4 Days Yoga and Ayurveda Retreat in Bali

  • The Yoga Barn, Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Ubud, Bali

Yoga and Wellness in Bali

Yoga and Ayurveda are ancient sister sciences. They reveal the art of living to the fullest. They are based on universal principles and teach us how to balance body, mind, and energy. Ayurveda is a living system of natural medicine that empowers us to heal ourselves. It is a user-friendly system that makes complete sense. Current research documents ayurvedic breakthroughs in prevention and healing of many modern diseases. Ayurveda also specializes in personal freedom through yoga, meditation, chanting and the sensory arts such as music, dancing, cooking, eating and playing.

Ayurvedic cuisine

Enjoy the Ayurvedic cuisine at the Yoga Barn's healthycaf, Little K. According to Ayurveda, food is medicine. And it's all a matter of taste! To maintain balance, Ayurveda prescribes a little of all 6 tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent, pungent) savored in a wide range of wholesome, seasonally fresh foods. The kitchen is clinic, and cooking is alchemy.

The Yoga Barn

The Yoga Barn is an indigenous, rustic, spiritual space, set amidst terraced rice paddies, nestled in the quaint mountain village of Ubud. The Yoga Barn is a place relaxing and genuine, friendly and comfortable, earthy and unpretentious. Our desirable location in Ubud allows guests to take advantage of Bali's beautiful mountain scenery, many multicultural offerings, the warmth of its people, boutique shopping, international food, and a peaceful easy-going lifestyle.

Bali is a small island set amidst the 17,000+ islands of the Indonesian archipelago. It is approx. 3 hours due south of Singapore, and 3 hours north of Perth, Australia. The international airport is called Ngurah Rai International, and the arrival city is Denpasar (DPS).

If youre here for a short time, and only staying in Ubud, you can easily get along by walking everywhere, this is one of the charms of Ubud. (Just watch out for uncovered sections of sidewalks, and please do your best to avoid stepping on the offerings the Balinese leave at the entrances to their family compounds and businesses!)

If youre here for longer and wish to do some independent island exploration, both bicycles and motorbikes are available for rent. Make sure you get a good helmet, roads are narrow, often full of pot holes, dogs are everywhere, and the Balinese like to drive like stock car racers! While driving, repeat this mantra: Slow and Go, Slow and Go Om. If motorbikes arent your thing, there are plenty of drivers ready and willing to take you anywhere. We know a number of great ones, honest, friendly and English speaking. Feel free to ask.

The Yoga Barn is located in Ubud. Ubud is the rather quite area in Bali, away from mass tourism. It has beautiful view of nature, especially the paddy fields and mountain scenery. We are located on Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Ubud, Bali, just behind Siam Sally & Zen Spa. If coming by motorbike, drive down the alley and park in front of The Yoga Barn. if coming by car, park along hanoman street on north of the same side of the street.

The Yoga Barn in conjunction with Bali Spirit can help you to arrange wide array of activities during your stay in Bali. Bali Spirit has some activities on offer. However, they are at additional cost. Below are some tours you can choose upon your arrival in Bali.

Bali Eco Cultural Tour: Reach deep into Bali's natural and cultural traditions on sensitively designed tours with knowledgeable leaders and guides.

Tours Beyond Bali: The string of legendary islands east of Bali hold endless adventures for the intrepid traveler.

Bali Surfing Tours: For experts and novices alike, Bali's seasoned surf companies show the way to the island's most exciting waves.

Bali Dive Tours: Explore Bali's fascinating underwater worlds with experienced dive companies.

"If you are looking for a relaxed and flexible yoga retreat in a friendly atmosphere the Balispirit retreat at the Yogabarn is the way to go. I did the 7day/6night retreat with a package of 10 classes at the Yogabarn, 2 private sessions in a lovely hut outside of town (it had a great jungle vibe to it), 4 treatments at the Kush (wow, loved those) and a short rice paddy walking tour near the city (beautiful)."

