Enjoy the summer, sun, beach and the sea and start every day with a yoga-session that nourishes body and mind. The yoga sessions take place either in the beautiful seminar room of Villa Isabel or directly on the beach. After a delicious brunch you can relax on the fine, sandy beach, do active water-sports, explore roman ruins, stroll through the boutiques of the villages or towns nearby, hike through protected pine forests or make yourself comfortable in our garden. The motto is: do what you like and enjoy it! Once a week we offer to walk leisurly to the natural beach Waikiki, which is framed by stunning rocks made of sandstone. This beach can only be reached by walking! The experienced Yoga teacher and yoga book author Isabella Welsch guides the group through the week with sensibly designed yoga-classes for all levels.
Villa Isabel sits on a 2200 m² park-like garden with a swimming pool, open barbecue- and kitchen-area and a spacious outdoor zone, where you may relax in the shade of the olive trees. The beach is in walking distance! We have a single room, twin rooms (with 2 single beds) and a triple suite. 2 rooms always share one bathroom, the suite has its own.
Villa Marcia sits on a spacious park-like garden with a big swimming pool and comfortable chill-out zones. The rooms are equipped with double beds and have their own bathrooms. You also have the possibility of an extra bed for a baby/child.
You will be taught a modern blend of different styles and the classes are adapted according to the needs and capacities of the participants. During this week you will practice an intermediate level. Many poses allow you to choose between easier or more difficult versions, you will learn, explore and enjoy.
You need to have an average physical and psychological health, please let us know ahead if you have any conditions. The languages of teaching are English and German. If you feel like keeping up your own specific way of practicing, you will have the yoga-room available for in the afternoons. %Explore with all senses everything that this beautiful, Mediterranean region has to offer. You can visit he towns nearby (Tarragona, Reus, Barcelona) or do other activities like sailing. Four times a week a delicious, vegetarian dinner is offered in the garden of Villa Isabel (included in the price).
On the other evenings you are free to choose the place of your dinner (not included in the price): in the courtyard of the medieval castle, in a restaurant at the beach (watching the sunset) or you join the barbecue of the seminar house.
Once a week, usually on Wednesday, we invite you to join us for a really nice excursion. There is no morning yoga-class (you can use the room for your own practice if you want) and we have breakfast at 9.00. At 10.00 we start to walk to the beach Waikiki equipped with a nice lunch-package (included in the price). This is a day to really enjoy nature fully and if we feel like it, we can do yoga there on the beach. We usually walk back in the late afternoon.
I was born in the late 60s in Salzburg, Austria. My father started teaching me yoga when I was an adolescent. Since then, the fascination of yoga has never faded and I had, in turn, started teaching yoga from 1990 onwards. I have been working as a psychotherapist in Vienna for many years. Of course, the perspective of western psychology influenced my approach to yoga and vice versa – the fruit of which is a yoga practice in which I connect with ease the east and the west, the old and the new.
I tried Isabella Welsch’s yoga class for the first time in 1993, unaware that it would become a long-term, intense exploration of yoga, Eastern martial arts, and philosophies. Later,I also completed my training with Isabella because yoga convinced me with its holistic concept: it strengthens the body, provides relaxation techniques, enhances well-being, and ultimately, its philosophical writings provide thoughts on the ultimate questions of our existence. A regular yoga practice affects the entire organism, and the different styles and practices provide each person with exactly what they need!
Altafulla is a medieval Catalan village on the mediterranean sea. It has a beautiful intact historical center crowned by the medieval castle of Altafulla. Along the clean, sandy beach you will find an old fishing quarter dating back to the 18th century with charming small houses. Walking a few minutes along the bay of Altafulla-Tamarit, you reach the place where the river Gaià empties into the sea, its last stretch being a small nature preserve and heaven for songbirds – the Protected Nature Reserve at the mouth of the River Gaià. Due to damming upriver, it carries very little water at its last section, forming a tiny salt marsh separated from the sea by a bar of sand. This wildlife preserve is run by L’Hort de la Sínia, an ecological agriculture, learning, and activities center that can be visited.
If you continue walking a few minutes further along the seashore, you reach another medieval castle – called Castle of Tamarit – that sits on a small promontory overlooking the sea. Beyond the Castle of Tamarit is one of the last remaining pine forests stretching along the sea in Catalonia, part of which is a small nature preserve.
Altafulla is also home to the remains of the Roman Villa of Els Munts, which is part of a larger UNESCO World Heritage Site and where interesting guided tours through the ruins are offered.
Altafulla has a mild, Mediterranean climate all year round with a lot of sunshine. The summer heat rarely reaches above 30 °C and there is always a pleasant sea breeze blowing. Apart from swimming in the sea, the area is especially inviting for cycling and hiking along the coastal pine forests. Tarragona, a former Roman provincial capital with numerous, remarkable Roman monuments, is 8 minutes away by train. Day trips to Barcelona (about 1 h by train) or to other resorts (Sitges, Cambrils) are also easily accessible by the good train connection.
We offer vegetarian/vegan food (breakfast or brunch; and dinner) and use locally grown, organic ingredients as much as possible. There is a summer- and an indoor-kitchen which we use to prepare a variety of delicious meals for our guests. In addition, we cooperate with restaurants in the area.
