Come join Amparo Rodriguez and enjoy a week of transformative yoga at this gorgeous retreat located on the beautiful and unspoiled Mandrem Beach in the very north of Goa. Set amidst abundant tropical flora and fauna, it has been designed as a deeply nurturing space where you can relax your body, calm your mind, and awaken to your inner sense of being.
You will never go wrong with Ashiyana because it truly is a wonderful place to stay! It feels like your own home, so you can do whatever relaxes your body and mind. You can choose from any of the following lodging options that will definitely fit your budget.
Most of the beach huts are located on the dune which separates Mandrem river from the Arabian Sea. The others are located on the mainland facing the river. There are huts sheltered behind the banks of the dune and others on the dune top. They all come with an en-suite bathroom, double bed with possibility of twin beds, fan, and mosquito net. Whilst being economical, they have recently been lovingly upgraded with simple, yet chic interior-designed finishes.
Much of Ashiyana's accommodation is in a beautiful palm grove fronting the Mandrem River and facing towards the sea, which can be viewed from some of the upper-floor balconies. The accommodation is in the form of luxury eco-lodges, treehouses ,and stone-built houses set amidst lush tropical gardens, statues, and water features.
The lodges and treehouses are built of local wood, giving an Indonesian feel, though most finishing touches are borrowed from classical Indian design, with plenty of natural fabrics and antique furniture.
The Raj area of Ashiyana is located at the far end of the palm grove and is fronted on two sides by the tranquil Mandrem River. Some of the Raj rooms are within the Ashiyana Villa, which was built on the site of the original (fisherman) owner's storehouse, the others are sited along an inlet of the Mandrem River.
Four of the Raj rooms are doubles, and five are magnificent suites with stunning views. All of the Raj rooms are organically-shaped and stone-built, with rustic stucco walls, antique Rajasthani furniture, and sumptuous soft furnishings. No two rooms are the same, each having its individual charm and magnificent view from windows and balcony.
This yoga retreat will take place in Ashiyana Yoga Centre in Goa, India. Ashiyana offers an equilibrium between the tranquility of a coconut palm grove, bounded by the captivating Mandrem River, and a magnificent quiet beach. There are bars, restaurants, internet cafes, and general grocery stores nearby. Also, for those who want to explore the area, you can rent motorbikes or you can hire taxicabs to take you around.
Ashiyana Yoga Centre is chosen because it is a hidden haven for tourists. You will never feel away from home because this sanctuary makes you feel at home. The retreat village is holistically intended to make you comfortable, connected with yourself, and stress-free as possible, providing you with the opportunity to detach from the temptations of technology and tune into the natural rhythms within.
During this yoga holiday, you will practice yoga twice a day. The mornings (7:30 to 10:00 a.m) are dynamic and active and in the afternoons (5:00 to 6:30 p.m), the classes are more regenerative and relaxing with some pranayama. Yoga equipment will be provided by the resort. There are four fully equipped yoga shalas in the grounds.
In the middle of the day, you are free to explore the beach, go for a swim in the Arabian Sea, swing from a hammock, take a dip in the pool, read a book, get a massage, or visit the neighboring villages and take in some of the fascinating Indian cultures.
Please book your flight to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.
Ashiyana has individual hot water heaters in every bathroom, and electricity throughout Ashiyana. However, power cuts are quite common in India due to over demand, so expect the occasional power outage. These rarely last longer than a few minutes. You are asked to help in conserving energy by turning off your hot water heaters and fans when you are not needing them.
Ashiyana is a retreat center intended to help you to switch off from the external world; therefore, Wi-Fi access is limited to only being available in the reception area. You are asked to be mindful when using any electronic devices to maintain the quiet and calm space. Nearly all of the nearby restaurants in the area offer free Wi-Fi as well.
The internet supply in Goa can be a little slow and temperamental, particularly when compared to the west. You can think of this as a good lesson in patience, and a reminder to surrender to things outside of your control.
Most countries require a visa entry to India (tourist visa). Some countries are eligible for the new visa on arrival (e-Visa), which is valid for 30 days. Please check with the Indian high commission what visa you will need to apply for, and make sure that you leave ample time to apply before your holiday.
Malaria is not prevalent in Goa, as it is surrounded by tidal water. You are suggested to protect yourself when the mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk, by wearing mosquito repellent and covering your skin. Please check with your country’s government health regulations for any vaccinations that are required.
Unfortunately, Ashiyana does not currently have credit or debit card payment facilities. Please ensure that you bring ample cash with you, or exchange and withdraw money in the local village.
There is an ATM about a five-minute taxi drive away, in the local market village. There is a closer ATM within walking distance, but this is often out of service. There are a couple of local money-exchanges a short walk from Ashiyana that most of the guests use and you will need your passport as ID.
It is possible to bring non-yoga friends and partners at a discounted rate for a shared room including the meals.
You are advised to take out travel and appropriate cancellation insurance when making any bookings.
