Join Jana Kilgore and Heather Sullivan for a fun, engaging, study of the elements of Yosemite and Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a sister science to yoga and translates to the knowledge of life. It is also an opportunity to learn about yourself and the world through the perspective of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. On this Ayurveda yoga retreat, you will enjoy delicious food, hiking, an enlivening yoga practice, and encouraging company, as you explore what it means to lead a life of balance. Experience a rejuvenating journey into Yosemite National Park and the ancient healing art of Ayurveda.
You will be camping at Tuolumne Meadows Campground. Guests are welcome to bring their own tents if they prefer this option. You should bring your own sleeping bag rated to zero degrees Fahrenheit. A pad to insulate you from the ground will help you sleep warm and comfortably.
You will gather at Tuolumne Meadows campground in the high country of Yosemite National Park at 3 p.m. for introductions, intention setting, and an orientation to the course. In the afternoon, you will step into yoga practice and get acquainted with each other and the wild beauty of Yosemite. There will be an introduction to Ayurveda followed by a cooking demonstration, dinner, and campfire.
You will greet the day with morning meditation and yoga practice. After a nourishing breakfast, you will pack your daypacks and head out into Tuolumne Meadows. Here, among the granite domes and wildflowers, you will explore your yoga practice on and off the yoga mat and enjoy a nice day-hike.
In addition to the hiking and yoga practice, there will be also time for dips into the cool waters of the Tuolumne River, conversations with other participants, and enjoying the views of the High Sierra. There will be informative Ayurveda sessions in the afternoon. In the evening, you will enjoy a delicious dinner and a campfire.
After your morning yoga session and breakfast, you will pack up the camp and enjoy final closing activities and a short walk. The campsite must be vacated by 11 a.m. and then the formal programming will conclude at 2 p.m.

Heather is both a yoga instructor and an accomplished backcountry guide with Yosemite destinations, as well as trips in the Himalayas, under her belt. She is a 200-hour ERYT and 200-hour CRYT certified with Yoga Alliance. Her latest joy and success is creating a kid’s yoga and mindfulness program for grades K-6 in the El Portal School System. Heather is also a CMT in Shiatsu and Lomi Lomi massage, an Ayurvedic body-worker and a certified birth doula. Her yoga classes blend Ashtanga flow, Iyengar alignment, and a strong connection to the rhythms and patterns of the natural world.
A born seeker, Jana began studying meditation, eastern philosophy, culture, arts, cooking, plant medicine, and mythology early on. By age 15 sports injuries and chronic pain motivated her to find healing through massage, yoga, and nutrition. She has been studying and teaching ever since. She holds a healing space for the soul to unfurl and express its inner beauty through alignment based Vinyasa yoga, integrative massage therapy and Ayurvedic medicine.
Patrick has been studying the visual, energetic, medicinal and culinary arts since before high school. He began his culinary track taking him through the process of healing with the culinary arts for the last 18 years. Patrick also has studied with many masters mainly focusing on healing the subtle body through ancient Hawaiian, Tibetian, and Taoist meditations and techniques. Through his medical qigong practice, he strives to bring his clients closer to their own inherent divine light, allowing them the opportunity to experience their highest potential.
Tuolumne Meadows Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 8,600 feet. The site is situated along the scenic Tioga Road just five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas, and so much more.
Yosemite Valley, an awe-inspiring landscape containing many of the famous features for which Yosemite National Park is known, is 55 miles and two hours from Tuolumne Meadows. Hiking trails and bike paths are abundant in the valley. Rafting the Merced River is a fun way to cool down on a summer day when water levels are sufficient. Yosemite Valley also offers numerous guided bus tours, educational programs, museums, ranger-led activities, and an art center with workshops.
Glacier Point is an hour from Yosemite Valley, with sweeping views of both, Yosemite and Little Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Vernal and Nevada Falls, and Clouds Rest, among other notable landmarks. A visit to Wawona and the Pioneer Yosemite History Center is like stepping back in time. The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is a must-see. A guided bus tour (tickets must be purchased) and a network of hiking trails lead to stately trees with names like Grizzly Giant, Faithful Couple, and California Tunnel Tree.
