Accommodation

During the holiday, you will be moving down the river and camping at a different location within the reservoirs on the Snake River.

You will need to book a room in the Cambridge area since you are meeting the night before the trip. This one-night accommodation prior to the start of the retreat is not included in the price.

Program

Yoga is both a physical practice that stretches and strengthens your body and mental practice that calms and clarifies your mind. This retreat offers both physical movement practices (asanas), breathing practices (pranayama), and meditations. The retreat will focus on a specific theme and teaching for the week to help you build your practice and expand conscious awareness.

Take time for yourself and jump into the perfect outdoor and adventurous yoga retreat. This trip is like no other.

Difficulty rating

Yoga

All skill levels are welcome. Yoga Inbody instructors teach alignment-based flow classes that will open your heart and expand your mind. The sessions offer modifications for any injuries and provide yoga props to support your body. America's Rafting keeps this retreat to a small group so each student receives the attention they need. Students love releasing tension in their bodies and receiving healing touches and adjustments during the restorative practices.

Rafting

The Snake River through Hells Canyon is rated Class III-IV whitewater. It is a large volume river with drop-pool style rapids, meaning a rapid is followed by a large pool of calm water. This section consists of mostly Class III rapids with a few Class IV’s. Many of these rapids are described as roller-coaster waves creating a fun and enjoyable ride. Many boat landings are rocky and require walking varied distances on uneven terrain. Once at camp, the terrain is usually open and forgiving. All hiking is optional and easy to moderate difficulty.

Trip's highlights

  • Enjoy beautiful scenery, plentiful wildlife, and delicious food while spending 4 days and 3 nights in Hells Canyon on the border of Idaho and Oregon
  • Morning yoga classes, guided meditations, Reiki energy, ACRO yoga, and playful evening workshops all taught by Yoga Inbody
  • 34 miles of splashy Class II-IV whitewater rafting in oar boats, paddle boats or inflatable kayaks
  • All meals are restaurant quality with vegetarian options made from scratch in our full-service kitchen on the river
  • Hike to view some of Idaho’s historical landmarks
  • Explore the wilderness and find wildlife like bald eagles, bighorn sheep, otters, mountain goats, deer, elk, brown and cinnamon bears, and more
  • Sleep riverside on thick cushy sleeping pads beneath the starry night sky

Boats

There are many different kinds of watercraft river runners take downstream: rafts, kayaks, jet boats, dories, and even back in the day steamboats and the occasional thrill-seeking ride in a barrel. America’s Rafting Company sticks to three options:

Oar boats

Oar boats are the most comfortable and stable boats. It’s a 16′-18′ inflatable raft controlled by a guide in the middle of the boat with 2 large oars. It’s ideal for fishing, picture taking, relaxing, and enjoying the ride. These boats are great for everyone, and younger kids and older adults tend to really like them.

Fits 2-6 people with a guide.

Paddle boats

Paddle boats are in the action. Each person is equipped with a paddle to navigate down the river with the help of a guide located in the back of the boat. These inflatable rafts are slightly smaller than the Oar Boats and usually have a splashier more jam-packed ride. They are great for friends or family looking for an adventure.

Fits 4-8 people with a guide.

Inflatable kayaks

Inflatable Kayaks hold one or two people right above the river. They are great for exploring on flat water or enjoying an adventurous ride through rapids! These boats can be inflated or deflated and stored on a bigger raft.

Fits 1-2 people with no guide.

When you book a trip, you’ll have the option to choose between the type of boat you’d like to ride in. America's Rafting encourages switching up boats during the trip if you’d like! Not all trips can have all types of boats, but they try their best to accommodate your requests!

Itinerary

Trips start and end in Cambridge, Idaho.

Evening before departure: Stay in the Cambridge, ID area and you’ll have a pre-trip meeting with appetizers in the Rafting Store to provide dry bags for packing and answer any last-minute questions.

Day 1

The bus leaves early in the morning for a scenic drive along several reservoirs on the Snake River. You arrive at the Hells Canyon Dam and prepare to begin your yoga adventure! Your first day starts off with a bang with several Class II-III rapids.

Lunch is served riverside and before we eat the yoga retreat officially opens with a special river ceremony and short hike. After lunch, the Class IV whitewater rapids are fun, big, and splashy.

In the afternoon, boats pull into camp where tents will be ready and waiting. Relaxing in camp, swimming, hiking, and playing beach games is encouraged at camp. After the play, there’ll be time for yoga class / activities and then a delicious gourmet meal is prepared from the river kitchen: appetizers, delicious entrées, fresh-baked Dutch Oven bread, and decadent desserts.

Days 2 - 3

After sleeping under the stars, you’ll wake for more yoga time before the sun crests the deep canyon walls. Coffee and breakfast will soon follow. Bags will be packed and boats will be boarded. Phenomenal whitewater follows with calm swimming pools, great fishing holes, rich history, tasty food, and fun.

This is when the magic of a river trip happens: no clocks, no cell phones, no computers; just you, the group, and your beautiful surroundings. The evening will be similar to the previous night at a camp further downriver.

Last day

You arrive at the take-out in the early afternoon and head back to civilization. You can plan on arriving back in Cambridge around 7:00 p.m. If you have any time constrictions, please let America's Rafting know when you book the trip and they can adjust accordingly.

Note for booking departing flights after the trip: There’s a lot of travel time from the river on the last day. America's Rafting does not recommend flying out on the final day of a river trip. Please let them know if you have any questions about appropriate flight times and airport choices.
