Patricia White

Patricia White was born in the United States and lives in Ecuador, enabling her to offer all guests the best of both worlds. She is a bilingual and certified as a experienced registered yoga teacher with accreditation from the Niroga Institute Mindfulness for Stress Resilience. International clients and travel groups feel right at home with their practice in Ecuador without sacrificing an ounce of South American authenticity. She moved to Ecuador five years ago, working for a tourism based non-government organization, creating volunteer rural community programs focused on community development and environmental conservation with children of Ecuador. It has been an amazing, life changing experience and designing international travel projects has lent a strong foundation for setting up all of the Betty Adventures.

Her experience managing international travel programs has allowed her to envision a distinctive niche for women in the travel industry. Creating Betty Adventures and living in Ecuador have been the biggest challenge and adventure she has lived so far. Patricia will create an original surf experience, by also providing first quality equipment and instruction in an authentic Ecuadorian village.

Betty Surf and Yoga is located on the northwestern coast of Ecuador, in a small town named Canoa, a small fishing village with a modest tourism industry and nearby tropical jungle that features an incredibly diverse array of plants and wildlife. The Manabi province is host to several volunteer organizations and forestry projects including reserves and organic farms.

Canoa also has an ideal beach break for folks learning to surf with warm tropical water to surf in, no rocks, no reef, no riptides, no sharks, and 15 miles of abandoned beach break which means low competition for waves. This explains the friendly locals' attitude towards foreign surfers and the willingness to share waves with a spirit of abundance.

"This place offers yoga sessions 5 days (sometimes even on Saturdays) a week, somewhat 60-90 minutes. We went for a monthly pass for $60 and you can attend as many classes you like within a month. Single lessions are $10 each. Mostly the owner Patricia teached but there were also guest teachers on some days. We enjoyed it a lot!"

"It was a lot of fun having Patricia as a surfing instructor. She was very encouraging but would let you do what you could do and have fun in the process. At 72 years old you need all the encouragement you can get. She was also very helpful with what to do in Canoa."

"I was on my own when I landed in Canoa, with one plan on my mind: surf, sleep, rest, repeat. I was desperately in need of a place to recharge and hoping to find a few friendly faces to introduce me to the area. Betty Surf and Yoga was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I got a great board at a great rate, several days of rejuvenating yoga, and the opportunity to connect with a new friend who not only introduced me to her local beach break but also reinspired my world view. Couldn't have asked for more. If you are heading down the Ecuadorian coast, don't miss Betty's! Anyone looking to relax with a local vibe and a view of the beach will be happy with all she has to offer."

"After a trip to the Galápagos, we came out of our way to experience Betty's Surf and Yoga- and it was SO worth it! We're middle aged women and Patricia made it so easy- we were up on our boards the first day and surfing the next! The yoga classes are the perfect compliment to surfing- stretching, balance and focus help you hone your surfing skills. Patricia's energy is contagious and she's a natural-born teacher. This is a destination worth planning your trip around- we'll definitely be back!"

"This was my second trip to Canoa and also my second trip enjoying yoga with Patricia at Betty Yoga. This year she also added the amazing Aerial yoga, which is a wonderful way to relax and destress at the end of a long plane ride from USA. I am planning to take the surf classes at Betty Surf and Yoga."

"I spent a wonderful few days with Betty's doing both surf and yoga. We did a range of different yoga classes including a deep stretching Yin class, gentle Vinyasa, and Aerial yoga, all of which I enjoyed. It was my first time surfing and absolutely loved it. Patricia is awesome and her explanations were very clear. My group all picked it up pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend it."

"My husband and I took yoga classes with Patricia and then decided to try out surfing classes as well. My husband had a little surf experience, but I was a total newbie. Patricia was fantastic at explaining the basic principles of surfing and how they relate to yoga. I stood up on the first day and Patricia was able to cater to us both, at different levels, at once. My husband feels much more confident now on a board. Patricia was also very accommodating with board rentals after the lessons. I highly recommend Betty Surf and Yoga studio."

"I have never surfed in my life and decided to take 3 surf classes at Betty's because of the reviews here on TripAdvisor. I'm pleased to say the reviews did not let me down. My experience was super fun, my instructor Cedric was incredibly patient and helpful, the equipment was clean and of good quality - overall, very professional. I got exactly what I expected and maybe a bit more. I am proud to say that I was able to stand up on the board during the first lesson, and learned a few other techniques as well. Highly recommended"

"I am going regularly to morning sessions of Yoga at the Betty Surf and Yoga in Canoa. It is so invigorating and a great way to start the day. Either at the house, or right on the beach, the Yoga classes are fun and also catered to ability. I have tried surfing a few times but have easily given up. The classes are inspiring me to give it another go. The instructor, Patricia is very professional, friendly and fun. I highly recommend Betty surf and yoga camp."
