As you arrive in our new home for the next six days Hisetsunotaki camp in Kumano, we will take the time to meet and greet. You can take some time to rest and explore the city or our beautiful hotel and its waterfall. In the evening, we will have a welcome ceremony to explain the foundations and the itinerary for our next days in Kumano together.

During this retreat, you will stay in a campsite in Kihō.

Program

Full days on the retreat will look like this:

  • Wake up and join the yoga practice of one hour and a half, followed by a delicious Japanese breakfast
  • Get ready to explore Kumano in one of the excursions
  • Lunch will be served either in a restaurant or as a picnic in one of the magical places Kumano has
  • In the late afternoon, you can rest or maybe you can join a meditation session or a Yoga Nidra class
  • Dinner will be served

Yoga Retrets has planned different excursions that will allow you to discover Kumano and many important aspects of the Japanese culture including its traditions, its religions, and the spiritual and poetic side of beautiful Japan, a Japan that not many people has access to as a tourist.

  • Water purification of your body and spirit lead by a master
  • Maruyama Senmaida ricefields
  • River cruise in Kumano-Gawa river
  • Walk-in Kumano Dodo, a pilgrimage route
  • Japanese noodles soba catering
  • Buddhist rite of cedar-stick burning
  • Temple Hananoiwaya
  • Kirtan session

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Haneda Airport (HND) or Osaka International Airport (ITM). From Haneda Airport (HND), JAL operates multiple flights per day to Nanki-Shirahama Airport (SHM). The flight duration is 70 minutes. The regular one-way fare is around 35,000 JPY. However, discount tickets are usually available for around 17,000 to 20,000 JPY. From Osaka International Airport (ITM), you can also fly to Nanki-Shirahama Airport (SHM).

From Nanki-Shirahama Airport (SHM), you can take a taxi to Hisetsunotaki camping site, where deluxe cottages are, or take the Nankishirahama airport limousine towards Shirahama Eki station. From this station, you take the JR line to Shingu station. In Shingu station, you take a taxi that Yoga Retrets can help booking to Hisetsunotaki camping site.

Arrival by train

By train via Osaka

for the western Kii Peninsula, take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka (two and a half to three hours) and then a JR limited express onto the Kii Peninsula.

By train via Nagoya,

from Tokyo, you could take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, a trip of one and a half to two hours.

From Nagoya,

take the JR Nanki limited express train to the eastern side of Kii Peninsula. Go down on Shingu station (four hours from Shin-Osaka). From Shingu station, take a taxi that Yoga Retrets can help booking to Hisetsunotaki camping site.

Yoga Retrets fully recommends to get the rail pass before coming to Japan, that means almost all your trains they will be included with this pass.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
