Hinterland Village offers comfortable, spacious and clean rooms nestled in the heart of Kerala's tropical greenery. Experience the warmth and intimacy of a home-stay with the added modest luxuries of a resort. Each of the eleven available rooms are different and offer a unique blend of antique charm and modern comfort. There are a number of options of shared, double or single rooms. The aim of this course is to lay the basic foundation in various Raja Yoga philosophies and practice, including Hatha Yoga (Asana practice) in preparation for future teacher training programs or for your own deeper yoga practice. This 100-hour course provides you with an enlightening and genuine understanding of the basic tenets of Raja Yoga that will enable you to teach Hatha Yoga for beginners as a profession. This will also give you an opportunity to experience the yogic way of living for two weeks in a modestly luxurious eco-resort in the heart of Kerala. This course is for all levels of Yoga practitioners who intend to deepen their understanding of this ancient science, which not only improves your mental and physical health but also connects you deeply with the rhythms of our universe.

Sample daily schedule

  • 06:30 - 08:30 Pranayama or asanas
  • 08:30 - 10:00 Breakfast and free time
  • 10:00 - 13:00 Theory, Yoga Philosophy and Ayurvedic treatments

  • 15:30 - 17:30 Asanas (yoga posture corrections) and Pranayama

Training and practice- 60 hours

Intense asana practice, pranayama, Kriyas, meditation, mantra chanting and advanced asana techniques.

Teaching methodology – 10 hours

Principles of demonstration, correction, qualities of a teacher, instructions, observations, Yoga in the modern world as a profession.

Anatomy and physiology – 8 hours

Theoretical knowledge of body systems and their practical application with yoga.

Philosophy - 15 hours

The study of yoga philosophies and lifestyle. The student will gain a basic knowledge about Yogic philosophy through daily afternoon lectures.

  • The mind of the aspirant
  • The self as existence, knowledge and bliss

Conquest of death Karma yoga – 3 hours

Karma Yoga is selfless service. Students will get an opportunity to work with and in the natural surroundings as an act of selfless service.

Practicum – 4 hours

Students will gain opportunity to teach beginners class, receive feedback and assist other student classes.

Evaluation and certification

Evaluation is based on general attitude and behavior of the student, attendance and daily summary of the lectures.

Each student will enjoy 3 complimentary Ayurveda massages throughout the duration of the course. With groups of maximum 10 students, participants will have an intimate and hands-on experience, building rapport with instructors and staff.

On day 7, transportation to nearby places in Kochi are organized, if there are a minimum number of participants.

    Jayesh holds a master's degree in yoga and is a qualified instructor of both Hatha and Ashtanga traditions. For the past five years, he has traveled to various parts of the world to share his passion for teaching yoga and spirituality to a vast number of people from different walks of life. Jayesh works at various yoga centers around India where he teaches Hatha yoga, asanas, pranayama, Nidra yoga, kriyas, meditation, and different stress management and relaxation techniques. He also specializes in diabetic therapy and professional yoga.

    Dr. Seetha Lekshmi is the granddaughter of the late and eminent Ayurvedic physician Panditarajan Trikkovil Rama Warrier. Dr. Seetha has rekindled her grandfathers pristine vision of providing health solutions to the society by combining ancient Ayurvedic knowledge with modern wisdom. Her fundamental quest is to bring peace both to individuals and to the ever-changing societies.

    Dr. Rajeev R. Warrier has a vast experience working in rural and tribal Indian localities as part of various social organizations. He is interested in cultivating herbal medicines with social participation, which ensures both the quality of the medicine and the economic empowerment of the village folk. In recent years, he has shared his knowledge and wisdom about Ayurveda not only to numerous rural villages in India, but also to international travelers who seek physical and mental relief through Ayurveda.

    Saji Ramaswami is a professional yoga trainer and a spiritual teacher with special experience in the classic style of yoga, meditation, and philosophy of yoga-vedanta. He has been practicing yoga for more than 20 years in various ashrams and yoga schools in India. He is working as a yoga master with Hinterland since 2015 leading their yoga retreats and teacher training workshops. His special techniques combined with his gentle, peace, and kind manners, helps beginners as well as skilled yoga practitioners. Many yoga and spiritual aspirants have benefited from his inspiring talks and teachings.

The retreat takes place at Kerala, India. Hinterland Village is seven acres of lush greenery - a haven of rich native biodiversity and an oasis of peace on the outskirts of the city of Kochi.
