During the retreat, you will be staying at Iapetos Village. It is a unique hotel, a real oasis very close to the town center of Symi. It consists of a newly established group of traditional houses, which frame the exotic garden and the hotel's astonishing swimming pool.

In Iapetos, everybody can enjoy the magnificent service in a luxurious environment with reasonable prices. In the bar of the hotel, you can enjoy your drink next to the beautiful Neoclassically styled swimming pool and soak up the astonishing atmosphere of the exotic garden.

Iapetos Village consists of 19 luxurious maisonettes and six studio apartments. The maisonettes are two-floor rooms of 60 square meters. They also have a separate bedroom for children downstairs and they can accommodate up to six persons.

The studio apartments are one-floor apartments of 40 square meters with balcony or terrace. They can accommodate up to four persons and include all the amenities, such as bath or shower facilities, coffee and tea facilities, hair dryer, telephone, air-conditioning or heater, fridge, fully equipped kitchen, and television.

What if you could create a greater balance and healthier daily routine through tips you can easily practice back in your city lifestyle during the winter? This retreat is ideal tools that work for you to realign yourself when you feel that life is not treating you well.

Body and Mind Retreats is a group of three different professionals linking together body-mind-heart techniques. They love what they do and they wish to share their unique techniques with each one of you, in a wonderful combination of nature and architecture on the small island of Symi.

During the week, the daily program will consist of morning meditation and yoga by Body and Mind Retreats' yoga instructor followed by body energy and mindfulness sessions with holistic coaching by the holistic exercise physiologist. You will then have time for rest, do beach activities, or go hiking throughout the day. Later in the afternoon, there will be a Pilates session with breathing exercises guided by Body and Mind Retreats' sophrologist.

Both yoga and Pilates courses will focus on the alignment of the physical practice and the biomechanics of the movement. By the end of the week, you will receive customized advice regarding your personal, holistic lifestyle on nutrition, sleep, breathing meditation, and exercise intensity for your daily performance.

The priority of the retreat is that you eat and drink what you like, and everything is optional, including all the coaching classes. If you are tired and feel like you want to skip some classes, no one will judge you. Body and Mind Retreats will make sure there is always fun and adventure and a warm group feeling. They will make sure that you enjoy yourself and you enjoy the holiday as much as the activities.

After the retreat, you can return with learning tools that will help you to better cope with your stress and keep up the healthy lifestyle, have healthier relations with yourself and others, have more focus on your work, and be a happier version of you.

Holistic coaching and exercise with Sofia

Holistic coaching and exercise approach includes a combined and intensive study of the relationship between exercise, food routines, recovery time, and lifestyle habits, the tools to recognize and create individualized exercise, and metabolic type eating plans to improve the client’s health and overall wellness.

In addition, you will be coached on the important roles that sleep, food quality, stress reduction techniques, and exercise play in improving your health, and learn practical methods that initiate valuable lifestyle changes.

Pilates and yoga courses with Orsi

The aim of the Pilates is to create harmony between body and mind. It is often referred as remedial gymnastic, and it is frequently used to prevent or rehabilitate injuries. The exercise helps to tone your entire body, strengthen abdominal muscles, and, therefore, reduce lower back pain. It is a great method to relieve stiffness from your back or shoulders. During her courses, you will learn the classical exercise routine with different prop modifications and building blocks.

Sophrology and meditation with Valerie

Valerie will start the day with you and first guide you in meditation time, then she will help you awaken your body through a dynamic introspection to connect body, heart, and mind for the beautiful day ahead. You will end the day with a body alignment through sophrology using breath as a doorway to consciousness and you will stay focussed on sensations to stay in the present.

You will have a tour around the island. The traditional boat, Poseidon, makes daily cruises around the island. It is a magnificent excursion and a unique experience, worth experiencing. You will have the chance to see unique landscapes and swim in crystal clear waters. The boat leaves from the port and is directed to Fokospilia. It is the first stop of the trip. Inside the cave, there is a hidden beach where you can swim and see the seals that live there.

Next stop is the beach of Saint Basil. It is a secluded bay where you stay for one hour of swimming and sunbathing. Afterwards, you will be heading to Panormiti, where passengers can visit the homonym monastery. Yanis, the captain, owner, and host, is a wonderful character. He likes to open drinks (ouzo and wine) and an excellent buffet lunch on a small island belonging to Panormitis monastery.

  • Orsolya Nagyistok

    Orsi is a Pilates, yoga, and fitness instructor and a certified personal trainer to teach numerous methods. Originally, she had a different university background but she ended up in fitness, following her passions and to relieve lower back pain caused by dancing and intensive horse riding. Orsi was initially certified in classical Pilates techniques for mat work and later trained in Stott Pilates for the full repertoire of machines. She has taken workshops in Los Angeles, Budapest, and Brussels, and constantly works to expand her knowledge.

    Sofia is an exercise physiologist and holistic lifestyle check coach. She is a Greek citizen and has lived in many different countries for work purposes. She studied sports and exercise science in Greece, did her masters in adapted physical activity, and did her doctor of philosophy and postdoctoral in exercise physiology in Belgium. She also followed the corrective holistic exercise kinesiology and lifestyle training in San Diego and the Hippocrates health lifestyle in Miami. She has held the position of European Development Commissioner of Wheelchair Rugby for disabled athletes.

  • Valerie Chatel

    Valerie has been a body therapist for 15 years. She has experience in working with individuals, as well as groups, and offers her competency to help companies integrate well-being at work.

The retreat will take place in Symi, Greece. Symi has stunning scenery, fabulous food, and the most welcoming people. Symi is a blissful find on an island in the Aegean Sea, held delicately in a claw of Turkey, whose hills are visible from the main port of Yialos. Symi is a little more commercial than 14 years ago, but the beauty of it remains untouched.

Yialos, reputed to be the most beautiful harbor in the Dodecanese, has a stunning backdrop of cream, ochre, and russet Italianate houses. From late morning to mid afternoon, the port bustles with tourists across from Rhodes. However, evenings belong to the inhabitants, resident holidaymakers, and the international yachting community, who moor a range of craft from the modest to the breathtakingly luxurious. Their presence undoubtedly pushes prices up.

Symi is not the island for a budget holiday. If you want to stay in a lively area, choose Yialos, which is also the main tourist center with many excellent shops and tavernas ranging from average to high prices. Chorio, on the hilltop above the harbor is more laid back. In Chorio, you are likely to get chatting with fellow tourists.

Homer’s Iliad records that Symi provided three ships for the Troy-bound Greek fleet. One myth is that Symi was named for the princess of Rhodes who eloped there with the god Glaucus. Other theories link Symi semantically with the word ‘monkey’ and claim it was a place of exile for Prometheus.

Like most of the Greek islands, Symi was invaded in World War II and saw conflict. The peace of the Dodecanese was signed at Catherinettes Taverna in Yialos. Symi was also a sponge diving island, a fascinating exhibition in Symi National Maritime Museum.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Kos Island International Airport (KGS), then take a boat to Symi Island at 4 p.m. For the return journey, please check the boat correspondence before you book your return flight.

Alternatively, you can also take a flight to Rhodes International Airport (RHO). You may stay one night in Rhodes and then take a morning boat to Symi. On the return journey, leave one day earlier from Symi to Rhodes, spend one night in Rhodes, and fly to Brussels from Rhodes the day after. Rhodes is a very nice place to visit with its medieval castle city.
