All guests will be staying in a secluded jungle Eco-lodge. This treehouse-like eco-lodge is nestled within the jungle and overlooks the ocean at Playa Maderas, one of Nicaragua’s best surf spots. It’s a cozy setup complete with wooden cabanas built to complement the natural environment around you. Each cabana has a view of the jungle, its own private bathroom, ceiling fan, mosquito net, and comfortable box-spring beds. It is for single, double, or triple occupancy.

Their low energy system does not provide hot water for showers, but most visitors find the water refreshing in the hot climate. All cabanas are located in such a way that you can enjoy your privacy. At night, you will fall asleep to the sounds of the trees and the distant waves breaking on the beach. With the morning sun, the calls of birds and howler monkeys will welcome you to a new day.

Autumn Adams will lead you in two daily yoga sessions overlooking the jungle and the Pacific Ocean. It’s truly an amazing place to practice yoga! You’ll begin each morning by waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys and tropical birds in your open-air cabana nestled in the trees. Then you’ll practice an energizing, all-level Vinyasa flow session followed by a delicious breakfast. Spend your afternoons surfing, reading a good book, soaking up the sun, or practicing hammock asana.

After a relaxing and restorative yoga practice, spend your evenings enjoying a locally sourced and family-style dinner. Exchange stories with and get to know people from all over the world! Cap off the night by watching a breathtaking sunset. Then, after stargazing, fall asleep to the sounds of the trees and the distant waves breaking on the beach. This retreat is your chance to expand your yoga practice, experience deep relaxation, and meet life-long friends.

Yoga

You will be joining an Vinyasa yoga and Retorative yoga classes, specially tailored to suit all levels. Each session will include asana, pranayama, and meditation sessions. You may find your classes gently challenging while you experience new and familiar asanas to create space and openness throughout your body, and at the same time, release stress and muscle tension.

Surf

You will experience unforgettable surfing in one of Nicaragua’s premier surf spots, Playa Maderas. The surf spot offers waves for beginners to more advanced surfers. The beach consists of soft white sand with some rocky areas creating interesting tidal pools to explore. From the surfer’s point of view, Playa Maderas has a slow wave in reasonably deep water, with four breaks getting hollow on a rising tide, which is rated good for beginners.

This retreat will be held in a secluded jungle eco-lodge overlooking the surf at Playa Maderas, eight kilometers north of San Juan Del Sur in Nicaragua. This is a place for people who want something different - to stay in a private cabana among the trees, share family-style meals with like-minded people, watch the sunset and the stars from the deck in the treetops, and stroll five minutes to pristine beaches.

If you are interested in a trip to one or more of the following places of interest, Ambuja Yoga can arrange a tour for you with your own private driver for the day. You can always ask for a more detailed information and insider tips about the different options.

Canopy tour and rappeling

There are two sites near San Juan Del Sur offering a fun morning or afternoon of zip lining through the jungle treetops. You can combine that with rappeling, to double the adrenaline kick, by descending through the trees suspended from a wire. To ensure availability, ask Ambuja Yoga about reserving ahead of time.

Fishing

Go fishing by boat along the coast. Please inform Ambuja Yoga about your desired level of fishing, whether recreational or experienced. Weather, currents, and other factors can affect the feasibility of fishing trips. It is advisable to reserve the boat ahead of time.

Frisbee golf

The first frisbee golf course in Nicaragua is only a 15 minutes’ walk from Ambuja Yoga! It costs approximately 2 USD per day to play as many rounds as you like. No experience is required.

Granada

Founded in 1524, Granada enjoys the distinction of being the oldest colonial city in the Americas. Situated on the edge of Lake Nicaragua and in the shadow of the Mombacho volcano, Granada is a romantic city of colorful colonial homes and churches. Just off Granada is Las Isletas, made up of more than 360 islands, created when Mombacho exploded 20,000 years ago.

Horseback riding

Gallop or trot along the beautiful Playa Maderas, with a local guide who will pick you up at the lodge and take you for a ride across the sand and the trails behind. Rancho Chilamate, situated 20 minutes south of San Juan del Sur, also offers guided horseback riding tours. It’s a half-day-tour including lunch. They will provide boots, a hat, and even jeans if you forgot to bring them!

