Our Bamboo beach bungalows are designed to blend beautifully with the breathtaking natural surroundings. Built on the fine white sand every season after the monsoon rains, using local organic materials, they are simply stylish, comfortable, private, and eco-friendly.

Located directly behind the Ocean Shala and beachfront lounge, and just steps from Patnem beach, our boutique bungalows are designed to help you reconnect with nature. Whether watching the eagles soar overhead from the hammock on your balcony, or falling asleep to the sound of the waves, the normal stresses of life melt away and you will feel open to a more profound yoga practice.

Each bungalow at Bamboo Yoga Retreat has one double or two single beds with comfortable European style mattresses, good linens, and mosquito netting, set in a spacious airy room with plenty of room to hang your clothes and store your belongings. Constructed to make use of the natural ventilation from the cooling sea breeze, they also have ceiling fans for more tropical times of year. Attached bathrooms with western style toilets are open to the sky for the magical experience of showering under the stars.

All of our bungalows have beautiful natural panoramas views / sea view, and you can choose between a beachfront sunset bungalow, an ocean mountain bungalow, or an ocean temple bungalow, which is quieter at night with its peaceful garden setting. You can book a private room, share with a friend, or we can pair you with a lovely person of the same gender. Teachers will match yogis for room sharing on retreats.

Regular housekeeping is available, with fresh linens on request, although we ask guests to bring their own towels for the beach. The bungalows can be locked when you go out, and free Wi-Fi is available if you need to stay connected. We want you to feel safe, relaxed and in harmony with nature to get the most out of your yoga holiday or yoga retreat at Bamboo Yoga Retreat in Goa.

Daily yoga classes are held in our Ocean Shala right on Patnem beach. With nothing between you and the Arabian ocean, it is the ultimate spot to salute the sun, whilst the sea breeze keeps you comfortable even in tropical temperatures. We also hold daily sessions in our Temple Shala, built on an ancient Hindu site. With a deck overlooking the sacred mountain at the end of Patnem beach, its perfect for a more quiet spiritual practice and meditation.

People from all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome - from yoga devotees to those looking to regenerate from a stressful life, or if you simply want a healthy holiday combining classes and treatments with getting a tan! And whether gathering as a group or travelling solo, we create a warm welcoming atmosphere so that everyone feels at home, with group dinners and movie nights under the stars.

We are located right on the beach of Patnem, a beautiful white sandy beach in South Goa.

Goa is Indias smallest - and some would say most friendly - state, boasting some of the best beaches in Asia. However, its not just sand, sea, and sunsets. Goas mix of Indian and Portuguese heritage means you will find white churches poking out from the coconut palms alongside Hindu temples. It is a very safe place for guests to arrive alone and go out at night.

Whilst some of north Goa has suffered from over-development, the far south is still unspoilt, with its lush mountain range, beautiful backwaters, and long golden beaches. It is against this peaceful tropical backdrop that Bamboo runs its yoga holidays and retreats.

You will find us at the far southern end of Patnem beach, in the Canacona state of south Goa. We are close to acclaimed Agonda beach and one beach down from famous Palolem, with its wide selection of souvenir stalls, restaurants and nightlife.

Local town Chaudi, a five-minute drive away, has banks and ATMs, a supermarket, well-stocked chemists, and a colorful Saturday fruit and veg market. Patnem high street has a useful mix of internet cafes, money exchange and travel agents, and shops selling clothing and souvenirs alongside everyday essential such as toiletries.

Whilst social life in Patnem mostly consists of some sunset cocktails at one of the beach shacks, with occasional live music nights, there are regular headphone parties in Palolem, and a weekly night with international DJs at Leopard Valley - an incredible outdoor club in the jungle on the way to Agonda beach.

Our food, like every part of our yoga center, is all about flexibility and balance. It is wholesome and nutritious, cooked with love and without compromising on flavor. At Bamboo Yoga Retreat, our restaurant focuses on healthy locally sourced food, organic wherever possible and international cooking by our team of highly trained passionate chefs.

