Expert tip: This is one of the most popular yoga retreats offered in India.
Bamboo Yoga Retreat was voted one of the top 10 yoga retreat centres in India by Conde Naste Traveller Magazine and is located at the southern end of Polem Beach in Canacona, South Goa. At Bamboo Yoga Retreat, you can create your own itinerary. So whether you want to completely immerse yourself in yoga practice, take some time out for sightseeing, or just have some lazy days on the beach, our versatile yoga holidays are the perfect option.
All the boutique beach accommodation at Bamboo Yoga is designed to blend beautifully with the breathtaking natural surroundings. Built using local organic materials, they are simply stylish, comfortable, private, and eco-friendly. Located just steps from the beach, the cabanas and huts are designed to help you reconnect with nature. Whether dolphin-spotting or watching the white-bellied sea eagles soar overhead from the hammock on your balcony, or falling asleep to the sound of the waves, the normal stresses of life melt away and you will feel open to a more profound yoga practice.
The brand-new elegantly designed glass-fronted cabanas have beautiful natural panoramic views and feature large bedrooms with roomy open-roofed ensuite bathrooms, A/C and ceiling fans, and spacious, comfortable balconies with hammocks and seating to relax on. You can choose between an Ocean Sunset Cabana, located on the front line of the beach with sea and sunset views; a Coco Garden Cabana, set a little bit further back from the beach in our palm and coconut garden; or a Sunrise Ricefield Cabana, set towards the back of the retreat with views across the picturesque surrounding countryside and paddy fields.
Or you can choose one of our Seascape Huts, which are slightly smaller and located on the second line of the beachfront with a partial view of the ocean.
All our accommodation features A/C and ceiling fans and has one large double or two single (twin) beds with comfortable European-style mattresses, good linens, and mosquito netting. Regular housekeeping is available, with fresh linens on request, although we ask guests to bring their own towels for the beach. The cabanas and huts can be locked when you go out, and free Wi-Fi is available in the lounge if you need to stay connected.
Your yoga experience will be flexible, with flowing dynamic classes in the morning and more restorative sunset sessions later in the day. With a changing schedule of different disciplines, from Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow to Hatha, Sivananda, Iyengar, and Yin, you have the chance to find the yoga styles that work for you. All classes combine yoga poses with breathwork and meditation. The established resident yoga teachers adapt their classes to the individual needs of each student so that sessions accommodate everyone, from absolute beginners to more advanced practitioners.
Daily yoga classes are held in our beach-facing Sunset, Shakti, and Shiva Shalas. With nothing between you and the Arabian Sea, it is the ultimate spot to salute the sun, while the sea breeze keeps you comfortable even in tropical temperatures.
People from all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome—from yoga devotees to those looking to regenerate from a stressful life, or if you simply want a healthy holiday combining classes and treatments with getting a tan! And whether gathering as a group or traveling solo, Bamboo Yoga Retreat creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere so that everyone feels at home, with group dinner nights under the stars.

Bamboo Yoga Retreat is located at the far southern end of beautiful Polem Beach in Canacona, South Goa. Polem Beach is Goa’s southernmost beach, a serene and secluded 700-meter stretch of pristine golden sand fringed with coconut palms and native casuarina trees and flanked at the northern and southern ends by rocky hillocks, offering peace and tranquility amidst a stunningly beautiful natural setting that is reminiscent of how Goa was 50 years ago before the tourists arrived. The beach is perfect for quiet sunbathing and swimming, and there is even access by boat and by foot across the rocks to other hideaway coves and beaches.
Goa is India's smallest—and some would say most friendly—state, boasting some of the best beaches in Asia. However, it's not just sand, sea, and sunsets. Goa's mix of Indian and Portuguese heritage means you will find white churches poking out from the coconut palms alongside Hindu temples. It is a very safe place for guests to arrive alone and go out at night.
While some of north Goa has suffered from overdevelopment, the far south is still relatively unspoiled, with its lush Western Ghat mountain range, beautiful backwaters, and long golden beaches. It is against this peaceful and scenic tropical backdrop that Bamboo runs its yoga holidays and retreats.
