Nestled far far away from the hustle and bustle of the world, Himmingbird Lodge is an invitation from your retreat accommodation hosts!

Hummingbird Lodge History

In 1998, John and Janice Raven designed and built the Hummingbird lLodge with their own hands, from the properties very own Gabriola trees. The lodge stands as a true work of art, a 6,000 square foot lodge on five amazing sprawling acres. In 2016, Tanya and Geoff Kuyten purchased the lodge and revamped it into a rustic yet modern chic retreat getaway with Tanya’s impeccable eye for eco-chic decor and creating beautiful, spacious spaces for deep rest, healing, and rejuvenation.

Amanda Ings: Tantra Yoga & Meditation & your hosts, Tanya & Geoff at the lodge, welcome you to truly kick your feet up, let your worries drift away and allow the peaceful tranquility of the island life to permeate your being. Up a quiet rural road, across the street from the ocean, come relax and refresh in the gardens with the resident deer and eagles, soak in the outdoor hot tub beneath the starlit night sky, or wander down to the beach to take in the magnificent colours of the sky morning and evening. Hummingbirds feed within mere feet of you on your own private deck. The lodge features over 2,000 square feet of tranquil nature vistas from both open and covered decks.

Come and let the rest of the world drift away! Hummingbird Lodge Bed and Breakfast offers the perfect answer to the much-desired getaway. Facing a wooded hillside, gorgeous rooms each include a full ensuite, a private furnished deck, private bathroom with a bathtub, toiletries, and towels, a comfy sofa bed, skylights in a 16-feet vaulted ceiling and a built-in desk with a picturesque-view window. Country lodge spaciousness with bed & breakfast luxury and intimacy... Surrounded by deer, otters, owls, raccoons, wild turkeys, bald eagles, numerous songbirds, ducks, and of course, hummingbirds! Welcome to a real true Canadian west coast paradise! Come soak up our warm, friendly atmosphere expressly designed for your privacy, relaxation, fun, and your rejuvenation in mind!

Sneak-a-peek into the daily practices during the retreat

Postural yoga (asana)

Fluid, organic, and embodied or somatic movement practices designed to increase your ability to feel and organize your energies (prana), stay deeply grounded and present in your body and sensations. Prepare your vessel to best harness the full expression and experience of consciousness and better hold Kundalini energy. Release deeply stored tensions in the body-mind so your energy and power can be better held and felt.

Meditation

Daily meditation practice and techniques for experiencing the mind as the base for authentic recognition of self and realizing your innate ability to harness your mind’s capacities and go beyond it without any mental strain or tension.

Building the light body (Viraja Homam)

A traditional tantric practice for what is referred to as the light body, upgrading this dense physical body and consciousness into a light body that will serve you in a great many ways. Amanda Ings: Tantra Yoga & Meditation will use a purification of the five elements and working with your highest guides, highest counsel, and deity connections for this transformational work.

Matrika Nyasa (mapping the light-sound matrix into the body)

A daily practice that deep-cleans the subtle body and your perceptual fields (using the individual petals of each chakra). It allows the energy body to hold and move Kundalini Shakti, using the mantra, the light-sound matrix (Sanskrit alphabet), and the tantric technology of Nyasa to anoint or map higher levels of energy and consciousness into your physical and subtle body.

This practice floods your energetic system with energy and light, Shakti energy and power. It is a profoundly beautiful practice! It is an introductory Shri Vidya Tantra practice, fundamental for strengthening the subtle body and developing a sensitivity towards feeling the energy and working with the mantra.

It is also an incredibly healing and useful practice for anyone who experiences any energy depletion due to a history of substance abuse or addiction, extreme emotional highs or lows, partially-risen kundalini movements, excessive travel, toxic environments and diet, and other taxing circumstances on one's energy system.

Devi Kavacham - the 'Armor of Protection of the Divine Mother'

"Devi" is the sovereign one, the mother, goddess - She who is filled with Light, directly translated. "Kavacham" is a placement of armor. This daily chant helps your nervous system and energy system to both assimilate and integrate all the various incoming energies from the outer world and develop a quality of energetic and psychic protection (which becomes a necessity due to the increased sensitivity and heightened sensory systems that often come hand-in-hand with consciousness work.)

It is one of the tantric tools you will use to stabilize the increasing levels of energy and awareness you will be building throughout the week. This practice is a good preparation for the psychic society and heightened states that you are all moving into, as well as offers a good protection and resilience for the increasingly noisy and mentally invasive world you now face daily.

It is also a beautiful devotion text for those who live in communion with Devi, the great goddess, or wish to cultivate a deeper relationship with this feminine principle of consciousness.

The stillness practices and embodying Shiva-consciousness

Meditation, mantra, and energy practices for embodying pure presence and stillness.

The power practices and working with Shakti

Mediation, mantra, and energy practices for embodying the goddess and experiencing your power and life force energy fully activated.

A taste tester of what else you will learn: Tantra Workshop Sessions

In addition to the daily yoga, meditation, and tantric practices at this retreat, you will also be getting a delicious sprinkling of rich workshop experiences designed to increase your embodiment of Shakti-power, build the presence, and the capacity to be a clear vessel to hold more light and awareness.

The Art of Embodiment

Embodiment is a tangible or visible form of an idea, quality, or feeling. The representation or expression of something in a tangible or visible form. Tantra yoga honors the integrity of embodiment, matter, sensation. To honor them is not to cling to them, but to embrace all three as intrinsically meaningful, not merely something to be tolerated, feared, or transcended. Once you accept embodiment, matter, and sensation as the ground of existence, spiritual practice is about learning what they can teach you. Tantra yoga is about how to live artfully in relation to all three.

Science of Mantra / Introduction to Sanskrit

The written script of Sanskrit, called 'Deva-Nagri'', literally translates as language (Nagri) of the gods (Deva). Discover the powers of this ancient vibrational language that holds within it the entire spectrum of the light-sound matrix of consciousness. Once you understand the science behind Sanskrit mantra, you discover how using this vibrational light-sound matrix for self-transformation and awakening is, quite literally, the equivalent of creating building blocks for deep alchemical change within your body-mind and consciousness.

The Importance of Energetic Boundary-ing

As your ability to hold power and energy increases, so too does your energetic sensitivity. Identify if, when and where you are losing energy or absorbing the energy of your surroundings unnecessarily (and quite possibly to your detriment). Learn practices that develop your ability to feel your energy and the energy of others or your environment, best attune your system to your energetic needs, protect yourself from unwanted incoming energies, and make your system more open and available to the healing and supportive energies around you.

Tandava, the Dance of Shiva:

A coiling, spiraling meditation-in-movement, an intimate, spontaneous dance with the internally arising movement of spanda, the cosmic impulse of life and a fundamental energetic aspect practiced within Tantra yoga.

A Tantric Journey Through the Chakras

A guided, sensorial meditation traveling through each of the energetic centers from a tantric and deeply experiential point-of-view.

Subtle Body Anatomy Discourse

Understand how the energetic matrices unfold within your subtle body, the main central nadis (energy-channels) and the chakras, and map out the inter-relationship between your actions, karmas (experiences) and desires, perceptual fields, and emotional experiences.
