During this retreat, you will be staying in various accommodations. On night one and two, you will be staying at Atharv Yogshala, and from night three to seven, you will be staying at Sangrilla Resort. The rooms are cozy, comfortable, and will suit your needs during your retreat. There are single and shared double rooms available. The rooms have air conditioning and have en-suite bathrooms. Wi-Fi is available and you can use the laundry facility if you need to.

Daily itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Rishikesh

Lunch and rest! Prepare yourself for the beautiful yoga journey.

  • After these sessions, you will go for the world-famous Ganga Aarti.

Day 2

  • 07:00 - 09:00 Preparatory yoga and meditation practice

  • 16:00 - 19:00 Local temples and ashram visit
  • 19:00 - 20:00 Dinner in a traditional Indian restaurant

Get ready for your trip starting at 6 a.m. the next morning.

Day 3 Himalayan trip

The first destination is Vashistha Cave where you will meditate to experience the cave meditation as great yogis do. Then, you will swim in the holy river Ganga with her crystal clear healing water. You will have breakfast in Kodiyala which has a great view of the surrounding nature! Then, you will enjoy visiting Devprayag, which is the meeting point of two sacred rivers; “Alaknanda and Bhagirathi”. This place is recharged by a great Yogi Sankaracharya who re-establish the Vedic tradition. Then on the way, you will take lunch and enjoy the beauty of Rudraprayag.

Day 4

In the early morning at 4:30 a.m., you will take a shower and get ready for meditation in the temple of Dhari Devi. Many people experience the awakening of energy in this Dhari Devi temple and Vedic chants in the Himalayas take you a state of trans and transformation. After having some snacks and tea at 7 a.m., you will move to a beautiful village named “Sari” which is around 12 kilometers from Ukhimath. From there, you will do beautiful trekking to Deoria Tal which is a great lake. People say that Gods and Goddess and divine spirits come to swim in this lake.

You can see the panoramic view of the Himalayan range and Chandrashila peak from there. This is around three kilometers trek which takes around one and a half hours to complete. After having breakfast, you will have time for a short rest. Before lunch, there will be a yoga session to remove the tiredness from the trekking. After lunch, you will have time for some more relaxation. You can do this by yourself, with a walk through the forest. If you prefer to practice asana, you will also provide you with a yoga class. After this relaxing afternoon, you will have a meditation practice. After dinner, we have a special practice to feel the presence of great Siddhas and Yogis.

Day 5

You will be there the whole day to experience your inner being and Kundalini Shakti and find yourself who is lost in the world. Special practices and training will be given to make yourself free from all negativity and stress.

Day 6

The day starts with waking up early and rising the divine energy with the sun salutation. You will trek down to Sari village and drive towards Chopta. Chopta is called the Switzerland of India. This is the place where you can heartily enjoy and discover beauty. Enjoy a beautiful stay in Chopta.

Day 7

You will trek to Chandrashila early morning and enjoy the 360-degree view of the Himalaya range. There you will practice meditation at the peak with positive energy. In the afternoon, you will come back to Chopta and take a little rest there.

Day 8

Return to Rudraprayag, then Srinagar, and at last, Rishikesh.

Retreat location

You will spend your first two nights and the last night in the location in the quiet outskirts of Rishikesh. The accommodation is situated in a beautiful quiet place, just outside of Rishikesh. You will be surrounded by nature and you will feel a calmness come over you as soon as you enter the accommodation. The following nights, you will spend the night at Sangrilla Resort. You have the option to either spend the last night in the accommodation or stay in the center of Rishikesh.

Food

Atharv Yogshala will provide you with three delicious Sattvic meals a day. Herbal teas are also available during the day.

Sattvic food

Yoga and Ayurveda have gained increasing importance in the last couple of years. Although these practices and disciplines originated in India, they have gained a lot of popularity outside the country, specifically due to the amazing benefits they offer. Specialists from these disciplines have always believed that the approach to health should not only be physical but also mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Their methods of practice also support this approach. And the same holistic approach comes into play in their diets as well. Yoga and Ayurveda emphasize the Satvik diet for healthy eating. The Satvik diet is found to be abundant in Prana, a universal force that gives life to the plant and animal kingdoms. A Satvik diet is based on foods that are high in ‘sattva guna’ (goodness), according to yoga and Ayurvedic sciences. These systems believe that the diet leads to a clear mind and calm demeanor, while simultaneously benefiting the body. Experts say that a Satvik diet has all the five natural elements and this helps maintain overall balance.

Elements of a Sattvic diet

A Sattvic diet includes water, fruits (all varieties), most of the vegetables, cereals, bread, pulses, nuts, oilseeds, dairy foods, and honey. Cow’s milk is considered the most Sattvic of all foods in this category. Goat’s milk is treated as a good substitute for cow’s milk but buffalo milk doesn’t come under the Sattvic food group. The Sattvic diet does not include onions, garlic, red chilis, black pepper, and other pungent spices because they are believed to be stimulants. On the contrary, spices like turmeric, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, and anis seed are recommended because these spices help the digestive system. Sattvic foods are simple and easy to digest. They also require minimal cooking.

Since there’s not much processing before these foods come to the dining table, they are closer to nature than other foods. Ideally, Sattvic foods are to be eaten fresh and immediately after cooking. Barring fruits, not many raw foods come under the Sattvic diet because raw foods are considered to be carriers of infectious agents. Experts believe that a person who eats Sattvic food can achieve a great combination of physical, mental, and emotional harmony. It goes without saying that such a person would be well focused in life and work as well.

Additionally, the Sattvic diet improves immunity that allows its follower to remain disease-free, or even if he/she falls ill, the recovery would be quick. Positive pranic foods uplift and enhance your energy levels, fulfill your health needs, and actually help the body retain positive energy, which can help heal so many problems and issues. They are also usually high on nutritional value and can also help cure ailments and fulfill goals.

What exactly is a Sattvic diet?

A Sattvic diet, simply, means light and healthy food. It does not go to any extremes of taste, neither too sweet, nor too salty or spicy, just moderate. Plainly put, Sattvic food is that which purifies the body and calms the mind. A Sattvic diet consists of pure food (not processed) that is light in potency, and rich in prana (life force). It energizes the body and mind. Cooked food, consumed within three to four hours of preparation, can be considered Sattvic.

There are shops with organic products, yoga materials, and souvenirs, books. There are some more active things to do in Rishikesh like rafting. Atharv Yogshala recommends you stay in Rishikesh before or after your stay with them because it is an amazing place to spend some extra days in.
