At Back to Nature Yoga Retreats, Jo Fox, your instructor, wants you to experience a deeper connection to yourself and to Mother Nature through the practice of yoga in these beautiful locations. About Hodi Hodi

A little restaurant... a gorgeous beach... a plunge pool... home from home... good times. An ocean of calm away from the real world, Zanzibar is intoxicating - and Hodi Hodi is a beachside sanctuary for small parties of people who want to celebrate, unwind and relax.

Jo Fox Yoga Retreats Zanzibar Program

You'll arrive at a welcome juice and a scented facecloth and be shown to your room. We suggest you put your shoes away as you may not be needing them until you leave! You'll have some time to chill and familiarise yourself with the venue. Maybe take a dip in the ocean just a few foot steps away. There will be a group welcome around 4:00 p.m. where a freshly plucked coconut will be served. Your first yoga session will be around 5:00 p.m. with dinner around 8:00 p.m. After dinner guests will usually chill and chat around the table or stroll out onto the deserted beach and look at the plethora of stars.

Each day will follow pretty much the same pattern in terms of yoga and meal times.

Sunrise and sunset (or moonrise as the case may be!) Yoga sessions on our private deck overlooking the ocean. Breakfast follows the morning session, free time until lunch to take a beach walk, chill on a lounger with a good book or some meditative coloring (books and pens provided). Note that all books and crayons will be donated to the local school nearby when the retreat is over. After lunch, again, nap on your lounger, swim in the ocean and do as you please until your sunset/moonrise session.


Jo Fox
Jo Fox is an internationally accredited yoga teacher who has recently relocated to London after almost a decade in Zanzibar, Tanzania, East Africa, where she ran a well-known yoga business holding group classes, kids classes, and private classes. She also ran a number of safari and beach yoga retreats in some really spectacular places in and around the island, as well as on Tanzania's mainland. Jo first sat on a yoga mat about 20 years ago and since then, it has been in and out of her life, but in the last decade, most definitely in.

Retreat location

Zanzibar is an East African island archipelago just off the coast of Tanzania's mainland. You can fly directly to Zanzibar with some airlines otherwise you fly into to Dar es Salaam and then connect easily with a number of domestic airlines such as Coastal, Tropical or Zanair. The short flight between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar takes about 15 mins and runs throughout the day.

The food plays an important part in our yoga retreats. We like to offer healthy meal options with the following in mind:

Things to do (optional)

Opt in excursions will be available for you should you chose. Snorkeling or a spice tour around one of the local spice farms for which Zanzibar is well known. There will also be the opportunity to visit Stone Town and explore the labyrinth of streets and alleyways, viewing some of the Zanzibar doors, and picking up souvenirs.

There are no regimented routines to Back to Nature Yoga Retreats. They simply want you to enjoy your retreat, take as much time for yourself as you need, or chose to share activities with the group. So whether you're opting in for an excursion of snorkeling or a spice farm tour or simply lounging with a book or taking a barefoot stroll up the deserted stretch of beach, the choice is yours. The group comes together for yoga and communal eating.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR). Turkish Airways, Oman Air, and Ethiopian offer service to the airport. From the airport, you can take a small flight across to the island in just a few minutes with one of a number of providers such as Coastal Aviation, Tropical Air, or Zanair. Transfer from and to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) is included. Jo Fox Yoga Retreats will pick you up from the airport.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 30 days before the arrival date.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 70 days before arrival.
