During this retreat, you will be staying at BeingSattvaa, a beautiful retreat center near the town of Ubud in Bali. The place is a labor of love of a couple who, after spending many successful years in the corporate world, wanted to create an oasis of healing and peace, where people can immerse themselves in natural beauty and have the experience of complete well-being.

The essential concept behind BeingSattvaa is the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, harmony with nature, harmony with each other, and with the divine. This makes it a perfect venue for the retreat, which is all about exploring the underlying harmony of life.

Accommodation, which will be made exclusive to the retreat participants, includes a combination of rooms with double beds and twin beds. The downstairs bathrooms are open but very private. Exclusive spots for contemplation and relaxation are available throughout the retreat.

This retreat is suitable for practitioners of all level. In this retreat, you will explore powerful tools for letting go of mental and emotional baggage, and to reach deeply into the richness of your being. The practices you will explore together will be drawn from wisdom, traditions, and empowering contemporary discoveries.

Together, you will create a warm, safe, and joyful space where you can step away from your usual preoccupations and come together in a spirit of wonder and discovery. There will be opportunities for solitude, reflection, group practice, and insightful sharing. This retreat is an invitation to live in awareness, experience natural well-being, and authentically express yourself.

You will arrive after midday on Sunday, November 6, 2016, which is a relaxed day for settling in and informal sharing. Mornings will begin with a mindfulness meditation session and move into asana practice. The focus of the asana will be to create a solid foundation, thereby building a safer and stronger practice.

Adding the Ashtanga Vinyasa method of coordinating breath and movement (Vinyasa), the three locks (Bandha), and gaze (Drishti), these morning sessions will take you into the discovery of the breath, lightness, and focus.

You will then balance the asana to create inner harmony, using the natural elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space or ether within yourself. The result is a safer, stronger, lighter practice, leading to deeper awareness of oneself.

The afternoon session will look at a discovery of yoga philosophy and its relevance in the modern world, using Patanjali's yoga sutra and discussing the eight limbs, regarded by many as the seminal text on yoga. Retreat will end on Saturday, 12 November, 2016, and you will depart after breakfast.

  • Guided rice field walk and kampung tour
  • Purification ritual at Tirta Empul temple, Gunung Kawi

This retreat will take place in Ubud, Bali. BeingSattvaa is in the village of Kenderan, a ten-minute drive from the bustling Ubud town-centre. It is set amidst the famed rice fields of Tegallalang, fringed by rice paddies on one side and rain forest on the other.

Ubud is a quaint and remarkable town in the middle of the island of Bali. For more than a century, it has been the island’s preeminent center for fine arts, dance, and music - it is truly the cultural and artistic capital of Bali.

This rambling country town, made up of several artisan villages, each dedicated to one particular art or craft, is located an hour’s drive north of the airport. The air is pungent, smelling of the earth, river, and forests, all of which can be found in plenty in Ubud. Ubud boasts some of Bali’s most stunning resorts and spas, and sophisticated restaurants serving the best of Asian and Western cuisine.

Elegant hotels, sprawling mansions, and quaint villas now stand on its outskirts, overlooking the most amazing views in Bali. Ubud is now a hub of literature, art, music, and dance. It draws people who add something; people who are actively involved in art, nature, wellness, anthropology, music, dance, architecture, environmentalism, and more. Its unique ecosystem and culture make it an ideal place to practice wellness, a perfect getaway, if you will.

You also canThe rooms have a great view and the bathrooms are super nice. So we can definitely recommend it, you will enjoy your stay 100%!"

"Most friendly and helpful staff ever! Great first impression, with the sounds of the jungle at night - made me feel like I was on an adventure, but at peace and at home right away. The staff couldn't have been more sweet, giving us a free shuttle service, facilitating a late check in, calling in the restaurant for us to keep our reservation and notify them that we'll be a little bit late. Everything about Beingsattvaa was exceptional, and I don't give praise lightly. It was clean, sophisticated, roomy with excellent service in the restaurant where we had free breakfast (which were bountiful) and occasionally lunch and dinners. Everything was easy, and one can relax and be taken care of while on a retreat. Food was beyond good and great value for money and service was attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. The morning yoga classes, with the morning sun shining through the jungle will amaze you. I could go on but suffice to say, me and my partner were very pleased with our stay, and although short and sweet this time, we hope to be back for a longer visit in the future."

"My wife and I spent seven nights at BeingSattvaa. It was our first trip to Bali and we started in Ubud. We had a "queens-room" (Room 101), which is just as described in the website with a beautiful outside bathroom."

