Hatha yoga retreat in Peru

We practice and teach Hatha Yoga in the Sivananda style. Our Yoga classes last for 1 hours each and consist of a combination of postures, breath work and relaxation. Previous knowledge of Yoga is not necessary. In the mornings and the evenings you have the option to participate in meditation with devotional chants, mantras and readings of the teachings of Swami Sivananda or other masters. We have a collection of books and videos about Yoga and spiritual development which we are happy to share with you. We are also always open for conversations about these topics.

This holiday starts and ends in Cusco. We pick you up from the airport or your hotel and show you some little known fascinating Inka sites on the way to the guesthouse. Accommodation is in spacious bungalows with garden and mountain views and private facilities. You will be instructed by certified Yoga teachers. We have satsangs once a day with meditation and kirtan.

Day 1: Arrival, free time, yoga class, meditation

  • We pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Cusco and drive to Limatambo visiting the impressive archeological complexes of Killarumiyoq and Tarawasi on the way.
  • We have lunch at the guesthouse.
  • In the afternoon there is free time to explore the surroundings or to rest.
  • Later there will be a Yoga class followed by dinner.
  • We end the day with an optional meditation with devotional chants and mantras.

Day 2: Excursions, meditation, yoga class

  • A journey of about an hour will take us to the village of Mollepata.
  • From there we shall drive to the foot of The Choquechurco mountain where there are some hidden Inka remains.
  • A steep trail leads to the top of the mountain (about 1 1/2 hours) where we shall enjoy a picnic and an optional meditation.
  • We return to the guesthouse in the afternoon where you may have another Yoga class before dinner.

Day 3: Excursion, yoga class, meditation

  • Today we shall explore the vicinity of the guesthouse and learn about the local crops, flora and fauna and the way of life of the neighbors.
  • Go for a leisurely walk to enjoy some panoramic views of the beautiful Limatambo valley or opt for a more vigorous hike to the highlands.
  • Optional Yoga class in the afternoon.
  • After dinner you may join a meditation or relax by a cozy log fire.

Day 4: Free time, yoga class, meditation

  • After breakfast we recommend a short walk in the area which will give you fine views of the Limatambo Valley and the snowy peak of Mount Humantay.
  • Later you may relax in the house or the garden.
  • In the afternoon we offer you a Yoga class and after dinner we may meditate in the open air by a bonfire.

Day 5: Departure

  • After a relaxed breakfast we get ready for our return journey to Cusco.

Durga

Durgas name is Oda Seedhouse. She is a linguist and anthropologist specialising in the Andean and Amazonian cultures. Having lived in the Peruvian Andes for 25 years, she worked as a tour leader and licensed guide for the archeological sites of the Cusco area and Manu National Park. Together with Ganesha she also organizes journeys for individuals and groups in Peru. For many years she has studied topics related to personal growth and secret knowledge.

One of her passions is cooking and she loves to spoil our guests with vegetarian delicacies. She trained as a Yoga teacher at the Val Morin Sivananda Yoga Camp in Canada. More recently she has deepened her studies at the Yoga and Music SchooI at Swarg Ashram, Rishikesh, India where she also learned to play the Indian harmonium. She speaks fluent Spanish, English and German.

Ganesha

Ganeshas name is Armando Romero. He is a plastic artist and potter and have been working for many years in his family business 'Arte Romero', designing and modeling ceramics destined for export. He has exhibited my paintings, sculptures and ceramics both in Peru and abroad.

He loves hiking in nature, especially in areas off the beaten track and he is always ready for a new adventure. The teachings of great masters of all traditions inspire me, especially those of the Indian Yogis. He trained to become a Yoga Teacher at the Sivananda TTC in Garopaba, Brasil and speak Spanish and English.

The retreat will take place in Pichuimarca, Limatambo, Peru.

"My partner and I lead a yoga retreat at limatambo and everything was absolutely perfect. the property is hard to get to but it is worth it. such a beautiful escape with gardens and walking paths galore. the bungalows have everything you need, the yoga space was lovely, the food was absolutely incredible, and the hosts oda and armando were so kind and accommodating in every way.If you go to peru (which you should), I definitely recommend going to cusco, hiking the inca trail, and spending at least a few days at limatambo guesthouse. such a special place."