"You are not a group so you can put together your own schedule of classes at the Yoga Barn and there's many to choose from. You'll have plenty of time to also investigate Ubud with its many little shops and yummy foods. I stayed at Vila Puriartha just 3 mins down the road from the Yogabarn. A nice little gem with friendly staff and a lovely quiet garden with pool and lying chairs. I'll give the retreat 9 out of 10 stars since I had a great time and everything worked out great. To get a 10 my room at the vila should have been nicer - It was a bit dark and the AC made loud dripping noises even when shut off. Perhaps just ask for a room upstairs. All in all a highly recommendable retreat - good value for money."

"It has been really great experience. Thank you for everything! There was something with my mobile settings, so I could not always check my email account, even though internet connection worked well overall! Overall, everyone was extremely helpful at Yoga Barn and the place I was staying. I loved every minute of my time, this was really 10 out of 10 experience and would love to be back :-)"

"What a lovely holiday! As a single traveler I was slightly concerned but despite arriving later than planned due to flight delays, I spent a nurturing few days mixing yoga with delicious food and pampering massages - the crown massage was so much more than the description. The vouchers for food and treatments meant I didn't really need to spend on much else and my days were full but still left time for a few hours reading by the pool. Exactly what I needed to counteract the stresses of work. The yoga classes have given me a better understanding of technique without feeling pressurized. One suggestion though is to book home flights later in the day. Mine were at lunchtime so I had to leave straight after breakfast and lost the benefit of the last day. And be aware because there was no safe in the room so everything had to be locked up in the case and you have to hunt out the staff in the villa each day to book breakfast. But they did bring banana pancakes, yummy! "

"All in all a really good break."

"My partner booked this for me after a very stressful year to get me back into the grove of yoga, meditation and relaxation. It was wonderful. The retreat was just gorgeous with friendly staff and beautiful rooms. Everything worked and everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome and at home. BaliSpirit planned my whole itinerary and booked in all the spa treatments even including a private one on one yoga class in the heart of one of the Balinese towns. It was a fantastic stay and being literally next door to the yoga barn was fantastic. Thank you and I will definitely be back – this time with my partner for sure. I want him to experience the magic of Ubud, yoga and the Bail Spirit!"

"I just left the Yoga Barn/ BaliSpirit retreat today, and I already miss this place. Everything was well organized, the package all inclusive is such a good value for the activities and services proposed. And special thanks to Ary Dewi, the manager of BaliSpirit. The room is well designed in a charming and natural style, big and comfortable with AC and a fan, set in the peaceful garden of Yoga Barn.I had one of my best massages, very professional. Nice staff. I liked everything in that place, the ambiance, the community, the teachers, the food and the trip in the rice field were agreeable. Maybe the negative point is their success, you have to be 20 minutes before the class and it's fuuuuullll !!! But it is worth it, I felt full of energy. For sure I will come back as soon as possible and will recommend it. If i would create a yoga place, i would make it in the same style..."

"Great country, warm people, great yoga in a fabulous surroundings! We'll definitely be back. The Yoga Barn is highly recommended, is a comfortable, beautiful, laid back space and I enjoyed my stay there. BaliSpirit arranged a package for me that included wonderful massages at KUSH and great classes at the Yoga Barn. Also the food at Kafe and the Garden Kafe was wonderful during the retreat. In terms of organization, Ary of Bali Spirit was so attentive to my requests and arranged for me all the details and helped me when I needed. I was greeted by the lovely Edhi at the airport who took me to my hotel and also around Ubud, explaining me a lot of interesting things about the Balinese people. What more could you want from a retreat in beautiful Bali? Spent a few days in Ubud and Yoga Barn and youll come away with a great experience."

