All guests will be staying in a secluded jungle Eco-lodge. This treehouse-like eco-lodge is nestled within the jungle and overlooks the ocean at Playa Maderas, one of Nicaragua’s best surf spots. It’s a cozy setup complete with wooden cabanas built to complement the natural environment around you. Each cabana has a view of the jungle, its own private bathroom, ceiling fan, mosquito net, and comfortable box-spring beds. It is for single, double, or triple occupancy.
Their low energy system does not provide hot water for showers, but most visitors find the water refreshing in the hot climate. All cabanas are located in such a way that you can enjoy your privacy. At night, you will fall asleep to the sounds of the trees and the distant waves breaking on the beach. With the morning sun, the calls of birds and howler monkeys will welcome you to a new day.
Autumn Adams will lead you in two daily yoga sessions overlooking the jungle and the Pacific Ocean. It’s truly an amazing place to practice yoga! You’ll begin each morning by waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys and tropical birds in your open-air cabana nestled in the trees. Then you’ll practice an energizing, all-level Vinyasa flow session followed by a delicious breakfast. Spend your afternoons surfing, reading a good book, soaking up the sun, or practicing hammock asana.
After a relaxing and restorative yoga practice, spend your evenings enjoying a locally sourced and family-style dinner. Exchange stories with and get to know people from all over the world! You will be joining an Vinyasa yoga and Retorative yoga classes, specially tailored to suit all levels. Each session will include asana, pranayama, and meditation sessions. You may find your classes gently challenging while you experience new and familiar asanas to create space and openness throughout your body, and at the same time, release stress and muscle tension.
You will experience unforgettable surfing in one of Nicaragua’s premier surf spots, Playa Maderas. The surf spot offers waves for beginners to more advanced surfers. The beach consists of soft white sand with some rocky areas creating interesting tidal pools to explore. From the surfer’s point of view, Playa Maderas has a slow wave in reasonably deep water, with four breaks getting hollow on a rising tide, which is rated good for beginners.

There are two sites near San Juan Del Sur offering a fun morning or afternoon of zip lining through the jungle treetops. You can combine that with rappeling, to double the adrenaline kick, by descending through the trees suspended from a wire. To ensure availability, ask Ambuja Yoga about reserving ahead of time.
Go fishing by boat along the coast. Please inform Ambuja Yoga about your desired level of fishing, whether recreational or experienced. Weather, currents, and other factors can affect the feasibility of fishing trips. It is advisable to reserve the boat ahead of time.
The first frisbee golf course in Nicaragua is only a 15 minutes’ walk from Ambuja Yoga! It costs approximately 2 USD per day to play as many rounds as you like. No experience is required.
Founded in 1524, Granada enjoys the distinction of being the oldest colonial city in the Americas. Situated on the edge of Lake Nicaragua and in the shadow of the Mombacho volcano, Granada is a romantic city of colorful colonial homes and churches. Just off Granada is Las Isletas, made up of more than 360 islands, created when Mombacho exploded 20,000 years ago.
Gallop or trot along the beautiful Playa Maderas, with a local guide who will pick you up at the lodge and take you for a ride across the sand and the trails behind. Rancho Chilamate, situated 20 minutes south of San Juan del Sur, also offers guided horseback riding tours. It’s a half-day-tour including lunch. They will provide boots, a hat, and even jeans if you forgot to bring them!
Ometepe is one of the most striking scenes in Nicaragua. It is an island emerging from Lake Nicaragua, made of two volcanoes. The extinct Maderas volcano features thick cloud forests, abundant birds and animals, waterfalls, a beautiful crater lagoon, and amazing panoramic views. More energetic visitors can hike up the steep slopes of Concepción volcano, which is still active.

The Apoyo volcano is an extinct crater dating back 23,000 years ago. Today, the crater holds a marvelous lagoon, seven kilometers wide, and sitting a few hundred meters below the crater rim. It is Nicaragua’s largest crater lake, reaching depths of up to two hundred meters, and is considered the country’s cleanest water for bathing. The views across Laguna de Apoyo towards Granada and Lake Nicaragua make it a popular destination, and visitors can enjoy this scenery from one of the many restaurants situated on the crater rim.
Masaya is known as “the cradle of Nicaraguan folklore”, and is the very heart of Nicaraguan handicrafts. The market is divided into sections, each serving a different need. Aside from unique Nicaraguan products such as hand-woven hammocks, embroidered blouses, wood carvings, and hemp weaving, the market is very diverse; everything is available in the market from hardware and beauty supplies to produce from the surrounding area.
Volcán Masaya national park is the most active volcano in the region. It actually consists of two volcanoes: Masaya and Nindirí with a total of five craters. The park has a small museum and tourist information where tours can be booked. Tour guides and proper equipment are provided for treks. A popular tour is one that takes you inside a bat cave created by lava flows from past eruptions. Today, lava can be visible in the volcano’s crater. Cars can park right against the active crater rim so you can just step out and peer into the sulfurous smoke, while the ground rumbles beneath you.
Mombacho’s majestic peak overlooking Granada has two craters and is covered in a dense cloud forest. There are scenic walks on well-built trails ranging from a few minutes to several hours, and from easy to challenging. It is possible to see over 50 different species of mammals, 174 types of birds, and 750 different varieties of flora. Knowledgeable guide services are available upon arrival at the Biological Station (at the top).
Ambuja Yoga can arrange a relaxing and fun afternoon sailing on a catamaran along the pacific coast of Nicaragua, anchoring at a beautiful secluded beach, where you can swim and snorkel. The trip includes drinks and snacks; and if you’re lucky you could see dolphins, turtles and whales, and maybe catch some fresh fish. Nothing beats watching the sunset with a cocktail in your hand and the wind in your hair!
Another popular activity is to swim at Ojo de Aqua, a natural freshwater spring.
Located 18 kilometers south of San Juan del Sur, La Flor wildlife refuge is a spectacular deserted pacific beach where the Paslama (Olive Ridley) and Tora (Leatherback) turtles arrive by the thousands to lay their eggs. Between July and January each year, you can witness this unique event and Ambuja Yoga can arrange a nocturnal turtle tour for you. Various factors influence the presence of turtles, so please check with them upon arrival.
Dunia, who lives at the bottom of the hill, is an excellent masseuse. Feel free to walk down and arrange appointments with her directly, for an extra cost.