There are very few tourists at Polem Beach, even in the peak tourist season, so it remains quiet and secluded, making it a very good place for a relaxing holiday away from it all. Local town Chaudi, a 30-minute drive away, has banks and ATMs, a supermarket, well-stocked chemists, and a colourful Saturday fruit and vegetable market. The busier beach resorts of Palolem and Patnem, with their wider mix of cafes, restaurants and bars, money exchange and travel agents, and shops selling clothing and souvenirs alongside everyday essentials such as toiletries, are also only a 30-minute taxi or rickshaw ride away.
Like every part of Bamboo Yoga Retreat's ethos, the food is all about flexibility and balance. At Bamboo Yoga Retreat, the restaurant focuses on healthy, wholesome, and nutritious cuisine, organic and locally sourced wherever possible, prepared and cooked with love by a team of Nepalese chefs.
To start your day, we prepare a freshly squeezed juice of the day, which could be watermelon and ginger, or pineapple, lemon, and mint, to cleanse your body and give you an energy boost for your sun salutations. There is also a big fresh tropical fruit salad every morning.
A healthy buffet brunch is served after the morning yoga session, with homemade yogurt, local breads, eggs, and muesli, along with some Indian-inspired vegetable dishes and salads for those who've built up an appetite with their exertions. And then time to relax and watch the waves from our beach lounge with a herbal tea or Indian chai.
A selection of snacks, salads, super juices, and smoothies are available all day at the restaurant, along with daily specials based around seasonal produce from the local market. Bamboo Yoga Retreat serves a selection of teas and locally baked cookies in the afternoon before your yoga session to give you an energy boost.
For dinner, a delicious Indian and Asian fresh vegetarian buffet is served daily with lots of fresh salads, all of it lovingly prepared to help your body's restoration and growth, but most of all to taste great!
Communal tables or lovely lounges await you to enjoy your cuisine for yoga holidays. They also put a table on the beach under the stars for special occasions.
Bamboo Yoga Retreat operates a no single-use plastic policy, and therefore guests are asked to bring their own flasks or water bottles or to purchase these from their store. They also offer refillable mineral water onsite and use filtered water in the kitchen.
If you have special dietary requirements or do not prefer spicy food, please let Bamboo Yoga Retreat know prior to arrival. The chefs are skilled and will try to accommodate all.
If you fancy a day off the mat or have some time after your yoga retreat, there are some wonderful places to visit in Goa. From boat trips to spot dolphins and kayaking to secret coves, to exploring the coastline by scooter. Just a short drive up the coast are the neighbouring unspoiled beaches of Galjibag, famed as a nesting ground for Olive Ridley turtles, and Talpona, or check out the busier beach resorts of Patnem and Palolem, which are just an easy 30-minute drive up the coast.
Nature lovers will enjoy Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the world's biodiversity hotspots just a few kilometers south of Patnem. Whether or not you catch a glimpse of an elusive leopard or a troop of monkeys, the mountainous jungle scenery is spectacular.
If you're an architecture buff, take a trip to the colonial Latin quarter in Panjim, Goa's new capital, and to Old Goa, the historic city of the Portuguese eastern empire. The Lunch Club by KOKOindia offers a unique cultural experience beyond the beach, with a private tour of one of Goa's grand mansions, and authentic Indo-Portuguese lunch in a restored Palacio.
Shoppers and souvenir seekers will love the weekly flea and night markets in north Goa, where you can find everything from silk scarves and silver jewelry to sandals, sarongs, and spices. Remember to haggle - it's all part of the experience!
India has a rich history of the holistic approach to wellness, with ancient Ayurvedic practices designed to provide both physical and mental balance. Translating literally as the science of life, this five-thousand-year-old system of health care aims to bring harmony within yourself and with nature.
Bamboo Yoga Retreat treatments are guided by the Ayurvedic ethos of well-being within and without, and will complement your yoga practice. They offer an extensive menu of healing therapies from a beautiful massage hut just meters from the ocean.