"Its worth experiencing the 1km or so journey by minibus up a rutted dirt track if you want to get to Paradise! Hidden behind the green metal gates of Yoga Limatambo one enters a different world. Oda and Armando, our hosts on a VegiVentures tour, have created a beautiful environment set in a fertile Andean valley within easy reach from Cusco. From the start we were made to feel very much at home being welcomed by staff who couldn't be more helpful. On arrival, Oda took us for a tour of the grounds, up narrow pathways overhung with exotic foliage and flowers bursting with colour; we discovered hidden sculptures and secret seating areas from which the view draws the eye down the valley through patches of ripening corn and beans and half hidden adobe farmhouses.Returning we passed through the orchard where bananas, mangoes and citrus fruit hang from laden branches. Later we experienced the delights of the home grown fruit and organically grown veg in the wholesome and creative meals that were prepared for us by Oda and Armando's skilful in house chef, after which, time to relax on a sofa in front of a fire of blazing wood logs and chat about the day or talk to Oda, who has an in-depth knowledge of Peruvian history and cultures... or relax in a hammock on the mezzanine and read one of the books from the extensive library of spiritual literature. One evening we were enchanted by the Andean harp playing of a local musician!Yoga Limatambo provides a peaceful and nurturing environment away from the world. One can join in a yoga session on the purpose built covered yoga platform, walk through the valley or just take time out and watch black tailed eagles gliding on thermals high above. (We also visited and bathed in thermal pools and picnicked below ancient Inca ruins where a shaman performed a ritual offering to the mountain spirits). At night with the moon above the valley and to the sound of the cicadas one can retire to the spacious bungalows to shower and relax in the seating area before falling into a comfortable bed dreaming of the next day in Paradise!"

"Oda and Armando were perfect hosts at Limatambo. Oda was our tour leader on a 3 week tour of Peru with Veggi Ventures. Oda is an experienced guide and an expert in Andean culture. We spent 3 days in their stunning guest house where we felt very welcome and free to roam the grounds where they grow much of their own organic food.I rated our bungalow highly with its mezzanine, en-suite and sitting area and the main house, where we took our meals was equally impressive. Our meals were fresh, delicious, organic, and beautifully presented. The Peruvian cooks couldn't do enough for us. We had entertainment on one evening by a Peruvian musician as well as yoga, massage, readings by a Peruvian shaman and a swim in natural spa water and picnics. The memories of the trip will last for ever."

"My husband and I spent a weekend at Limatambo Guesthouse with our 2 year old son, and had a wonderfully relaxing time. The guesthouse property is set up on the hillside of Limatambo, with beautiful gardens, trails that boast lovely views, and ample cottage-style bungalows decorated beautifully with many wonderful artistic touches by Armando himself. Hot showers, comfy beds, and nice big windows with pretty views, healthy food, and excellent customer service make for a perfect weekend (or week-long!) getaway. We enjoyed delicious wholesome vegetarian meals, lovingly prepared by Oda, with many ingredients taken from their very own garden. I took a yoga class in the morning in a lovely outdoor studio, surrounded by nature and the rising sun - I enjoyed it very much and would recommend taking advantage of it to anyone staying at the retreat. Not to mention that a delicious breakfast awaits you when you are done! If you have a few nights and want to get out of Cusco and experience some of Andean natures finest - dont miss out on this hidden gem!"

"Before entering the enchanting Yoga Limatambo Guesthouse, theres a winding, bumpy road thats quite exciting; it makes you feel as if youre on your way to a hidden gem in the mountains, which you are! The guesthouse gave me a memorable experience. I loved walking with my mom (or alone) through the long stretch of garden that was filled with greenery and organic produce. The cats and dog lounge around and keep to themselves, but theyre a joy to watch. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. At night, the fireplace in the main house is toasty and comforting. The interior dcor of the rooms and the main house give off an earthy charm. Oh, and the food was spectacular! The chef is a meticulous and talented man who made some of the best vegan food Ive ever had. Oda and Armando have taken care of us not only at the guesthouse, but also on our other Peru adventures. Theyre capable, responsible, and reliable people. Thank you for a fun, relaxing time!"