"But enough of this. It was just an absolute perfect stay. Where to start?"

"The staff: couldn't have been better. They make you feel at home and take care of everything. Besides their happy appearance and made anything happen. Just as example: we rented out a scooter from the hotel and took a trip about 1h away from Ubud. Close to our destination the scooter had a flat tire. Luckily we arrived at our destination and gave the hotel a call. They immediately came to us - with a new scooter and took the broken down with them. "

"The other day we took a trekking tour from the hotel. It was lead by Kadek who is living in the village next to hotel. We took a nice walk through the rice fields which are just next to the hotel. From there on Kadek invited us to his home, showed us around, we met parts of his family and had a really great experience getting to know non touristically sides of Bali."

"Yoga: what a great start every second day. Even for beginners. And absolutely stunning place. In the mornings when the sun rises, it shines beautifully bright through the jungle into the yoga place. "

"Food: small menu, vegetarian, even strictly vegetarian (vegan), absolutely delicious, everything freshly made, even if you have special needs or allergies: they make everything happen. My wife and I like to tell the waiter, they should surprise us, if we're not sure, what to order. We got an absolute delicious dinner, even prepared as a surprise, packed in banana leafs. Just great."

"Spa: also very very good. Traditional massages in a beautiful surrounding. We also had massages in downtown; the massages were good, too, but the places are dirty and not very well taken care off."

"The Hotel itself: stunning surrounding in the jungle. Ubud is close but at the some time, it's far away. Ubud is a very crowded and hectic place. If you spend the day downtown, this retreat is the perfect place to relax. It is even a very good strategic start for a lot of tours on the island."

"It was exactly what we are looking for, calm, vegan, healthy, warm, nature, Eco friendly, sustained. Smoking isn't allowed on the whole territory, which we appreciated very much."

"Right now we went on with our journey and stay at hotel in the north of Bali, it is in the same price range as BeingSattvaa, and it is not as good as BeingSattvaa, by far. We are thinking about cutting this stay and go back to BeingSattvaa."

"We stayed at Being Sattvaa for four nights in September 2016 and did not want to leave. The grounds themselves are set in lush rainforest and have a tranquil vibe with the soothing sounds of water flowing from landscaped waterfalls, ornaments, and the infinity pool. The detail that has gone into the design of the entire place is breathtaking and everything you wish for is here, and if it isn't the friendly staff are more than happy to accommodate your needs. "

"The food is so fresh and very well prepared and presented. This is a vegetarian resort and when we told them we don't eat dairy or eggs either, they were more than happy to accommodate with vegan options, much to the delight of my partner. The meals are a mix of traditional Balinese and also Western cuisines."

"Our room was on the second floor at the back of the grounds overlooking their rice fields and vegetable gardens. The view from our deck was amazing. The rooms feature a king bed with netting, air con, huge bathroom with bath, separate shower and twin vanity area. In keeping with the tranquil environment there is no TV or fridge, but that doesn't concern us. There is, however, good Wi-Fi coverage around the entire grounds."

"The best thing about this resort are the staff. Wonderfully friendly and accommodating to your every need. We have never experienced anything quite like it and ended up becoming quite good friends with all of the staff there. From the free activities (yoga and rice field trekking) to the trips into town, nothing was a problem to organise. We were there for the Kuningan festivities (every 210 days the Balinese celebrate their ancestors spirits) and the staff organised for us to dress in their traditional attire and join them in celebrating. We went to the local villages and saw people honouring their family spirits at temples and even went to one of the girls' family homes to meet everyone from her grandmother right down to the new born babies. This was such a unique cultural experience that we will never forget."

"On our last night, Dewa, the manager organised a romantic dinner for my partner and I and decorated the floor around our table with flowers in love heart shapes and tea light candles and a sumptuous vegan dinner with dessert. I think my girlfriend thought I was going to propose to her!!! Sorry sweetheart, haha. Seriously though, this was an amazing touch and such a poignant way to end our stay at Being Sattvaa. "

"We will tell our families in Australia to visit here and hopefully be back again soon."

"Thank you to Dewa, Lia, Soni, Mona and Kadek and the others whose names I forget!"

"We landed in Bali, slightly dazed from a long couple of flights to get there from Chennai. Right from the pick up at the airport, my spirits too "picked up" - thanks to the cheerful faces that welcomed us from Being Sattvaa! "

"From then on, it just got better and better - beautiful country, beautiful people and the hotel - where truly we felt at home instantly! The staff is amazing - friendly, unobtrusive but ever willing to help. "

"Superb rooms, tastefully decorated with the huge open-air bathroom (yes it was completely private!) being the icing on the cake!"

