As a result of the current situation in the world, Alpha Yoga School has decided to take their 200-hour yoga courses online. They are grateful that Yoga Alliance is now making an exception and allowing yoga schools to offer contact hours in a virtual format. This means that all sessions that would otherwise be in-person, can be taught virtually. Wherever you find yourself at this moment, using this time to emerge stronger and more conscious is something everyone can benefit from as a global community. Alpha Yoga School is working hard to provide you with timely tools and resources so that you can move forward with your practice and training.
This online yoga course is a foundational course designed for all levels of yogis. It is ideal for yoga students who wish to deepen their existing practice, want to learn how to teach yoga to others, and for yoga teachers wishing to expand their existing skills.
Alpha Yoga School welcomes “stiff” students, students suffering from an injury or other health challenges, and they encourage attendance! Pregnant women are also welcome after the second trimester. If you love learning, have a body, and can breathe – this training is for you.
Students who complete their training before December 31, 2020 are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).
This 200-hour online yoga course will follow the guidelines of the "normal" yoga teacher training courses. It will be a mix of high quality pre-recorded classes, downloadable manual, PDF notes, audio notes, slides, and live interactions with your instructors. The pre-recorded videos will be uploaded on the Podia platform and they can be taken at your own pace with options to re-watch as many times as you need.
You need at least 9 weeks in order to complete this course.
As soon as Alpha Yoga School receives your payment, you will receive joining instructions and immediate access to the whole content. This way you can register for the online courses any time and also have more time to plan your study schedule.
Live classes with the teachers will take place on Zoom on Thursdays. In case you cannot participate in the live sessions, you will get the opportunity to view these classes at your own time as they will all be recorded and uploaded on Podia. However, Alpha Yoga School does encourage all the students to take part in all the live sessions. Your teachers will be available for 30 live hours.
In order to successfully complete this course, you will have to teach a 45-minute Vinyasa flow class and complete the written exam which will be in questions and answers format on the online platform. In case you need more time to study for the final exams, you can take as much time as you need.
You will study with three experienced teachers, each one being an expert in his/her own field. Your certificate will be sent to you by mail, at your home address.
There is no daily schedule for this course and you are free to arrange your own schedule. There are recommendations in the email with the joining instructions, however, you make your own schedule (as long as you study). Live class hours will be limited to ensure you the most scheduling flexibility, meeting live with the teachers on Thursdays.
By the end of this online yoga course, you will obtain the skills, tools, and confidence to teach Vinyasa flow yoga. You will have many opportunities to teach yoga to your fellow students, giving and receiving constructive feedback from students and teachers.
At Alpha Yoga School, they strongly encourage each student to discover and develop her/his unique style and voice as a teacher. They do not create a monologue of how and what the teachers should say in their classes.
You will obtain a solid self-practice based on Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This ability will allow you to take your practice away from the studio and will enable you to practice on your own anytime, anywhere. You will be your own teacher. Isn't that great? To be able to practice on your own? Without having to drive half an hour to reach the studio?
The course focuses equally on four educational categories: asana practice, yoga philosophy and Ayurveda, functional anatomy, and teaching skills and the art of adjustments.
The asana curriculum is split between Ashtanga yoga and Vinyasa flow yoga. Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is a pre-set sequence of postures linked by the breath. Through the practice of breathing, postures (asanas), and gazing point (drishti), one slowly gains control of the senses and mind. Over time, with repeated practice and devotion, it unfolds into a moving meditation, awakening a sense of subtle awareness within. The mind becomes calmer, and slowly you are able to clear away the clutter. When this happens, the light of yoga begins to shine. This is the transformational beauty of the Ashtanga yoga practice.
Vinyasa flow yoga means flowing from one posture to another using breath. No two Vinyasa classes are alike. The morning Vinyasa classes are designed to complement the theory you cover in the "teaching skills and sequencing". In these classes, you will grow as a practitioner, deepen your practice and learn to work with your body in a more skillful and effective way.