To start your day, we prepare a freshly squeezed juice of the day, which could be watermelon and ginger, or pineapple lemon and mint, to cleanse your body and give you an energy boost for your sun salutations. There is also a big fresh tropical fruit salad every morning.

A big brunch is served after the morning yoga session, homemade yoghurt, local breads, eggs and muesli, with some Indian inspired vegetable dishes and salads for those whove built up an appetite with their exertions. And then time to relax and watch the waves from our beach lounge with a herbal tea or Indian chai.

A selection of snacks, salads, super juices, and smoothies are available all day at our restaurant, along with daily specials based around seasonal produce from the local market.

We serve a selection of teas and locally baked cookies in the afternoon before your yoga session to give you an energy boost.

For dinner our menu changes daily, and includes delicious Indian and Asian vegetarian dishes, salads, fresh sustainable fish and seafood is also possible to order on the day. All of it is lovingly prepared to help your bodys restoration and growth, but most of all to taste great! Dinner can be ordered a la carte, or there is a big buffet in the restaurant if you are on retreat.

Special meals around a communal table will be held every week for yoga holidays, and we also put table on the beach under the stars for special occasions.

Yoga retreats are full-board so that the menu can work with your program, whether supporting weight loss, detoxing the body, or focusing on raw food.

We offer refillable mineral water to eliminate plastic bottle waste, and use filtered water in our kitchen.

With our team that is made up of Nepalese chefs and Heidi who is a nutritional advisor, you will not be disappointed the food is delicious. We are famous for our food.

    The following meals are included:

    • Brunch

The following dietary requirements are served and/or catered for:

    • Raw food
    • Regular (typically includes meat and fish)
    • Seafood
    • Vegan
    • Vegetarian
    • Whole food

If you fancy a day off the mat, of have some time after your yoga retreat, there are some wonderful places to visit in Goa. From boat trips to spot dolphins and kayaking to secret coves, to exploring the coastline by scooter. Drive through picturesque fishing villages to the turtle-nesting beach of Galjibag, or seek out the freshwater lagoon at Cola beach and the spectacular sea views from Cabo de Rama Fort.

Nature lovers will enjoy Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the worlds biodiversity hotspots just a few kilometers south of Patnem. Whether or not you catch a glimpse of an elusive leopard or a troop of monkeys, the mountainous jungle scenery is spectacular.

If youre an architecture buff, take a trip to the colonial Latin quarter in Panjim, Goas new capital, and to Old Goa, the historic city of the Portuguese eastern empire. The Lunch Club by KOKOindia offers a unique cultural experience beyond the beach, with a private tour of one of Goas grand mansions, and an authentic Indo-Portuguese lunch in a restored Palacio.

Shoppers and souvenir seekers will love the weekly flea and night markets in north Goa, where you can find everything from silk scarves and silver jewelry to sandals, sarongs, and spices. Remember to haggle - its all part of the experience!

"I loved every minute of my stay at Bamboo. The staff made you feel at home from the moment you arrived, the bungalows were clean and very comfortable and the meals were fresh and delicious. The yoga teaching was of a high quality, and the rotation of teachers meant that there were slightly different styles and perspectives thrown in to each class. I was travelling alone and I found it a great atmosphere for meeting people and making friends, and I would highly recommend this retreat! "

"Magical place! Bamboo Yoga Retreat is just outstanding! Minimalism, peaceful and great ambiance. The staff people are lovely, funny, kind and devoted. The food is amazingly excellent with good services. Each morning, I was delighted with my detox juice and Turmeric Wellness shot. The yoga practices was just perfect with devoted world class teachers; I loved Tieri as she was so passionate about yoga and make's you feel so peaceful. Her Bollywood dance session was greatly appreciated too! Charming bamboo hut with outdoor bathroom, so coooool! I stayed there for 12 days on Christmas and New Year's eve holiday and my stay was one of the most inspiring and relaxing holiday ever; great place in a beautiful environment. The dinner on the beach organized by the staff for New Year's eve 2017 was unforgettable! On my last morning yoga session, we had many dolphins jumping around in the see just in front of of us... priceless! I look forward to come back again because I miss that place already... the people, the lounge, the food and mostly, yoga and meditation time at the beautiful sunset on the ocean! I warmly recommend Bamboo Yoga Retreat for everyone who is seeking a memorable experience, the simple Indian way!"

