Do you wish to begin the new year with clarity and energy? The New Year retreat enables you to recharge both physically and mentally. At the same time, you will get a profound personal experience with yoga and meditation. Through yoga and meditation the senses are sharpened, and after the retreat, you will return home with greater clarity and energy.
You will be staying at the guesthouse, which is a converted mill, with a large, beautiful living room and comfortable guest rooms with two to four beds. Single rooms may also be booked. The loft in the old barn has been converted into a yoga room overlooking the creek and the forest. There is space here for 20 people. There is a lovely spot for swimming at the mill pond. Further up the hill is a timber house with a sauna fired by wood.
During the first days of the yoga retreat you will experience a deep feeling of relaxation as you begin to let go. One of the first high points of the retreat course is the intestinal cleansing where your body undergoes a gentle and thorough cleansing. Through peace and concentration you will thus achieve to go deeper with the yoga and meditation. This phase of absorption culminates in three days of silence towards the end of the retreat course. Also at this point, you will go into the sweat lodge, a ritual that cleanses both body and mind.
Through yoga and meditation, you become present in the body, in the mind, and in the surroundings. The body becomes stronger and more balanced. The thoughts calm down and focused awareness becomes a natural state of mind. At Ananda Mandala, you can experience both simple and advanced yoga and meditation techniques, which include asanas, pranayamas, Hatha yoga, mudras and bandhas, yoga Nidra, meditation, prana vidya, and Kriya yoga. This retreat is designed both for people with and without prior experience of yoga and meditation.
Hari Prem learned about yoga when she was very young. She went on an ordinary evening school class with Swami Janakananda, but soon it developed and she moved into the ashram. It was strict discipline but Hari got a deep personal experience with yoga and meditation. After a few years, she became Swami Janakananda's assistant and partner, and they traveled world wide and held shorter and longer retreats. She is deeply grateful to him for the clarity and consistency with which he transmitted the essence of yoga.
After nearly twenty years with her teacher, it was time to continue on her own. Hari met Bjorn and they first traveled to Australia and New Zealand to teach yoga there. They went home again and then they founded a yoga school in Cologne, Germany, and later a course center in Denmark. In 2003, Hari and Bjorn finally settled down in Sweden and opened the Ananda Mandala Retreat Center.
Along the way, Haris interest in yoga had different expressions. First it was the physical joy in the yoga poses, then it was the depth of the meditation, after this it was Kundalini movements and then it was the sankalpa in yoga Nidra to follow an inner longing, a vision. Now she reached a step when it is just to enjoy the moment with clarity and wonder. Teaching yoga has always been close to Haris heart.
Bjorn was born in Copenhagen in 1956. At an early age, he moved to Sweden. One day a good friend of his gave him a yoga book and when he began reading it, he was immediately intrigued and began to do yoga by the book. Soon Bjorn discovered how his life has changed. Bjorns way to experience the world went from uncertainty and confusion to focus and presence.
After a few years of yoga on his own, he came into contact with the Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School and during his stay there, his relationship with yoga and meditation deepened. Especially Kriya yoga gave him the experience of being able to devote himself to life without the need to judge everything he met.
In 1992, Bjorn began to teach yoga and meditation together with Hari Prem. First in Australia and New Zealand and later on at their own yoga school in Cologne. The dream of creating their own retreat center led them however to Denmark. They wanted to give people the opportunity of having a deep and full experience of yoga and meditation. After six years in Denmark, they moved to Sweden. Here is the freedom to be in untouched nature. For Bjorn it is a great gift that he wants to share with the people who choose to come to their center. In Bjorns life there is nothing that makes more sense than to teach yoga and meditation.
Ananda Mandala Yoga Retreat Center in Hoghultstrom is situated in the north western part of Smaland (historical province in southern Sweden), between Aseda and Virserum. The Ananda Mandala Center has an exceptionally beautiful location beside a lake and surrounded by forests and is a pearl of nature. The natural countryside, along with the profound teachings of yoga and meditation, makes it a deeply moving experience to take part in a retreat at Ananda Mandala. Originally this place was a small community built around the waterfall that gave power to a water mill, a saw mill, and carpentry.

"At Ananda Mandala I find the peace I need to dare to face my inner turmoil. Here is a unique blend of familial warmth and traditional wisdom. There is room for and understanding of my spontaneous outbreaks of happiness and tears as well. Hari Prem and Bjorn have created something special, which is a place where many of us feel at home and always long for. Every time I'm at Ananda Mandala, I feel I am closer to myself."

"A yoga retreat is for me not only a pleasure. To work with one self also involves major challenges, such as managing emotions and intrusive thoughts and working with physical and mental limitations. For me this requires that I have great faith in my teachers and that the atmosphere is warm and inspiring. I am very grateful that I have found such an environment at Ananda Mandala and feel that I am in good hands. It is a privilege."

"The yoga training at Ananda Mandala has given me the opportunity to deepen my experience of the yoga tradition at the same time as I have been able to take part in society. The time between the 10-day training courses made it possible for yoga to become an integrated part of my daily life. It means a lot to me that Hari Prem and Bjrn enjoy practicing yoga and meditation. I have in them found a couple who shows how we with yoga can develop a good partnership. My education has opened me to be authentic to myself and towards others. It has happened because my teachers are good at mirroring me when we are together."
