About Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is the origin of all the modern Vinyasa Flows, and it tracks back to Pattabhi Jois who learned it from his teacher Sri T. Krishnamacharya, who is commonly known as the father of modern Yoga.

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic series of Asanas and its characteristic is the synchronization of breath, movement, and concentration. Its deep effects are detoxing, strengthening and relaxing so, therefore, balancing body, mind, and emotions.

As a gift of the practice you step out of the mat with focus, strength, and happiness. Ashtanga Yoga will transform your life.

The Mission

Experience Ashtanga Yoga as a “Gentle Flow”. Discover the ease as a base of strength.

Develop a conscious practice - synchronizing concentration (Dristi), breath (Ujjayi) and movement (Vinyasa) for a powerful Flow.

Gain insight into other limbs of Krishnamacharya's Yoga as an inspiration for Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. %See the unity behind these different styles tracking back to the genius father of modern yoga. Learn healthy movements with a good alignment suiting to your body, the daily condition, and age.

As the concept of yoga includes, you will balance the Asana Practice with special Pranayamas – which will lead you to step by step into a state of meditation.

The easy and the advanced are equal – the first breath to open your heart in Sun Salutation is not different from the consciousness you need to do an advanced backbend.

Experience yourself deeply in the yoga practice – you are unique.

Enjoy yourself – and share with others what you received within.

Everybody seeks to bring more peace and happiness to their lives. That’s the aim in Yoga.

Deepen your practice and learn to teach

In these four weeks of intensive training you will learn the Primary Series in-depth while continuing in the Mysore-Practice on your individual level.

You will learn about sequencing in Asana - how a single posture is build up from the easy to the advanced and how to introduce different approaches to Ujjayi Breathing and postures - in general, and depending on the individual needs.

As the structure of the Ashtanga Yoga Series is an intelligent order, with the background of Vinyasa Krama (step-by-step guide of movements) you will learn to “wind up or down” the Ashtanga-Sequence.

By completing the training - you will be able to create any general or subject-based yoga class or create any kind and level of Vinyasa Flow. From the first week onwards, you will guide each other in small parts of the series to reflect learned stuff and gain confidence in your voice, learn to see and to guide your students through empathic “Hands-On”.

With the help of Vinyasa Krama, the “Art of Sequencing”, which is hidden in Ashtanga Vinyasa, and with the knowledge of the “Art of movement” (Vinyasas) which is developed in Vini Yoga, you can break down easily the series to your students' needs. You will also be introduced helpful BKS Iyengar technics for stabilizing, opening and balancing your body.

Integrate a wide range of profound yoga-technics to support your practice or teaching ability.

You learn to make use of the following yoga traditions, which were developed by the different students of Krishnamacharya.

  • “Vinyasa Krama” is the “Art of Sequencing”. It is the art of breathing and practicing in the Krishnamacharya Yoga. This understanding helps a lot to learn and to teach Ashtanga - as it is an intrinsic element and yet somehow hidden and often forgotten. It is a valuable step by step guide, which provides a wide spectrum for personal adaptation in the series.
  • “Vini Yoga” - the “gentle” brake down approach, which was developed for the modern yoga students by the elder son of Krishnamacharya.
  • “BKS Iyengar yoga” – helps through a healthy and target-oriented alignment by using “props”. You will reach your goals in asana, safely. This method was developed by his brother-in-law BKS Iyengar.
  • The yoga of Sri Sribhashyam. Developing the spiritual and subtle part of the practice. Therefore you will include Mudras (= specific asanas with inner concentration), Pranayamas, meditation, following his wonderful, unique and heart touching teachings.