"Bamboo Yoga Retreat was a breath of fresh air. I can't imagine a better place to unwind, reconnect, and practice some self love. The people, the view, the beach, the classes and the quaint little bungalows with the open roof bathrooms, make this retreat a real life oasis. Though the birds and the dogs can be noisy, those sounds could not disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that they've worked hard to create. And the food was phenomenal! Curries, fresh salad, fruit, home-made tea...really, really great. No matter where you are in your journey of yoga, I would highly recommend you find time to visit Bamboo Yoga Retreat. Namaste."

The place is stunning, teachers are great, the food fantastic and the staff both kind and helpful - the only regret is that I did only book 4 days!"

"We stayed here for 3 weeks during our Yoga Teacher Training program. The facility is located on the nice quiet end of Patnem Beach. The property boasts 2 main Yoga Shalas; one of which overlooks the beach & ocean which was perfect to hear the water during meditation and Savasana! The bamboo huts are simple and comfortable each with it's own bathroom and mosquito nets, although mossies weren't really a problem with the cool ocean breezes. There is an overall peaceful, chill vibe to the place, especially in the comfortable chill-out lounge loaded with bright fluffy pillows. Bamboo is only open to residents making it a very safe place as well, since there are no "outsiders" coming and going. The staff goes above & beyond to ensure everyone is taken care of. Since we were doing a teacher training program we had additional and specific unique requests, all of which were accommodated with smiles and ease. The staff is super happy! You can tell the owner and the staff have a great relationship which contributes to the overall feel of the place. The Shalas were well equipped with plenty of bolsters, blocks, straps and mats. The food was fresh and delicious full of colorful salads & veggies, fresh fruit, flavorful curries and homemade juices and smoothies. The menu was perfect! The staff have all been here for several years. It is very clear they know what they are doing. A very reputable place to hold a training. I know many other teachers that bring their retreats here. Can't wait to return one day! "

The huts are adorable! The food! Ok maybe you shouldn't make the food so DELICIOUS! I had way too many helpings. Yum. The yoga shalas are so amazingly positioned. So serene. I couldn't quite believe I was doing yoga facing the setting sun. Very spiritual. I will be recommending this awesome place to my friends. Thank you once again!"

"A little bit of yoga in paradise! I'd been thinking of going to a yoga retreat for sometime and i finally got a chance to do so in March 2016. I looked through tens of different yoga retreats and i am so happy I decided on Bamboo yoga retreat. Whilst i love my yoga, I also wanted some sort of holiday as well so the accommodation was very important. I got a mountain hut and all huts are on the beach which is amazing, you can hear the ocean from all of them. The huts are very basic and initially i wasn't sure if i am going to fit in, but in a day i was already feeling right at home - it felt like disconnecting from all the material parts of life and enjoying the simple pleasures - how many people get to hear the ocean at night and spend all day on what almost feels like a private beach! The only downside was that whilst the bathrooms are cleaned everyday, the bedroom isn't and its difficult to do the bed up because the room is a little small.I would have liked that the bed sheets were changed and the bed made every couple of days even if there was an extra cost to it. (That's my reason for a 9 otherwise there was no other fault). There was a yoga teacher training going on, a Danish retreat and then several of us just on a yoga holiday (like me) , it was amazing to meet so many fantastic people! It was holy (Indian festival of color) that week as well and some of us even went out and partied a little one night! The staff at the retreat was brilliant! And finally, the yoga. wow, it was amazing! The teachers are world class , I learnt so much in a week that i have adopted into my practice which has been growing from strength to strength. The variety of yoga was also phenomenal - we had Vinyasa flows, Ashtanga, Hatha, restorative, yoga workshops, slow dance yoga and even a 90 min blindfolded class. It really teaches you to appreciate yoga and see that whatever you practice will deliver amazing benefits! All in all, a superb retreat and i am probably going to add a yoga retreat as a once a year plan in my calendar! Thank you to the entire team at Bamboo!"