Isla de Ometepe

Ometepe is one of the most striking scenes in Nicaragua. It is an island emerging from Lake Nicaragua, made of two volcanoes. The extinct Maderas volcano features thick cloud forests, abundant birds and animals, waterfalls, a beautiful crater lagoon, and amazing panoramic views. More energetic visitors can hike up the steep slopes of Concepción volcano, which is still active.

Kayaking

Go kayaking in Rio Istian to see all types of exotic birds and maybe even a Cayman!

Laguna de Apoyo

The Apoyo volcano is an extinct crater dating back 23,000 years ago. Today, the crater holds a marvelous lagoon, seven kilometers wide, and sitting a few hundred meters below the crater rim. It is Nicaragua’s largest crater lake, reaching depths of up to two hundred meters, and is considered the country’s cleanest water for bathing. The views across Laguna de Apoyo towards Granada and Lake Nicaragua make it a popular destination, and visitors can enjoy this scenery from one of the many restaurants situated on the crater rim.

Masaya market

Masaya is known as “the cradle of Nicaraguan folklore”, and is the very heart of Nicaraguan handicrafts. The market is divided into sections, each serving a different need. Aside from unique Nicaraguan products such as hand-woven hammocks, embroidered blouses, wood carvings, and hemp weaving, the market is very diverse; everything is available in the market from hardware and beauty supplies to produce from the surrounding area.

Masaya volcano

Volcán Masaya national park is the most active volcano in the region. It actually consists of two volcanoes: Masaya and Nindirí with a total of five craters. The park has a small museum and tourist information where tours can be booked. Tour guides and proper equipment are provided for treks. A popular tour is one that takes you inside a bat cave created by lava flows from past eruptions. Today, lava can be visible in the volcano’s crater. Cars can park right against the active crater rim so you can just step out and peer into the sulfurous smoke, while the ground rumbles beneath you.

Mombacho nature reserve

Mombacho’s majestic peak overlooking Granada has two craters and is covered in a dense cloud forest. There are scenic walks on well-built trails ranging from a few minutes to several hours, and from easy to challenging. It is possible to see over 50 different species of mammals, 174 types of birds, and 750 different varieties of flora. Knowledgeable guide services are available upon arrival at the Biological Station (at the top).

Sailing

Ambuja Yoga can arrange a relaxing and fun afternoon sailing on a catamaran along the pacific coast of Nicaragua, anchoring at a beautiful secluded beach, where you can swim and snorkel. The trip includes drinks and snacks; and if you’re lucky you could see dolphins, turtles and whales, and maybe catch some fresh fish. Nothing beats watching the sunset with a cocktail in your hand and the wind in your hair!

Swimming

Another popular activity is to swim at Ojo de Aqua, a natural freshwater spring.

Turtle watching

Located 18 kilometers south of San Juan del Sur, La Flor wildlife refuge is a spectacular deserted pacific beach where the Paslama (Olive Ridley) and Tora (Leatherback) turtles arrive by the thousands to lay their eggs. Between July and January each year, you can witness this unique event and Ambuja Yoga can arrange a nocturnal turtle tour for you. Various factors influence the presence of turtles, so please check with them upon arrival.

Dunia, who lives at the bottom of the hill, is an excellent masseuse. Feel free to walk down and arrange appointments with her directly, for an extra cost.

"I enjoyed the beautiful setting, the babbling creek, the amazing, nourishing food, the loving women who came together and most of all the yoga practice! I am very new to yoga and has some anxiety and self-consciousness going into the retreat, but Autumn and Toni and the other women made me feel so welcome. I loved the long length of the sessions. I like that nothing about this weekend felt rushed."

"I immediately grew as a yoga student because I felt empowered and supported to take risks in my practice and try poses I normally would not even attempt. I am also working on the “mental” piece of yoga and pieces of practice are helping me on this meditative journey. I have grown as a woman— I was reminded of my worth, my strength, and worthiness of love."