"The staff brought me to tears though, one evening....it was a birthday for two of us and we had just come back from dinner at a restaurant....we walk into our respective rooms...to be greeted with 'pookolam' - floral decorations on the floor and our beds strewn with rose petals. Had barely stopped squeaking in excitement when I heard the flurry of many feet outside and then a knock. Opened the door to find the staff - every last beautiful soul there - with a cake in their hands and singing happy birthday! Well, yes, I did burst into tears - it was just so, so beautiful!"

"Renu and Subba, the owners, have created a resort of rare beauty and of even rarer character....thank you for giving us the holiday of a lifetime!"

"Dewa, Kadek, the very inspired chef, Wayan, Rina and every staff member there worked to make our stay truly unforgettable!"

"I've stayed in many 5 star hotels over the years but usually dont take the time to review even though they're really good. I guess none has ever struck me the way BeingSattvaa has - this has left such a deep mark, a memory that I'll carry with me for a long, long time. I'll echo everything POSITIVE that has been said thus far - paradise, peace, and absolute tranquility - and add magical yet very real - real food, real people, real joy! From the minute they pick you up - they actually came all the way to Uluwatu to pick me up instead of the airport, which was my original plan - to the complimentary "welcome massage" and "welcome milkshake/ice cream" and the daily complimentary afternoon teas and heavenly deserts and the complimentary yoga every day and the trekking and the rooms and the pool and the spa and and and and..........endless surprises, endless love, endless warmth!! If they think you're not feeling well they make you a moringa and maca shake that gives you an amazing buzz and will have you smiling in no time. If they think you're extra hungry that day, the portions magically grow. If they think you just want to relax and meditate, they'll leave you alone. If they think you're bored and need a good conversation, they'll open up with their own stories and just be silly with you. If you ask them for a special dish, they'll whip up a masterpiece. They dont just "work" here....they actually READ you and SERVE you with so much LOVE and HEART!! ...wow, simply, wow. I've never been to a hotel that's this tuned to its guests needs!! Did I mention the free rides to and from downtown? ...and the tour arrangements around Bali? ...and if you happen to be here at a time when there's a special retreat then they'll graciously ask you to join... now THAT was top notch material! Lifetime friendships from a 5 day experience!! I'm still in awe!!! ...so, long story short, just like the title says: it's a place where a hotel becomes HOME and the staff become FAMILY!! ...whether you're a solo traveler (which is what I was) or a couple or a family or a large group (which is what I gathered from the different guests I interacted with during my stay), they'll know exactly what you need and you'll leave here wanting to come back again, soon, very very soon! Subba (the big brother/owner), Dewa (the caring and detailed manager), Bagus (the chef extraordinaire) and his whole team, Rina and Kadek and Wendy and Mona and David and EVERYONE else at BeingSattvaa...... MATUR SUKSMA, my friends!!! MATUR SUKSMA!!!"

Bali is amazing and more so the places around Beingsattvaa and the staff make the best out of it for you. Recommend that you spend time in the property and attend the wellness programs and meditation...you can also personalise food and the Chef Bagus will create it for you. Just loved the open spaces and the rice terraces in and around the property...Telaga Waja shrine nearby is Blissful !!"

    "Thank you BeingSattvaa!"

"From the moment we stepped foot into the retreat it felt like we were at one with nature, and at an instant all negative energy was left at the door and peace and tranquility was surrounding us."

"The staff offer everything with a smile and there's nothing that they cannot help you with. All activities and tours can be organised through the front desk with ease. We went on a private 8hr tour of western Bali, enjoyed a couple of Balinese massages, hired motorbikes, and hiked up Mount Batur."

"The food at the restaurant is all very well presented and full of flavour, big compliments to the chefs."

"Our room was cleaned multiple times a day and had everything we needed. It was the perfect size and had a very nice view of the natural surroundings."

"The retreat is perfectly clean and there are plenty of staff always around to help with any questions. English is no problem for any of the staff as they all speak very well."

"Our 3 night stay here was unforgettable and we will definitely be back to share this experience with friends and family."

"We went for the 3 day "being me" retreat with an open mind and were pleasantly surprised. While this is not our usual sunny, beach, shopping, dining holiday which u nay need another holiday after , we left the resort with a very well rested body and soul. The sunrise yoga was a challenge during first day ( 6am is not my routine even for a morning person like me) but as we settle in under the guidance of Mr Subba, something magical was definitely happening. We meditate both under the stars, visited by firefly , did breathing exercise and joined by the zen like buffalo in the Padi field. A well timed " moo" was as if the big guy knew we are here for a purpose."