"This was my first time on a yoga retreat, first time in India and first time in Goa. Bamboo yoga were amazing before the holiday as I emailed them lots of questions and different variations of the holiday I was looking for. They were so accommodating and this made me feel quite comfortable. On arrival, I fell in love with my mountain view hut, out door shower, the sounds of the waves - the crows not so much but it definitely added to the experience. The other guests staying at Bamboo were just so friendly and I can not say enough how amazing the team are - Susanne, Dil and everyone else. They paid special attention to little things that enhanced my experience. The food was great with brunch being an absolute favorite time of the day for me.The yoga was great - particularly loved the classes with Jenn and Radhika. I loved that the instructors had variations for all poses, taught at a pace that was doable and also encouraging. I also loved that by luck we were a mixed group - obvious yogis and lots of us trying it out for the first time. Nothing like doing yoga facing the ocean! I do think the yoga mats could be cleaner.Overall it was an amazing experience and I'd certainly recommend it and also go back!"

The food was delicious, great accommodation and all the staff at Bamboo Yoga retreat couldnt have done enough to ensure everyone was happy. It was so nice to be greeted each morning by Nii and Dills happy faces. By the time I left Bamboo Yoga Retreat I felt like I was among family and it was sad to say goodbye to everyone from all the staff to my fellow yogis. If youre looking for a yoga holiday, Bamboo Yoga Retreat definitely has my number one vote I would love to go back tomorrow."

"I can't rate Bamboo highly enough. All of the staff are very friendly, and make you feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. The yoga sessions are great, with more energetic ones in the morning, and more gentle in the afternoons. If you want to give your body a rest once in a while, it's fine to miss a class or two. The classes are varied, from partner yoga, through Ashtanga and Hatha to restorative. Although the classes are for mixed abilities, all of the teachers give alternatives, so that the students are all able to practice to their own abilities.Bamboo's location at the end of sleepy Patnem Beach is idyllic. Everyone stays in beach huts made of natural building materials, with views either over the ocean, or a garden. After the morning's yoga, and a fantastic vegetarian brunch of salads, curries, Indian breads, rice and fruit, you can relax in the shaded chill-out areas or on the beach (the retreat has its own private sun loungers), swim in the ocean, doze in the hammock on the porch of your beach hut, or wander further afield to explore the neighbouring beaches, or visit local markets. The afternoon sessions end just as the sun starts to set over the ocean, so you can watch the sun go down before enjoying an evening meal at the retreat, or in one of the friendly restaurants along the beach.By the end of your stay, time seems to have slowed down completely, and you feel very relaxed and ready to enjoy what ever you choose to do next.I'll certainly be going back there sometime!"

The staff is wonderful, authentic and very accommodating. I love the basic and clean huts with the bathroom where you can take a shower and look at the sky. The whole vibe of Bamboo is relaxed, warm, really friendly staff and fellow travelers and yoga calm. The food is absolutely wonderful, not to mention the coconut cookies......you will fall asleep every night listening to the waves, the crows, the dogs and feel so very blessed to have the opportunity to be at a place like this, on a beach like this."

"I would say that this is one of the most well-run places I've stayed- while still feeling completely laid back, warm, and inviting. "

"-Accomodation: This was the nicest bamboo hut I've stayed in. They thought of everything. The bed was made up beautifully with nice new mosquito netting. Very clean, safe in room, perfect storage for your things. Outdoor bathroom was a treat- water heated by the sun, private but with a view of the sky. Can't beat it. Comfy bright hammock on the porch and a pan of water for rinsing you feet -- which always seemed to be fresh and cool. They even provide a sarong for the beach. "

"-YOGA: there are multiple "studio". Ours had a lovely view of the sunset. "

"-MASSAGE: I had the best massages by Binni. The first was a jet lag massage. Highly recommend it and plan to relax on one of the many plush loungers on the beach for the rest of the afternoon. While enjoying a variety of refreshing and rejuvenating juice concoctions from the kitchen. "

"- Tea, juice, and food were all delicious. and full of flavor and very fresh. Prepared by the mostly Nepalese staff, so you get a taste of Nepal as well. Lots of fresh fruit as well. Staff is so accommodating to specific dietary needs."

