Please book your flight to arrive at San Jose International Airport (SJC). This is by far the easiest way to get to Punta Banco. There are daily flights by Sansa Airlines and Nature Air that leave from San Jose International Airport to Golfito. Each flight takes about an hour. They can cost anywhere from 70 USD - 180 USD. Please keep in mind that both Sansa and Nature Air do have weight limits for baggage.
You can rent a car from the airport and drive down to Punta Banco. There are a lot of rental places in Costa Rica. To name a few: Solid, Alamo, National Car Rental, Economy, Budget, and AVIS. Prices vary dramatically.
You can take the bus from San Jose to Punta Banco, Costa Rica. Although very inexpensive, this bus ride can take upwards of eight and a half hours. That’s a long time on a bus. But you get to stop in some different places, eat some good food on the road, and save a few bucks.
From San José, you can buy a ticket at the Tracopa terminal (every taxi drivers knows where it is). If possible, Beth Anne Yoga advises you to buy your ticket a day in advance, because it can get crowded, especially in the weekends.
Take the 07:00 bus to Golfito, which arrives there around 14:30. This trip costs about 12 USD. From Golfito, take the bus to Pavones at 15:00. It departs near the supermarket across the street from the hospital. This is about a two to three hour trip and costs around 2.40 USD.
In case of a lack of time, you can get off the bus at t-junction kilómetro 14 (between Golfito and Pavones) and get on the Pavones bus there. Whatever you do, make sure you are on that bus, because it only goes to Casa Marea Alta once a day. You’ll arrive in front of Tiskita (which is a lodge located directly next door to the venue) around 18:00.
To return to San Jose, buses depart Pavones daily at 05:30 and 12:30 for Golfito. They depart Golfito in front of the Deposito Libre at 05:00 and 13:30. The trip takes about eight hours and costs 12 USD.
If, by any chance, you miss the last bus to Pavones, you can take a taxi from Golfito to the Casa Marea Alta, which will cost you around 80 USD. Beth Anne Yoga is happy to arrange this taxi for you as well.
