Blue Star Maldives Surf and Yoga Retreat is an established surf charter boat with nine years of experience operating in Maldives. Most importantly, the members of Blue Star Maldives Surf and Yoga Retreat are surfers too, so they understand the importance of balancing the body with surf specific training out of the water. Many people go home after their surf holiday with repetitive stress injuries and strains from the huge volume of time that surfers spend paddling in the water. In response to this, a specialized program has been created for you to improve your core strength, flexibility, and joint mobility in the areas where surfers need it most.
The accommodation for this retreat is in shared double rooms with females and males roomed separately. Each room in the boat has its own shower and toilet. The bedding will either be in bunks for singles or double beds for couples, but the availability of the double rooms is limited.
This will be the daily itinerary:
Surfers can go snorkelling anytime during the day. There are incredible coral and marine life at all of the locations where you will be able to surf. Depending on the location, you can also visit the nearby virgin islands and the local islands to explore. Fishing trips are also optional.
We have a rotating schedule of Yoga Instructors in residence on the boat each month who teach our classes. They are all qualified and have extensive experience teaching yoga, specifically yoga for surfers.
Demelza Clay is the on-board operations manager and surf guide. She is also a pilates instructor and physical trainer. Hailing from Australia, Demelza has a Bachelor of Human Movement Science degree, majoring in coaching, biomechanics, and nutrition. With fifteen years of experience training surfers and skiers, she brings to the boat a wealth of knowledge in how to rehabilitate, nourish, and strengthen the body, so you can minimize overuse injuries and surf to your highest potential.
The surfer's retreat is held from May to October in and around the atolls of North Male, Maldives. You will surf the world class breaks of the Maldives including: sultans, jails, honkey's, cokes, and chickens. You will surf in a few secret spots too.
The menu is a combination of healthy local and foreign dishes designed to feed hungry surfers. Unlike other tropical countries, most of the food in Maldives is flown in from overseas due to the limited farming that takes place there. Despite this, you will be provided a balanced menu of fresh fish dishes, salads, asian curries, chicken, vegetables, some popular western dishes, home-baked snacks. Food allergies will be catered such as dairy, gluten, and specific food allergies. However, due to the limited kitchen space, it cannot be guaranteed that cross contamination will be prevented.
Occasionally, there is a massage therapist on-board, however, this is not guaranteed. Although depending on the location, it is possible to take you to an island resort to have a spa treatment or a massage, but this is also not guaranteed.
Take a plane to the Male Airport (MLE). Transfers can to the boat can be arranged at an additional cost. Prices vary on the number of people being transferred.