"-The staff! They are really accommodating to ANY and ALL of your needs. I'm going to spell names wrong here, but Nee is amazingly helpful and friendly. He'll help set up any side trips you are interested in, answer questions, set up cab drivers for you. He's just awesome. Dill was also incredibly obliging (and seriously funny). Really, all of the staff were awesome. Suzanne, the director, is an all around delightful person. She was very supportive when my travel plans were messed up do to a mistake I made with my visa. Krisztina was also super accommodating and just a really wonderful person. Everyone there was somehow really chill and laid back while being on top of every detail. "

"- So you know what to expect: I feel obliged to mention this, although it doesn't have anything to do with Bamboo itself- The sound of the crows provides a good opportunity to practice not letting sounds bother you. They are, apparently, a part of India and NOT exclusive to here, or Patnem Beach."

"-The huge, comfy lounge beds are perfect for relaxing and napping and just hanging out looking at the ocean. "

"I had a lovely stay at Bamboo with my family. The vibe was serene and relaxing, with two sessions of yoga available a day, led primarily by the traveling yogi Jenn who is fab. I struggled with the 30 minutes of meditation each morning at the start of the yoga class, as I don't usually practice meditation, and never just after waking up, but that's personal preference."

"The yoga mats. TAKE YOUR OWN. I really wish I had taken mine as the mats were dirty and in bad condition. It would have been nice to have been given a mat at the start of the week (used and cleaned or new) to use for the duration of the stay."

"The huts you stay in are basic but this is refreshing, plus you can hear the sea from your bed and shower under the stars (the toilet is also Western). There are regular power cuts, usually in the evening, so I would suggest taking a torch with you. "

"The staff are wonderful! Welcoming, friendly and charming (especially Dilou!) They make you feel right at home very quickly. "

"The food is delicious! Flavorsome but too spicy which was great for me as I can't handle spice very well! I'm sure you could request extra spice if you like it though."

"Patnem beach is beautiful. I went for barefoot runs up and down in in the evenings, and on a Wednesday there is a 5km run organized from Namaste restaurant about half way along the beach that anyone can get involved with. It starts at 6pm just before sunset and anyone can go run (it's bit like the UK Park run)."

"Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend Bamboo to anyone visiting Goa."

"I was incredibly nervous about traveling alone for the first time but when I arrived at Bamboo I knew I had made the right decision to do it. My hut was lovely complete with mosquito net, hanging wardrobe and very pleasant outdoor shower. The yoga classes were astutely taught with a range of capabilities being accounted for - Jenn in particular was an incredible teacher and very supportive character - and the food provided in the cost of the stay was among the best I had in India. (The cookies at afternoon tea were a particular treat!) The spirit of the retreat is inclusive with many people traveling alone and sharing stories over brunch and dinner, although you can easily exist anonymously if you'd rather. There's no pressure to attend every class and there's plenty of information provided about things to do in the local area if you'd rather take a day off from the mat. I would recommend the Spice Farm and the waterfall - I had a beautiful day at a very low cost by hiring a taxi through the hotel. I wholeheartedly encourage you to visit Bamboo if you're looking for soul affirmining staff, daily touch-down sunsets and a gorgeous beach to relax on. There's nothing to fault - not even the occasional power cut could take me down!"

From pick up taxis to and from the airport to the wonderful food and including great yoga and meditation practices, relaxed atmosphere and fabulous beach location there was nothing to spoil what became not only a great holiday but a lovely experience. I am now eagerly looking forward to January and seeing old friends and new. "

Nice to have like minded people around you. Tip make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the airport. I nearly missed mine as gridlock traffic!"

