Originally opened in 1925 by the name of Hotel Santa Rosa, El Albergue is a historic and romantic lodge located in the Ollantaytambo train station little more than an hour away from Machu Picchu and the city of Cusco.
With only 16 rooms, special detail is given to each and every one, resulting in an elegantly rustic style. Beautiful gardens visited by hummingbirds are engulfed by the aroma of fuchsia, passion flower, as well as peach and avocado trees which all adorn the early 20th-century lodge. Step outside and catch the train to the spectacular ruins of Machu Picchu.
While you are at El Albergue, you may spend your days visiting the Inca and Pre-Inca archeological sites of Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, and Moray, river rafting, mountain biking, and enjoying the beauty and culture of the Andes.
Located only three blocks from the Plaza de Armas in the city of Cusco, El Balcon has a commanding view of the entire city, cathedrals, churches, mountains, and the Ausangate glacier. El Balcon is a renovated colonial Casona that dates back to the 1630s built atop the preceding Inca terraces. Inca stonework and colonial balustrades mesh harmoniously around terraced gardens creating an atmosphere that is beautiful, historic, and authentically Peruvian.
Some of the amenities and services include free airport transportation, complimentary hot breakfast and buffet, laundry, and free yoga classes. El Balcon is happy to help with any travel arrangements so that their guests can experience the best that Cusco and the Sacred Valley have to offer. At El Balcon, they strive to provide their guests with the highest level of hospitality so that they have all they need to feel comfortable at El Balcon's family establishment.
Everything we do is with intention, from what we eat, what we talk about in our daily discussions, what we practice in our vinyasa style yoga classes, to the intention for the week, the time of year we travel and where. Join us and go deeper into discovering you.
Each day is curated to be thoughtful of three main components, nature, culture, and adventure. At the beginning of the retreat we will begin in a welcome circle, where you will receive your Arrow gifts, and Arrow Course chakra guidebook. We will discuss the itinerary for the week and Dani will introduce the theme for the week. We create a theme that will thread through out each discussion for the week that is related to the history and culture of Peru. We do this to connect you to the country we're visiting and prompt your personal and cultural exploration. This theme will tie into the themes of Summer Solstice, the chakras and what it means to follow your Arrow.
Each day will look similar to what is listed above. EVERY morning is consistent with yoga followed by breakfast. Some dinners will be provided at the retreat center but we also enjoy trying out some of the local hot spots, so expect to walk into Cusco for some fun night time wining and dining.
Practice 108 sun salutations in honor of the changing season. 108 is a sacred number in the yogic tradition, anything repeated 108 times is meant to absorb one's intentions into the subconscious. It is also a number that dissolves old energy and ignites new energy. May this practice inspire you to move forward in the direction of your heart and truth.
This practice is for all levels. Do not feel intimated if you have never done 108 sun salutations before. This can be modified for anyone and everyone. You will also have the loving support of your tribe by your side.
During this day, you will take the train right in the sacred valley to the base of one of greatest wonders of the world. Hike to the ancient ruins and be in awe of the history and beauty of what you see
This excursion will consist of a day trip to visit the 500-year-old salt mines, that look like pink and white pools resting at the mountainside. It is a sight to see! The Moray is an ancient Incan ruin that demonstrates the incredible technology of the Incas.
A day to relax in the natural beauty of a lake near Cusco. Enjoy swimming, stand up paddle boarding and picnicking in the most relaxing landscape.
Hike through the forest and see incredible views of Cusco from above. This trail will lead you to a local shaman who will perform an ancient water ceremony for us to revitalize and cleanse for the new season.
Visit with a local the women of Awamaki. A local NGO that promotes weaving and knitting projects. Learn how to weave a basket with these empowering women!
While in the Sacred Valley, you will be staying on a farm where you will get to explore the agricultural systems of the Peruvian people. Enjoy an organic and farm fresh lunch outside surrounded by the valley and mountains.
Incas deemed this spot the belly button of the world. A visit to Cusco tumbles you back into the cosmic realm of ancient Andean culture - knocked down and fused with the colonial splendors of the Spanish conquest, only to be repackaged as a thriving tourist mecca. Yet, Cusco is only the gateway.
Beyond lies the Sacred Valley, an Andean countryside dotted with villages, high altitude hamlets, and ruins linked by trail and railway tracks to the continent's biggest draw, Machu Picchu.
Old ways are not forgotten here. Colorful textiles keep vivid the past as do the wild fiestas and carnivals where pagan tradition meets solemn Catholic ritual. A stunning landscape careens from Andean peaks to orchid-rich cloud forests and Amazon lowlands. Explore it on foot or by fat tire, rafting wild rivers, or simply braving the local buses to the remote and dust-worn corners of this far-reaching, culturally rich department.
Enjoy a delicious a la carte breakfast at both of the hotels. For lunch each day, expect to enjoy a picnic lunch while you're out on one of your many excursions. On Sunday of the retreat, enjoy an amazing farm to table lunch at the El Arbegue's farm. Dinner each night will be either at the hotel or out in town. Yogi Dani loves exploring the cuisine when they travel and wants to offer you an opportunity to wine and dine like the locals do.
Please book your flight to arrive at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Please send Yogi Dani an inquiry. The airport is 2 hours from the hotel.
