tuscan countryside, Siena (15 kilometers), and Florence (45 kilometers) considered being open-air museums.

You can also go and see Pisa with its pendant tower (100 kilometers), San Gimignano (25 kilometers) and Volterra (40 kilometers) with their competing medieval towers are within reach, Valdorcia (38 kilometers) and it’s surreal Tuscan landscapes.

Take a tour in Pienza (85 kilometers), San Galgano (39 kilometers), famous for the prophecy of the sword in the stone and Arezzo (85 kilometers) where you can find beautiful alfresco from Piero della Francesca. Colle val d’elsa is just 10 kilometers away and has a stunning old town still out of main tourist circuits.

Wine routes and panoramic drives

Chianti is another entertaining itinerary that is quite close. The main sites to visit are Castellina in Chianti (15 kilometers) Radda in Chianti (25 kilometers) and Greve in Chianti (34 kilometers). Just the drive through the wine cultivated hills justify the excursion.

Other destinations rich in history, combining a panoramic drive with a degustation experience are Montalcino (55 kilometers) with his Brunello wine and Montepulciano (75 kilometers) known for the Nobile di Montepulciano wine and Bolgheri, famous for its cypress-lined road and the prestigious Sassicaia wine.

Relaxation / thermal

For a tour with a restorative soak, visit Bagni Vignone, (40 kilometers) a medieval village built around a pool of natural thermal hot spring water, Rapolano Terme (45 kilometers), and Bagni San Filippo (80 kilometers).