"The experience at Bamboo Yoga Retreat was pleasant and fulfilling. Relaxing and friendly atmosphere with the respect of each individual needs. The stuff was nice, friendly and helpful. Tasty food served nicely. You can order dinner and it will be served for you. Bamboo houses were simple but clean. It is all very close to nature, right on the beach, which was the first time for me. End of beach, but very safe. On our territory night time and day time team were looking after us and security was up all night. Several Yoga shalas with plenty of mats and props. Also with fans when hot. Water available at reception to buy. My friend booked a massage at the retreat and was happy with it. Transfer from and to airport was on time and in a good car. The stuff helped with the luggage to carry it to the beach. Yoga classes were well balanced with more energized in the morning after 30 minutes of meditation and breathing, with tips and some info. And sometimes restorative yoga evenings as we stayed 8 days and never missed any class, so was great to restore sometimes :) Our yoga teacher have great experience and a fun and accessible way of teaching. Thank you Ravindra. Overall great and relaxing experience. Thank you to all the team! "

"I was here for a month. I really loved the people working there. They were always friendly and helpful. I found the location very good. It's at the end of the beach and very calm. Every night the were guards to secure the place...(I found it not unsecure anyway...). The food was absolutely really good, and concerning allergies, the was really no problem at all! I'ts very hot, and the mountain chala was a bit too hot sometimes..But with the sea 30 meters away, you will manage. The lounges in the "living room" were also very calm with the wind. Some nights were quite noisy with the train, some fiests and celebrations, but that you have to take into consideration if you choose to go to Goa anyway. At the end of every retreat the make this really nice dinner by the sea, witch was so nice! After a day out, it was always nice to come "home" to Bamboo! Absolutely great!:)"

"Meant to write this ages ago, but just to add to all the great reviews...this is a wonderful place to stay. Friendly, beautiful, right on the beach, great instructors but best of all just a wonderful welcoming relaxed atmosphere. It's not five star luxury but the accommodation is very comfortable and falling asleep to the sound of the waves in a bamboo hut is quite special. We were not brilliant at yoga but felt the classes catered to all levels and abilities. This part of Goa is very clean and the sea is a dream to swim in in December. We traveled as a couple, there were lots of single people, small groups and other couples, everyone very friendly and the staff could not do enough for their guests."

"Let me paint a scenario and see if you recognise yourself in this. You have had a busy time trying to establish yourself a life you thought you always wanted but then maybe you dont even want it that much. Maybe you had a difficult time emotionally and want to go Eat Pray Love on your life. You want to travel, find yourself, find new questions and answers. It would be nice to go to India one day. It would be nice to have some me time. You would love to try/do more yoga one day.If that resonates with you just a little, what you need to do is just make your reservations, pack your bag and go. Now.The lovely Suzanne will be happy to answer all your questions before and during your stay with such kindness, Nii the manager will give you the best smile in the world every time you see him, the boys on reception Dil and Sanu will watch for your every need providing day long fun and entertainment, a listening ear if you need or simply just remembering every single personal touch on how you would like your drink made.Bamboo is the perfect place for first time travelers and for your first time in India. Being tucked away at the end of the beach it is indeed 'India light', as in you don't have to encounter more than you can take in at a time."

