Difficult life experiences can sometimes disrupt our body and our mind’s natural flow and inner harmony, bringing forth a feeling of loss or fragmentation from ourselves. It can feel as if we’ve lost control of our minds and our lives. We can experience reduced performance and motivation, fear and negativity, sleep deprivation, exhaustion and dissociation, self-sabotaging or self-imposed mental and emotional barriers. The body and mind can literally lock down, hindering our decisions and ability to move forward, follow our dreams and live life the way we are meant to. A sanctuary of serenity for self-reflection and deep emotional healing, Barefoot Bohemia is located in the quieter north side of the beautiful tropical paradise island Gili Trawangan. A fusion of Bohemian and Javanese “joglo" styles, their eco bungalows with luxurious open-air en-suite bathroom offer a naturally rustic and bohemian charm.

Fashioned from restored boat wood, bamboo, palm fronds, and natural stone, they are surrounded by a breathtaking palm tree jungle, enhancing your healing connection with the environment. The eco-bungalows offer intimacy and privacy being elevated and cocooned amidst the trees. The rooms are fan cooled and offer hot water and Wi-Fi throughout.

The gardens and private pool area offer luscious hammock or day bed lounging amidst tropical banana palms, birds of paradise, and the soothing sounds of nature. Boho Chic Retreats caters for a maximum of four students, keeping retreats personal and intimate.

Dinner onsite is available by pre-ordering and they have an onsite open-air kitchen with full cooking facilities and a large open-air dining shala available for personal use should you just wish to cozy up for the day or evening and prepare your own comfort food of choice. There are a number of delivery services available too for ultimate relaxation and wind down time.


Mind and Movement Medicine Yoga is more than just asana practice. It's a transcendental method of hypnotic and sensory-awakening self-exploration through fluid and spiral yoga movement, expressive vocal, emotional, and breath freedom technique.

A fully immersive incorporation of therapeutic yoga, dance, and somatic experiencing, the retreats will re-establish a sense of balance, friendship, and therefore safety within yourself through developing an understanding of your physical symptoms as mentioned above, as being your body’s way of communicating to you what it needs.

With the added elements of sound vibration alongside transformational lifestyle guidance, this system of healing will propel you towards creating the life you yearn for, simply by unearthing you and your spirit once again.

Bohemia is a free-spirited state of mind and bohemian way of living that you will experience for yourself when you join one of our retreats on the beautiful Gili Islands in Indonesia. As part of your retreat program, you’ll have the option to swim with turtles, horse-ride along the beach at sunset or bathe and swim with elephants. You will reconnect deeply with nature and yourself in this eco-sanctuary and will leave empowered with the tools and ability to enable your self-healing process to begin.

Meet the instructor

With a free-spirited childhood spent in Africa, Cyprus and the UK and originally trained as a dancer, Carolina is a Yoga Instructor, Reiki-Vibrational Energy Therapist and Lifestyle Influencer. She has designed and hosted yoga retreats, training, workshops and treatments around the world before finding her feet in the beautiful Gili Islands.

Her ethos is about "meeting yourself on your mat" as a means to truly self-heal and create the life you are meant to be living. As a linguist, (fluent in English, French, and Spanish) she believes that our physical symptoms are our body’s way of communicating with us and that true self-healing is all about exploring our bodies through movement and sound as a means to understanding that language.

By opening up these communication lines and fusing together the power and intelligence of nature, your mind, and your body, you can bring yourself back to life again.

Known as Barefoot Bohemia, she has recently developed her own Mind and Movement Medicine Method that deals specifically with chronic stress, anxiety, trauma, panic attacks and PTSD Recovery owing to a motorbike accident she suffered in 2016.

Her teaching stems from her personal self-healing journey and passionately opens her student's eyes to their own intrinsic energy medicine. By accessing that energy and giving it the voice & freedom it deserves, she inspires and aids people from all over the world to transcend immobility and find movement in every aspect of their lives. She encourages her students to be free, open, trusting, laughter-loving, strong and fearless through her classes, inspiring meditations, lifestyle coaching, and workshops.



Retreat location

Join this retreat in the beautiful Gili Islands, just off Bali and Lombok, and immerse yourself in Bohemia. The Gili Islands are unique in the way that there are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island so transport is via foot, bicycle or horse-drawn cart.

There are also a number of horse riding stables that offer lessons for the lesser experienced as well as those wanting to gallop their way through the surf to Sunset Beach of an evening. Being Indonesia, the island is Muslim with a call to prayer being heard five times a day. It normally lasts around 10 - 15 minutes and just further enhances your immersion into this warm ethnic community.

The venue is located just a short 10-minute walk or bike ride away from Turtle Beach, where swimming with turtles in their natural habitat is a daily treat for the senses. You will also find plentiful shops selling local handicrafts alongside a multitude of beachfront cafes and restaurants, all just a short walk or cycle ride away.

Gili Trawangan being the largest of the three-island archipelago is just a short boat ride away from neighboring Gili Air and Gili Meno for any island hoppers. With picture-perfect white sand and turquoise waters, peace, and zero pollution, this island and Barefoot Bohemia retreats will help all life’s troubles melt away, re-introducing you to you, your capabilities, and your potential to take back hold of the reins and steer your life the way you want it to go.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

The closest airports are Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali and Lombok International Airport (LOP) in Lombok. From Bali, you will need to make your way via taxi or shuttle bus to Padang Bai harbor (around 1.5 hours from the airport). Boats over to the Gili Islands run around three times a day starting from 9:00 a.m. and take just under 2 hours.

From Lombok, you will need to make your way to Bangsal Harbour (around 1.5 hours from the airport). From Bangsal, local commuter boats leave regularly throughout the day and take around 30 minutes to Gili Trawangan, with the last boat leaving around 5:00 p.m. However you decide to make your way, you will be met off the boat by your very own personal horse-drawn cart and be brought to Barefoot Bohemia Sanctuary where Boho Chic Retreats will be waiting to welcome you.