"I booked my solo adventure with BookYogaRetreats and had a wonderful experience from the very first query. The team was so attentive to my requests and questions which helped ease my anxiety and pre-traveling stress. I was greeted by the lovely Edhi at the airport who took me to my accommodation and it was uphill from there! BaliSpirit arranged a wonderful package for me that included much-needed massages at KUSH (I so highly recommend them) and great classes at the Yoga Barn (probably my favorite spot in Ubud) and so many other great things that made being alone fantastic. I cant recommend these guys enough - I know I will definitely be booking my next Bali adventure with them again! "

"My time with BaliSpirit was great. I was picked up from the airport and the driver was great. He told me a little about Bali and about the food I should try. I also received my goodie bag right away, which I was delighted with. It contained my schedule for the week, which was excellently organized. I stayed at Adi Jaya Cottages, which was about a 5-10 minute walk away from the Yoga Barn. I had breakfast there every day, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The Yoga Barn was absolutely beautiful, and I enjoyed the classes there a lot. The Vinyasa classes were my favorite, although I enjoyed trying several different kinds of classes. The Yoga Barn has a lot to offer in terms of the number of classes and types of classes. A highlight for me were the private lessons with Ary at Gokul Yoga. I was picked up promptly in the morning for two mornings and taken a little ways away from the area I was staying in. The lessons were great, and there was a professional photographer that emailed me pictures later. The spa packages were very nice. The three treatments I had at Kush were absolutely amazing. The abhyanga massage (full body hot oil massage) was spectacular, and I loved the facial and crown massage as well. The facilities were also very beautiful and conveniently located right next to the Yoga Barn. The spa treatment (Mandi Lulur) at Zen Spa was also conveniently located close to the Yoga Barn but I didn't enjoy it as much. The spa was very close to the road, so while I was supposed to be relaxing, I was listening to motorbikes zooming by on the road. As well, the receptionist and masseuses didn't really explain the process of the massage and I didn't feel quite as welcome as I was at Kush. The food at Kafe and the Garden Kafe was pretty wonderful during the retreat. Lots of different options, although the Special at the Garden Kafe was the same three days in a row, which was a little disappointing. The staff at both locations were very friendly.Staying in Ubud was definitely the right place for me. During my retreat, I found time to do other activities in addition to yoga. The cottage where I stayed was centrally located, so I was able to walk to the main streets as well as to the Monkey Forest. All in all, it was a great experience. I am glad that I chose BaliSpirit, and I think they did a great job of organizing the week for me. "

"I had an amazing trip and I would recommend it to anyone. Starting from the moment I was picked up from the airport I knew I was in good hands. Edhi was my driver and I'm lucky to now call him a friend. He was so friendly and helpful with everything I needed. The accommodation that Bali Spirit booked for me was perfect as well. A nice simple room with a very authentic Balinese atmosphere. And the yoga barn was amazing! We loved every class we went to and every spa treatment we had. Honestly I didn't expect everything to be so wonderful for the money we paid. This was by far the best budget vacation I've ever had, mainly because it felt like a luxury one. I'll definitely be using Bali Spirit in the future. Thank you so much! "

"From the moment I booked my retreat with BaliSpirit, everything was taken care of. On arrival at the airport my driver greeted me with a sign, delivered me to my accommodation and there was a wonderful BaliSpirit gift bag waiting for me on my bed. Over the next few days I was able to explore Ubud at my own pace with plenty of yoga at the amazing Yoga Barn and massage options included. The team at BaliSpirit went out of their way to ensure I was looked after, they even arranged extra nights at my accommodation, transfers to a new hotel (when I joined the Spirit festival) and transfers back to the airport. These were all details I was stressing over, wondering how I was going to put all the pieces together, but they did it all. For a first time visitor not knowing what to expect, BaliSpirit helped me to relax into the most wonderful holiday I could wish for. Special thanks to Ary who was always super responsive to any request and very generous with his time. I will definitely book through BaliSpirit again without hesitation."

"I had a lovely time in Bali - thank you - it was a bit rushed for me to organize so it was great that you could do it for me. I was looking for a holiday where I could get away from the hassles of work and the Sydney winter. Somewhere I could relax and recuperate with healthy mind and body activities. I could not think of anywhere at all that could come together better than in Ubud with BaliSpirit."

"I want to let you know how much I enjoyed my classes at your yoga studio. I learned so much from Jane. She is such a good teacher. I have been able to use what I learned from her in the classes I teach here on Saipan. I feel more knowledgeable and confident in my teaching. So thank you for creating BaliSpirit. I am planning to return to Bali next summer to take more classes, so see you then."