"I enjoyed the encouragement to listen and love your body, taking your practice at your own pace, yet allowing your body to be open enough to push to new levels as well. Very encouraging and supportive space to practice without judgement. Toni- love the way you explain and show each movement. I’ve grown as a student to allow myself to listen and trust my body and mind; in order to become more comfortable with my own journey of yoga. Autumn- you should do on tape meditation! Your voice is so calming and safe, really allowing to get into a meditative space with mind and body. THANK YOU BOTH!!!"

"This was by far the best experience I've had in a yoga class. The instructor was balanced and the classes moved along at a good pace with time for instruction, corrective criticism, and questions. I received a lot of coaching which has already enhanced my practice and improved my physical wellbeing in general. The coaching was given in such a way as to not draw attention to my needs but to highlight the benefits of doing a pose the right way. After each class I felt stronger in mind and body and excited about the growth I was experiencing in my practice. I wish I lived in Bend so I could have constant access to such a great instructor. I will have to do more retreats now! "

"You thought of every detail and every expense ahead of time so that we didn't need to be concerned at all for the week. You gave us clear direction from the beginning about what to bring and what to expect. It made me feel very comfortable and trust that you had thought of it all. The bonus was the other wonderful people I got to meet along the way. It's so awesome when like minded individuals come together for a joined experience. The positivity and energy of the group made it all the better. Yoga is all about community and judging by our thread we are still sharing, we were able to build a community in only a week. One of the reasons for this was your warm, hospitable charm and passion for retreats. I thank you for all of your hard work. "

"Two years ago, at age 60, I met Autumn. My yoga practices quickly went to a new level attending at least 5 practices per week. Autumn['s]... classes can be both subtle and rigorous."

"My interest in yoga began because of my stiff joints & bones caused by using cholesterol lowering statins for 20 plus years. Today I have the best HDL & LDL cholesterol levels since taking these medications. I am more impressed that I no longer have the stiff joint & muscle pains. What is more incredible is last year I was scheduled to have total knee replacement surgery. After 2 injections to the knee from the doctors & Autumn guiding me through my practices the Dr. decided I did not need surgery. My legs gained strength & flexibility & last year I played the best golf of my life. I also skied 35 days this season. I know this is not coincidence."

"I cannot imagine living without my yoga practices & know it will be a part of my life forever! Thank you Autumn for your consistent high level of commitment, attention & spirit. "

"From the moment I booked the trip, I knew I was in good hands. Autumn made sure that all the details were covered and insured that I was comfortable throughout my first international travel experience. Everything was arranged and seamless from the moment we stepped off the plane in Managua, Nicaragua. The retreat center was serene and no matter where I was on the property at Costa Dulce, I had a view of a gorgeous beach landscape that was free of people and so peaceful. The Yoga Studio was one of the best places to take in the view; it was impossible not to have an amazing practice with the sounds of the ocean and the smell of the breeze. "

"The occasional monkey spotting didn’t hurt either. Autumn was great with everyone at the retreat in her classes, spending an equal amount of time focusing on her guests and making sure everyone had the best practice tailored to their individual wants and needs. Everyone always left practice with a restful smile and a belly full of anticipation for the delicious food. Surfing was effortless with the guidance of the retreat staff and accessibility to the boards whenever we wanted them. The boogie boards were nice too, when we didn’t feel like going all out. The day activities and options they had available were also undeniably unforgettable. I chose to go on a night venture to a sea turtle reserve, and it didn’t disappoint. "

"We saw different species of sea turtles hatching and making their way to the sea - never have I felt so grounded and close to the oceans natural beauty. The day trips to San Juan Del Sur to shop and experience the restaurants were also a nice way to switch it up and really take in the Nicaraguan culture. Overall, my experience with Ambuja Yoga was made by Autumn's attention to detail and ability to seamlessly plan an unforgettable retreat. I returned home with memories that will last a lifetime and the rested body and mind that I was searching for. Thanks Autumn! I had a blast!"

"Autumn is so clear when she guides you through a movement. She thought of everything from beginning to end. We had an amazing venue and it married so well with the energy of our group and teacher. We enjoyed a hike with amazing mountain views (we were rewarded with a great lunch at the top), tons of yoga class time, plus time to relax and visit with others. She provided special gift bags, which I thought was so thoughtful, and a reflection of her generous nature. It was a great weekend and I am really looking forward to next year!"