"The tibetian singing bowl healing session by Amanda has awaken something inside as I stop fighting the cronic backache and learn to be aware of the reason behind it. I dare not say that it is healed but it is heading towards the right path to recover."

"Despite being a vegetarian resort, we didn't find it challenging at all! Coming from a babi guling and bebek goreng person, trust me when I say chef Bagus has lived up to his name. "

"The service mentality everyone have in this resort is nothing short of amazing. You know the smile they portray is genuine. The attention to detail cannot be trained as it has to come within one's heart. "

"As we have been around the world a bit, I rarely write such a long and deserving review. But I can go on and on for the experience itself was, as the title puts, beyond words. "

"Come and experience it yourself "

"“Heaven on Earth! Best 9 nights of our 3 week trip to Bali.”"

"This place is absolute paradise. From the moment we arrived and Soni arranged dinner for us despite it being very late to the moment we left and the team organizing our boat transfers and luggage drop off! The premises are breathtaking, looking into the jungle on one side and ricefields on the other, unbelievable that it is only a 15 min drive from Ubud and 10 min drive to Tegalalang. One turn and you are in paradise. However, what made our stay unforgettable was the team..Windi, Soni, Mona, Rina and the crew made it an unforgettable time and they grew to our hearts. Whatever you require or wish for, the team will find a way to make it happen and go the extra mile. The food is excellent (chef made all our extra wishes come true, e.g. our coconut icecream obsession), fresh cut coconuts and tees are served whenever you wish for it, everything is fresh from the garden or market prepared with a lot of care and love. The spa is small but has everything you need, great products and a beautiful setting listening to the birds and sounds of the jungle. Rina and Windi arranged some of our trips and joined us which was great fun. We did an authentic purification ceremony under two waterfalls with Windi who explained the whole process to us with lots of love and care. The daily yoga watching the sun come up on the terrace was fantastic. Everything from the stay, restaurant, treatments and services has a fantastic value for money! The stay here was the absolute highlight of our trip, waking up at Sattvaa or coming back to the resort felt like home. We miss it a lot already and having to leave this place felt like leaving friends/family behind. Lots of love to the team from C&E."

"This resort has approx. 11 rooms. The service crew know everyone by name. The service standard is immaculate. They are so thoughtful and so attentive and you only need to give your instruction once and it is done for the rest of your stay. The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are very spacious. Some are open into nature and you soak in the huge bathtub looking at greenery & plants; so do expect frogs to greet you in the morning :)"

"The customers come for different purposes. The resort run different sorts of retreat programmes at different times of the year. Some come to spend time alone; some hope to seek healing from nature. Some honeymooners, but not quite suitable for family with teenagers."

"The kitchen serves only vegetarian food. But it is very delicious. They can cater to gluten free meal. Every dish is fabulous."

"It's luxury at affordable price. Strongly recommend."

"Our family visited in July and were blown away by everything about this place. This was a highlight of our trip, and an experience we will never forget!"

    "THE ROOM"

"We stayed in the Two Bedroom Pavilion which was the perfect setup for parents and two 16 year olds. The room was unbelievably spacious and immaculate. We also loved the style and attention to detail. As an added bonus, the pavilion overlooks the pristine jungle and is extremely private. "

    "THE RESORT"

"The facility is incredibly beautiful and well designed. High quality and precision is obvious, and every decision has been made with the guest's comfort in mind. It also has a very small and intimate feel, which was an amazing contrast to the bustle of town. I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the onsite spa (the Balinese massage was lovely) and yoga studio in particular! Even if sunrise yoga is not for you, it is a breathtaking place to exercise and soak in the amazing surroundings!"

    "THE STAFF"

"Although every facet of our stay at BeingSattvaa was incredible, the staff made our experience, and were without a doubt the best workers we have ever encountered in the hospitality industry. They were all extremely kind, gentle natured people who showed a genuine interest in getting to know our family. They always addressed us by name, and always went out of their way to make us as comfortable as possible (By the end of our 5 day stay they knew our breakfast order by heart! ). They were extremely helpful in booking hikes and bike tours for us, and Soni even took us on our very own private customized tours for the day! When one of us celebrated a birthday, the staff made the experience even more remarkable by baking a cake and creating a beautiful flower petal display in our room. The people at BeingSattvaa are truly truly amazing. WOW!!"