"Travelling alone for the first time, I was quite nervous of what to expect and of course about my safety. I wanted to take some time out to relax after a stressful couple of years, and to find some peace and happiness. I could not recommend the overall experience at Bamboo highly enough! The whole team feels like a family, and I had so much chat with Susanne via email before I had even arrived that it felt like meeting an old friend. The seating chill out area is wonderful.. Huge cushions to sit and stare out at the ocean. So unbelievably relaxing, greeted by Susanne on arrival I sat down to some of the delicious and healthy Nepalese food that they serve throughout. I found the majority of people at Bamboo were travelling by themselves and everyone was very friendly, welcoming and social. The highlight of my experience was my first yoga evening session when during our relaxation at the end, I opened my eyes to see the blinds of the yoga shala had been drawn up.. and I was looking at the sunset across the ocean with a large cow wandering along the beach, with dolphins jumping visible from where I was sat. It was without a doubt one of the most mesmerising views I have ever seen, and mainly because it was such surprise!I am beginner/intermediate level of yoga, but had not done much for a long time before visiting Bamboo. I found the variety of teachers absolutely fantastic, especially Helen who had a magical aura of positivity surrounding her. I learnt so much about different types of yoga.. and I really noticed how much I had improved when I returned to the UK. I do think you are so spoilt, that when you come back to the UK it is hard to find such wonderful teachers! The classes are great for all levels, from advanced to some people who couldnt even sit cross-legged! There is a real sense of community and support throughout the classes. I also enjoyed the early morning meditations, which help you feel Zen and focused for the rest of the day.I stayed in a hut by myself, nice large bed with mosquito nets. Enjoyed showering under the stars in the outside bathroom. It is important to make sure you keep your hut locked with the provided padlocks at all times. Although there are guards watching the huts, when I stayed there was a break in at a hut near the back whilst we were all at yoga. They got in as the bathroom door was left open, but it was a case of if someone seeing an opportunity and taking it, stealing some cash but not much more. Which was very unlucky, but everyone dealt with it in a very good professional manner. However I did feel safe as there are people around at all times. The huts are clean and function well but they are not luxurious, so it depends what you are expecting.. Some might say being in a small hut direct on the beach listening to the sound of the waves is pretty luxurious!I would say very strong insect repellent is advised for the evenings, but nothing you wouldn't expect in that part of the world. All sorts of nature around from monkeys, eagles, frogs, dolphins, stray dogs, which are generally very friendly and quite protective so don't be scared (they are all clean and cared for by a local charity).I recommend walking to the neighbouring beach at low tide (away from Patnem - towards the left when facing the ocean when at Bamboo) to get a super cheap massage by locals. Full body massage for almost 2 hours was about 5.. done by a local woman on the beach it was one of the best I've ever had. Nice massage treatments at Bamboo too.. especially the Shiatsu massage with the lady who was really fantastic.Great location at the end of the beach, it is by far the nicest of the yoga retreats on Patnem. I was also grateful that it was a nice quiet chilled beach, good for people watching but never crowded. If you want to party you can take a tuk tuk to the next larger beach. Lots of nice places to eat along Patnem beach, so no real reason to leave.Local things worth doing:1. Take a taxi to a local beach with a blue lagoon called Khola Beach. The beach is more or less deserted bar a few Russian tourists, and of course has a large cool lagoon. It is a bit of a walk from the taxi drop off to the beach but totally worth it.2. The local sunrise dolphin watching trip (run by the local fisherman who is located next to Bamboo). The early start is worth it to see the sunrise and see some dolphins close up.Travelling alone for the first time I felt safe, relaxed and secure. The whole experience felt enlightening and invigorating at the same time. It is a lovely thing to do as a retreat for your mind and body, to switch off and be at peace. You will come away feeling healthier, happier, more flexible and more zen than you have ever been. I would recommend this to everyone!"

"It was our first ever yoga holidays and it was simply the perfect place. Bamboo yoga sets the standard, and a very high one. The yoga is great, we were lucky to experience four different teachers over the course of our 10 days stay. All had different styles so it was a perfect way to learn and discover many aspects of yoga. You don't have to attend every lesson, you chose what you want to do, at the pace you want it.I also started everyday with guided meditation, it was a great way to kick off everyday, in this fantastic setting. The location is amazing, right on the beach, nice and quiet, you forget everything and relax to the max. The food is so good, fresh and tasty. I didn't think vegetarian food could taste like this! Plus all the fresh fruit juices, great for detox! The accommodation is quite basic, but perfect for the setting. The en-suite bathroom is basic but very practical and we like the fact that it's not covered, you can see the sky."

"I was looking for a place to relax and take part in intensive yoga classes - and found exactly that type of place here. I enjoyed having a variety of instructors with different styles and teaching different types of yoga. The classes were as intense as you wanted them to be and all levels were welcome. I also started my meditation practice at Bamboo Yoga Retreat with very well guided daily morning meditation sessions. The food was simply amazing - simple, very tasty vegetarian dishes. And lastly of course an amazing setting right at the beach, which was never crowded. Inviting for a stroll, a swim or simply to relax. I looked around for a long time to find a place closer to home - but decided to go back for Yoga Holidays in Goa at Bamboo Yoga Retreat later this year!"