In this module, you will learn essential sequencing principles in order to create your own Vinyasa flow classes. You will look at the difference between sequencing for beginners versus more experienced students.
You will cover the different types of Vinyasa classes such as well-rounded class and peak-pose class.

There will be lots of practical teaching, planning, guidance and feedback on how to improve and enhance all these teaching skills. You will observe, teach, and receive constructive feedback from your fellow students and your main teacher. You will also have to teach your friends at home.
In this module, you will examine yoga postures in terms of:
In these workshops, you break down complex postures like lotus, headstand, backbends, transitions, chaturanga dandasana, jump back and jump through, and inversions. Alpha Yoga School teaches baby pre-requisite steps that include preparation exercises, appropriate warm ups and requirements for the full expression of the posture. These classes will bring safety, awareness, and mindfulness to your practice and teaching.
You will explore functional yoga anatomy and how to safely deepen your practice through your body. You will learn about the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems through a comprehensive breakdown of the regions of the body most applicable to the practice.
Through practical application, you will investigate the different types of connective tissues, experience the movements of the joints, and connect with your fascial body. You will leave with a more profound understanding of your own and your students' body anatomy.
Yoga philosophy is interwoven throughout the course. You will explore what yoga really is; its meanings, significances, ethics, and practices in the past and present. You will investigate the roots of the practice; the Vedic tradition and its culture, myths, mantra chanting, bhandas, kriyas, and their meaning.
You then continue down the evolutionary paths of both classical and modern yoga practices. You will be introduced to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Bhagavad Gita, gaining insight on their commentaries. You will discuss how to integrate yoga philosophy into your every day life.
Ayurveda, the Vedic science of health and longevity, is intrinsically linked to the practice of yoga. These two sister sciences were developed together and traditionally are taught together. You will explore the foundations of this extraordinary holistic discipline while learning its basic principles of self-healing that can be applied both on and off the mat.
Joanna is the founder of Alpha Yoga School. Since 2009 she has completed 3 teacher training courses, 2 advanced courses, and numerous workshops with first-generation teachers of Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition: David Swenson, Eddie Stern, Chuck Miller, Kristina Karitinou, Rolf Naujokat, David Garrigues, Manju Jois, Regina Ehlers, Laruga Glaser, and Noah Maze. She is funny, caring, inspiring and gives full attention to her students. She will take your practice to the next level with precise verbal cues and amazing hands-on adjustments. Joanna has taught in more than 20 yoga teacher training courses.
Martin is the founder of Alpha Yoga School. He started his yoga experience in 2007 once he realized that it brings him peace, relaxation, and a healthy balance to his stressful corporate lifestyle of then. He has completed 3 200-hour yoga teacher trainings. In 2018 he completed a 40-hour Teacher Training Course with David Swenson. He has a great sense of humor and in his classes, you will not only learn but also laugh. He facilitates, encourages, and inspires his students with his devotion and knowledge. You will get Ashtanga classes with him, alignment, hands-on adjustments, and workshops.
Laura was drawn to yoga and movement at a young age. Over time, and through experimentation with various styles of yoga, her practice blossomed beyond the physical, becoming an all-encompassing, spiritual discipline and expanding it off the mat to more traditional forms of yoga including Bhakti, Nada, Kriya, Raja, Jnana, and Karma. She has completed more than 800 hours in teacher training courses. She is grateful to share this passion with others teaching Yoga Philosophy, Ayurveda, Guided Meditation, Anatomy, Myofascial Release, and Yoga Asana. She has taught in more than 17 yoga courses.
This teacher training is held online. Alpha Yoga School is located in Athens, Greece and the online sessions will be held according to Central European Summer Time (CEST) timezone. They will live-stream yoga classes via Zoom every Thursday which you can participate from the comfort of your home. The videos are recorded and can be watched as many times as you need.
