Yoga style

The retreat welcomes all levels of practitioners. Whether we see ourselves as beginners or advanced in our practice, we all have something to learn. We provide both support and challenge to suit each individual's needs.

Modifications and variations will be given throughout all classes and there always will be two teachers in the morning classes, one leading the class and the other offering more personal attention and hands-on adjustments. This way, irrespective of experience, all students are supported in their practice.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a contemporary style of yoga where students move freely from one pose to another using the breath and no two classes are ever alike. It is sometimes referred to as flow yoga or power yoga. It offers variety and freedom to choose from many poses, thus being unpredictable and creative. You will enjoy morning Vinyasa Yoga classes every other morning. Beginners are supported and more advanced practitioners are challenged. In the afternoon we will practice yin, restorative and workshop style classes.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a precise set sequence, a dynamic form of yoga which produces heat in the body in order to purify it. Its main focus is on the breath and movement linking. It is considered a moving meditation as the students draw themselves inwards through the use of drishti, bandhas and breath.

It is not necessary for the participants to be familiar with the sequence – guided classes are also a great way to start Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga – where everyone breaths and moves together. You will practice Ashtanga every other morning.

Daily schedule

  • 90-minute Ashtanga or Vinyasa Flow yoga on alternate mornings, themed and thoughtfully planned
  • One 75-minute Restorative and one Yin yoga session in the afternoons
  • Two workshops exploring more technical and often misunderstood aspects of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga such as art of floating, transitions, jump back, jump through, arm balances, headstand, lotus prerequisites and preparation. There will also be space to meet the group’s specific needs.
  • One afternoon can be free for your self-practice. Teachers will still be available for you to ask any questions, maybe work with them on things you have seen in the classes and wish to explore.

Naxos is the largest and greenest island of the Cyclades. Apollo’s ancient temple welcomes you as the ferry reaches Naxos’ port. This is the perfect spot for a magical sunset.

Naxos is famous for its exotic beaches. Among the most famous ones are: Plaka, Agios Prokopios, Orkos, Mikri Vigla, Agia Anna, Panermos.

The villagers have their own fruits, vineyards, vegetables, fish, olive trees and the best potatoes in the whole Greece. Prepare yourself to have the most delicious local dishes.

Traditional villages, many hiking trails, and interesting historical sites will come your way. Naxos is also great for kitesurfing and windsurfing (west side of the island).

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Book your flight to arrive at Athens Airport (ATH). Alpha Yoga School suggests you arrive Athens the day before the retreat starts because the ferries to Naxos Island leaves at 7:25 a.m. on September 22. Use the opportunity and visit Acropolis and the old town of Plaka.

From Athens (ATH) airport, there is a regular bus (X95) which can connect you with the city center. The bus is available 24 hours, 7 days a week and it runs every 30-45 minutes.

From Athens city center, take the metro (green line) to Piraeus port. The walking distance from the train station to the ferry’s departure Gate is about 5-7 minutes. Then take the ferry at 7:25 a.m. from Piraeus port on September 22. Alpha Yoga School will also create a Facebook group for all participants and connect before the departure. This way, they can arrange to travel to Naxos together.
