Program

Comprehensive curriculum

This training covers a variety of asana practices, including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, Yin, Restorative, and more, allowing you to develop versatility in your teaching. The training emphasizes focused practice, interactive discussions, and a collaborative learning environment.

Anatomy and philosophy

The anatomy training is research-based, providing a practical understanding of the body’s mechanics to support safe, effective instruction. The philosophy curriculum brings ancient yogic concepts into a modern context, making them relevant and accessible for today’s world.

Hands-on teaching experience

In daily teaching clinics, you’ll have the opportunity to teach every day, building your confidence gradually and developing a range of classes suitable for different skill levels.

Mindfulness practices

Each day closes with guided explorations in meditation, pranayama, mudras, yoga Nidra, and more, allowing you to deepen your personal practice and broaden your understanding of yoga’s holistic benefits.

During this training, you will study the form and function of asana (yoga poses), the foundations of pranayama (breathwork), the basics of meditation, yoga theory and practice, yoga history and philosophy, basic Sanskrit, yoga teacher ethics and boundaries, and the skills required to teach yoga to others. For this training, one year of consistent yoga practice is recommended.

There is no need to know advanced poses such as headstands, handstands, or other arm balances and inversions. You will usually have a day off on Sundays, and you can expect approximately eight to ten hours of training per day. All of the graduates will receive first consideration for available teaching positions at the center.

Retreat location

This teacher training will take place at Ananda Yoga & Detox Center in Koh Phangan, Thailand. Koh Phangan is an island paradise in the Gulf of Thailand, located about 100 kilometers from the coast of southern Thailand in Surat Thani Province and about 15 kilometers from the famous resort island of Koh Samui. Koh Phangan is the largest of Samui's neighboring islands, with an area of 168 square kilometers.

Over 70% of its total area is mountains and tropical forest; the lowland is mountains and coconut fields. There are approximately 14000 people living in Koh Phangan, the majority of whom are of Chinese descent. There are also many Thais from all over Thailand who moved here to start a tourism-related business. Most inhabitants live in Thong Sala, the main gateway into the island from Samui.

The most important produce of Koh Phangan is coconuts, and each month, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan produce more than one million coconut exports to Bangkok. Other prominent island produce is fishing, and of course, there is the growing tourism business. Around 95% of the island's population is Buddhist, and it plays a very significant role in their daily lives.

Boat trips

Boat trips around the island or to other islands can be arranged at Ananda Yoga & Detox Center. Local people have been fishing these waters for generations, and despite the amount of recent changes, Koh Phangan is still full of fishermen who go out on their long-tail boats every day.

Kayaking

The bay in front of Ananda is a perfect location to practice Kayak and explore the surrounding beaches.

Motorcycle rental

Motorcycles are available for rent to explore everything the island has to offer at your own pace.

Mountain bike trips

Mountain bikes are available for rent at Ananda Yoga & Detox Center. Experience mountain biking through the jungle paths or just as a means of transport.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling is a nice way to get a glimpse of the beautiful underwater world around the island. There are many great snorkel spots on the island, especially on the Northwest coast. One of the best spots is located around the little island of Koh Ma (Horse Island), off Mae Haad beach at the Northwestern tip of Koh Phangan.

Thai boxing

Koh Phangan has three Muay Thai stadiums in Thong Sala, one in Haad Rin and one in Thong Nai gPan, where regularly events are being held. You may go there to experience a night of Thailand’s most popular sport.

Visit Phaeng Waterfall National Park

Phaeng Waterfall National Park is located in the village of Madua Wan. The Park has a nice waterfall close to the entrance and some trekking routes to mountaintop viewpoints, including a long winding foot trail leading up to Koh Phangan’s highest mountain peak, Khao Ra, of 630 meters.

Visit the biggest don yang in Thailand

A don yang is a huge tropical tree, and this gigantic specimen measures 14 meters in diameter and stands to branch off leaves and limbs for hundreds of years.

Visit the Chinese temple

The Chinese temple is the result of the dream a woman had in 1990 in which the (Chinese) Buddha spoke to her and asked her to build a firelight for the people.

Visit Wat Khao Noi

Wat Khao Noi is the oldest temple on Koh Phangan with ancient buildings and Chedis. The Buddha statue inside has been there for more than 300 years now.

Spa treatments

Thai massage

This therapeutic healing practice has existed in Thailand for more than a thousand years. How to get there

Recommended Airports

Please book your flight to arrive at Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Phuket International Airport (HKT). Airport transfer is not included in the package.

The most direct way to Koh Phangan is to fly from Bangkok or Phuket to Koh Samui Airport (USM). From there, you can purchase a joint ticket that includes a shuttle from the airport to the pier and the ferry to Koh Phangan. Another option is to fly from Bangkok to Surat Thani Airport (URT) and take the ferry to Koh Phangan. You can buy your joint ticket at the Surat Thani Airport.

There are two ferry options: a fast speedboat ferry or a slow ferry. From Surat Thani Airport to Koh Phangan, the fast ferry takes approximately 3 hours 15 minutes, and the slow ferry takes 5 hours 15 minutes.

From Koh Samui pier to Koh Phangan, the speedboat journey takes approximately 30 minutes, and the slow ferry journey takes 1 hour 30 minutes.

Lomprayah is a speedboat service that provides joint tickets from Koh Samui and Surat Thani airports to Koh Phangan. Meanwhile, Raja Ferry is a slow ferry service that provides joint tickets from Surat Thani Airport to Koh Phangan. Please check their websites for up-to-date ferry services and timetables.

Arrival by bus

Taking a long-distance bus from Bangkok or Phuket is another way to get to Koh Phangan. Lomprayah is one company that provides joint bus and ferry transfers from Bangkok and Phuket to Koh Phangan. You may also travel via other government or private transport providers at the interstate bus terminals.

Arrival by ferry

Several boat companies provide a daily service between Koh Samui, Koh Tao, and Koh Phangan or the mainland.

Arrival by train

There is an efficient train service from Bangkok to the south of Thailand (southern line). Overnight sleeper trains are the best way to go. All trains stop in Chumphon and Suratthani, where you will be provided with a connecting bus to the ferry pier.

The total trip by train and boat takes about nine to 16 hours. A boat ticket to Koh Phangan and transport from the train station to the pier is usually included in the joint ticket. If you do not have a joint ticket, you can always buy a ticket for the boat at the pier.

Arrival by taxi

Once you make it to Koh Phangan, take a taxi from the pier. Tell the driver that you want to go to Ananda Yoga & Detox Center on Hin Kong Beach, and they will know where to take you. The price will range from 200 BHT in the low season to possibly 400 BHT in the high season.