"This place is truly magical, and is a must-visit if you are in the Ubud area. We cannot say enough about BeingSattvaa!!"

"“A Zen Yoga Paradise inside the Island of Paradise”"

"Bali is paradise, Ubud is a paradise within this. Can it get better?"

"Yes, if you know about Being Sattvaa, a boutique wellness resort just outside Ubud. "

"If you don’t want to read too much more, here are the 5 reasons why this is a bliss-filled discovery. "

"1. Fresh wholesome vegetarian food, much of it from their own garden"

"2. A heavenly yoga pavilion, where the lessons are gentle, non-taxing and the ambience is open air, invigorating and relaxing "

"3. A to-die-for massage centre, set in nature, surrounded by a wall of green penetrated only by sunlight "

"4. Lovely choice of rooms and villas, each solidly built, beds with four poster luxury, each room with a heavenly verandah, and an outdoor bath "

"5. Top it off with some excellent personalised service from Dewa and his great team, who seem to know just how much to engage you "

"There are other things of course, but if you are looking to take that total chilled-out break, or attain that Zen-like calm you always wanted, just detoxify, or even commune with nature in a gentle way, this is the place for you. "

"As the name suggests, Being Sattvaa is about your being and Sattvic living (in yoga, this is the highest purest form of living). So they don’t serve any meat here. But you’ll never notice it, because the vegetarian options are so tasty and fresh. The fruit platter in the morning, always great in Bali, reaches higher levels here at Being Sattvaa."

"The food presentation is just divine, with each vegetarian dish looking like it came from a totally high end restaurant in the best cities of the world. And the staff take a lot of care to put small decorations and messages on the plates."

"The rooms come in different sizes, but each is large and has its own verandah and outdoor bathing area. There are some larger villas as well, with one authentic Indonesian wood-house. Each is reached by verdant paths. In fact, verdant greenery and the gentle sounds of water are the two things that are ever-present at Being Sattvaa. Not to mention the little birds having their baths in front of your eyes at the pool, or the sunshine streaming through in different beautiful ways every morning. "

"This was so relaxing that in 3 days, I never set foot outside their compound. "

"Strongly recommended for those looking to chill, detoxify, stretch, attain unity of mind body and soul, or other such heavenly pursuits."

"We recently spent two nights at Being Sattvaa, and definitely wished it could have been longer! From the moment we checked in until the time we departed, we were well cared for at every turn by Dewa (the hotel manager) and his excellent staff."

"Our room was lovely, with a large desk, comfortable bed, and private patio. Our outdoor bathroom included two sinks, toilet, shower and carved bathtub large enough to lie down in, all surrounded by a high wall and beautiful garden plants. Although the resort is located in the jungle outside Ubud, there were no bugs to speak of. Perhaps that's partly due to all the frogs living in the water lily pond between the front desk and the dining room. You might not realize they're there during the day, but at night it's impossible to miss all the peeps, croaks, trills and other frog sounds as they sing to each other until dawn."

"We packed lots of activities into our two-day stay, including morning yoga class, a couples Balinese massage, a unique water purification ceremony, a (mostly downhill) bicycle tour, and an early morning ascent of Mount Batur to watch the sunrise. The Being Sattvaa staff always made sure that we were in the right place at the right time, and had the things we needed, like sarongs to enter the water temple."

"The menu at Being Sattvaa is completely vegetarian, and everything we tried was delicious. They serve Indonesian staples like Nasi Goreng as well as more Western dishes like Pizza Margherita and Pasta with Pesto sauce. The fruit drinks and smoothies are not to be missed! While there are supposed to be designated times for meals, the staff always accommodated our schedule, as well as our preferred dining venue: either on the patio outside our room or in the indoor/outdoor dining room overlooking the swimming pool and the jungle."

"All in all, our stay at Being Sattvaa was a wonderful experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone who plans to be in the Ubud, Bali area!"

"It was just recently I visited this delightful little hotel. Peaceful gem hidden a way from Ubud centre. I have a health restrictive diet and the chef and staff were so very kind to assist with my dietary needs. I was hesitant with the outdoor bathroom but the very accommodating manager helped us with another room - no fuss at all and we were delighted with the room we received. We kept our valuables in the safe(which the provided without costs) and even at one point forgot one day to put away jewelry and it was absolutely safe. Our room attendant turned our beds down and kept a light on so when we returned to our room in the late evening there was nothing to worry about."

"We can say we were so fortunate to meet such honest, kind and compassionate personnel. I hope they will be there when we return next year."

"Truly a little peaceful home away from home."
