Ashram Curacao offers the opportunity to get in touch with spiritual values as is traditional in Indian philosophy, with the purpose of eventually obtaining insight into one's true nature or self-realization. These insights can be acquired regardless of origin, culture, religion, or beliefs. Advaita Vedanta or Non-Duality, one of the oldest schools of Hindu philosophy, is the main understanding of the ashram, but Ashram Curaçao welcomes everyone who is seeking a deeper sense of self-awareness.
Step into a world of peace and rest. Make yourself at home and prepare to relax. The ashram is beautifully located in a quiet and peaceful area where relaxation is inevitable.
The ashram house has 3 bedrooms, and is the center of the Ashram. The accommodations are basic, but comfortable. You can choose to stay in a single or shared double room, all equipped with a ceiling fan that will softly snooze you to sleep. Meals are shared on the cozy patio, which is also where we hang out for conversation or just to relax. These surroundings are perfect to unwind and there is enough space to be alone as well. You can sit on the front porch and enjoy the Caribbean breeze or wander around in our gardens and find yourself a cozy hammock or a quiet spot where you can relax, nap, write or read.
There are two newly planted permaculture and syntropic farming food forests and we've just started growing our third. Part of our mindful activities are gardening, and harvesting. The ashram shares its premises with Dinah Veeris, Curacao's well known herbal specialist.
%Your spiritual retreat at Ashram Curaçao starts with a personal intake with Dolph van Stapele. In this pre-process call, you will discuss where you are on your spiritual journey and how Dolph can help you to take your next step.
Non-duality is considered to be one of the most direct paths to enlightenment. No required steps, no plan, because you’re already there. We see ourselves as a fixed person with an assumed identity, instead of the pure potential awareness that we are. So, a mistaken sense of the self arises. Although there's nothing wrong with that, more often than not, this leads to the feeling of disconnection with ourselves or the personal loss of our true identity. Non-duality, an ancient Indian philosophy also referred to as 'the science of being', places this mistaken identity into perspective. When this becomes evident with a clarity that cannot be ignored, we call this enlightenment.
It’s simply a matter of shifting your perspective on life and seeing clearly. The question is, how do we do that?
Throughout your stay at the ashram, specifically during satsangs, you will be challenged to let go of who you believe yourself to be and you will learn to just be, which is here and now. These conversations will evoke new and refreshing insights.
During your time at the ashram you will learn meditation techniques for a quieter mind and acquire better breathing awareness. Insights on how the ego works will arise, the monkey mind will become less active and you will obtain a deeper understanding of the mechanics of the brain and consciousness.
Note that the mind needs at least 3 days to get acquainted with the tranquil mind. From 3 days on the mind tends to open up to obtain a greater awareness of spiritual realization.
The ashram is beautifully located in the midst of rural Fuik. This quiet and serene place shares its premises with the well-known herbalist Dinah Veeris. This herbal oasis is part of the Ashram experience. Dolph and Nephtalie run the ashram together and are happy to share their space and practices with everyone on a path to self-realization.
From the age of 10, Dolph started sensing a more in-depth perception of life. After 2 decades of searching in a variety of spiritual directions to find some clarity, he discovered the wisdom of Buddha. Buddha's search for the liberation of the suffering resonated with Dolph's internal quest. The late Indian Advaita Vedanta teacher Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj represented the embodiment of this wisdom and Dolph took a deep dive and after an intense period of dedicated search with his own teacher he understood the nondual nature of existence, the oneness you often hear about.
Nephtalie was born in Curaçao, and even as a young child, she felt that there was more to life than what is visible to the eye. This need to understand led her to travel the world, mostly on her own, to find her spiritual path. After years of searching in many different places, she came to realize that the truth cannot be found in one geological place, it's everywhere. You are it. Her empathetic heart makes her a welcoming and valuable listener and host. She is also a Reiki healer. As a duo, she and Dolph make Ashram Curaçao a warm and welcoming place to stay.