"Bamboo yoga is the sort of place that once you have been you want to go back. All of the staff are amazing and make you feel like one of the family. The yoga teachers are all highly professional and manage to teach all classes at all levels. The food is always of the highest standard - so high that I believe that I put on weight despite 3 hours of yoga today. The location at the end of Patnem beach makes it feel like you have your own private beach. Between yoga sessions you can go and explore the surrounding area, have a massage or just chill out. I went on my own and felt at ease as soon as I had arrived, It was so good I have already booked a return trip. Just remember to pack ear plugs because the crows and the waves (yes really) can be very loud at night."

The staff are friends by the end of the trip. The yoga is for all levels. The food is some of the best vegetarian nosh you'll ever eat. The huts are simple, clean and all you need. "In one word - wow! The place, the staff, the teachers, the food, the yogis, the spirit - all in all was beyond expectations. I never practiced Yoga before coming to Bamboo. I wanted to have a relaxing, fun holiday but at the same time to experience something new that combines body and soul, and what an experience was that!"

"The place - very cozy and clean. The huts are well equipped with all you need, beside hot water but hey, its so hot outside you wont even feel it. The shala has the best view for morning/afternoon practice and the beach, sandy, and amazing. The Staff - most welcoming and kind, you will always be welcomed with a smile to a point you feel you arrived home. Thanks Heidi, Suzan, Nil and Dil."

"The teachers - Nora was my first even Yoga teacher in a full class of people who already practiced Yoga for many years. She supported me in all the poses, always with a huge smile and outstanding expertise and spirit. I can still imagine her voice talking about body and soul. All the other teachers were great too :)"

"The food - I could defiantly eat this type of food for the rest of my life! Well presented, really tasty and I really felt healthier. "

"The yogis- I traveled alone and was hopping to meet nice people and it exceeded my expectations. All were really nice, kind, interesting, and fun! I enjoyed practicing yoga with them and also going out at nights."

"I spent three weeks here completing my yoga teacher training and absolutely loved it. Heidi and her team are great and always available to help and chat. The huts are really well appointed and the bathroom is outside which is actually really refreshing in the afternoon heat! The resort is right at the end of the beach which means it is really quiet but near the action if you want to walk. The yoga shala is beautiful - looks right onto the ocean and because the resort is only open to residents, there is always a beautiful place to lie on the beach or hang out in the lounge. The best part is probably the food - amazing brunch and fruit juices. Thanks guys for an unforgettable few weeks and I hope our paths cross again. Best wishes for the season!"

"The Bamboo Yoga Retreat is the perfect place to enjoy relaxing yoga holidays. Located at the end of Patnem Beach, it's quiet and away from party noise. The huts are basic but very comfortable with hammocks on the patio and an attached open air bathroom. The food is delicious, the staff very friendly and helpful. Yoga classes are at 8 am and 4 pm. The beach front yoga shala is amazing! The yoga class in the afternoon is ususally more relaxing and quieter than the session in the morning. The teachers are very professional, motivating and helpful. Varies from Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Ashtanga and Yin Yoga or restoritive Yoga. In between the classes, you can enjoy the beach. Very nice atmosphere. Would come back anytime."

We don't usually go back to the same place twice, but are making an exception this time as this is such a special place and we had such a wonderful holiday. The setting is simply stunning, the yoga classes great and varied, the meals healthy and delicious, the decor stylish and comfortable and the staff relaxed, friendly and very helpful. From the website it looks like Heidi and her team have made lots of improvements to the place - to be honest we would have returned without the changes but are looking forward to enjoying them anyway! "Bamboo Yoga Retreat is located in South Goa - quiet place far away from noisy parties and crowded beaches of the North. We have stayed in simple but nice bamboo hut with the partial beach view, located just next to 1 of two yoga shalas. After morning yoga it's great to just chill on the beach and read, swim or watch Dolphins (yes they come very close to the shore). Yoga teachers are great - we had 4 different teachers within our 6 days stay and it was very refreshing as each of them brings different quality to every session. I wouldn't mind staying there longer.. I will be back one day!"
