This retreat takes place at Soulshine Bali, established by musical inspiration Michael Franti, in the dynamic town of Ubud, Bali. This town is considered by many to be the Indonesian hub of art and culture. Bali is a spiritual haven and a sanctuary for personal growth. The people here represent it well, they are celebratory, generous, and welcoming.
Bali culture is unique and famous especially for its rich and vibrant arts. Various forms of dance and music have made Bali's arts and culture scene one of the most diverse in the world. Hinduisim as the main religion, is the major influence behind its development.
Music, drama, dance, and costumes become a feast for the senses during temple festivities. Rites of passage at Balinese family households can almost be seen daily, celebrating the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Offerings made from woven young coconut leaves are given to temples three times daily, with intention and gratitude.
People say that the Balinese people have reached self-content. It is not an exaggeration that when a Balinese is asked what heaven is like, he would say, just like Bali, without the worries of mundane life. You are invited to experience the colorful and diverse culture of Bali during your stay!
You will begin your classes with meditation, breath, and a guidance into inner awareness and quiet space. The sacred morning rituals will be your favorite, they are a wonderful way to offer yourself dedicated care, attention, and much deserved appreciation.
In the afternoons you may swim, lounge, head to the beach, visit temples, stroll through Monkey Forest, shop at the market, sleep, write, and relax with great friends.
Please book your flight to arrive at Denpasar International Airport (DPS). Awesome Yoga Retreats will pick you up from the airport. The transfer is included in the price for arrival and departure days only.
Because it is are located near the equator, Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the ‘wet’ season occurring between November and March and the ‘dry’ season between May and September. The sun still shines bright during the wet season. It is generally always hot, with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80 degrees Fahrenheit and up.
Bali electricity runs at 220 volts. Adapters will be necessary if you are bringing any electrical items. European plug (two round pins) are used. There are adapters for you to borrow and all our rooms have at least one American adapter to plug directly into. You can also easily purchase adapters once you arrive.
It is recommended to bring light clothing that breathes but can also protect you from the sun. Being near the equator, our sun is hot and can burn much faster than what you might be used to. Sleeves or a light jacket is also helpful in the evenings if you decide to take a scooter ride. There is some great natural bug spray and SPF 25 sunscreen for sale, but don't forget to pack your own if you have your favorites.
Depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for a visa in advance or you may be eligible for a visa on arrival. Visa's on arrival are 35 USD. The customs officers do accept other currencies and credit cards as well.
Make sure that you have a passport valid for at least six months from the arrival date or you will be turned away from your departing city. You must also have proof of a return ticket. Visa regulations have been changing in Bali for almost a decade so it is recommended that you check with your consulate for the most up to date information.
Traveling outside of you home country can expose you to bugs your body might not be used to. The odd case of "bali belly" (diarrhea) is not uncommon. Packing an anti-diarrheal can put you at ease. It's always nice to check in with your family doctor or local travel clinic if you need any information on vaccines or medications to bring with you. There are some great pharmacies ("Apotek" in Indonesian) and an awesome health clinic nearby Soulshine Bali in case you need anything.
