The guest rooms and community rooms in the Alpen Retreat are lovingly designed. Each room has a special theme, mostly chosen from the different countries the Alpen Retreat team has visited on their travels.

The mixture of international ambiance and traditional Tyrolean charm creates a particularly beautiful and homey atmosphere. Lounging out on your room side terrace overlooking the Fern Pass valley and adjacent Zugspitz arena, you can enjoy year-round sunshine, thanks to Alpen Retreat's southward facing position.

After a day spent on the slopes or hiking through Alpine forests, you will be able to relax in the traditional “stube” with gorgeous wood paneling and traditional farmers “kachel” stove. If you wish to experience tranquility on a whole new level, you can take advantage of Alpen Retreat's yoga and meditation sessions as well as the nearby spas.

During your stay, you are very welcome to use the community rooms in the Alpen Retreat, such as the traditional Tyrolean stube (living room), the dining room, the library, and the yoga hall.

On four days of this week, according to weather, the abilities and wishes of the group, the fitting ski resort will be picked. The joy that you feel during winter sport, on a ski, snowboards, or cross-country skiing, is even enhanced through the meditative and balanced yoga practice that you do. On the other days, the afternoon is free for your own adventures.

The yoga session always starts with a short block of theory where the basics of a traditional yoga practice are explained. You will practice meditation, Hatha yoga, pranayama, and deep relaxation. These tools help you to discover a new awareness of body, mind, and emotions. A short sentence describes very well the motto of the yoga that you do together: It is not important to touch your toes in yoga but what you learn on the way down.

Because of that, this yoga style is equally applicable for beginners or advanced practitioners. Everybody decides for them self how deep they want to go in there practice. Of course, the effects of yoga are equally strengthening and balancing for the entire body, the skeleton, the muscles, the respiratory, and the nervous system. A perfect preparation for a lighthearted day in the snow.

In the later afternoon, you integrate the experiences of the day, relax the muscles, and mind with a very chilled out yoga session. After dinner, you have the choice either to see an interesting documentary or just enjoy yourself.

Questions and different subjects asked by the participants can be integrated into the course if it is aligned with the group. The goal of the course is that in the end, you will be able to make up your own yoga program which you can then practice at home on your own.

    Jan’s journey on the yoga path began in 2003 with doing daily Hatha yoga on his own. Within the next four years, he studied more than 700 hours of courses and training in yoga-related subjects and practices. Since the year 2009, Jan participated in a number of Buddhist Vipassana courses from the Satipatthana tradition. For over five years, Jan’s main spiritual practice has been dedicated to Tantra and Kundalini under the guidance of Sri Guruji Rajkumar Baswar.

You will live in the yoga resort Alpen Retreat at the Fern Pass, Tyrol (1,200 meters) close to the Austrian and German border. Surrounded by nature and mountains, the Alpen Retreat is the ideal place for yoga, meditation, and your ultimate winter holiday.

Ski resorts

On the close by slopes of the Zugspitzarena, you will find fun for all skill levels. Powder runs, fun parks, sledding, cross-country skiing, or ice skating, there is certainly something there for you. The Alpen Retreat is located in the Zugspitzarena and is there for only 15 minutes away from 148 kilometers of slopes and 55 ski lifts spread out in many different and various ski resorts.

Lermoos (15 minutes), Ehrwald (15 minutes), Biberwier (5 minutes), Berwang (15 minutes), and the Zugspitze (25 minutes) are the closest ski resorts. The ski resort on the Zugspitze itself guarantees snow because of its altitude.

Driving directions from Fernpassstrasse B179 (E532)

  • At the top of the Fernpass (Fernpasshöhe) there is a petrol station named Dolle.
  • Opposite of Dolle, on the other side of the street, is a roadside restaurant (Fernpaß Rast), a red building, and a big yellow building (the former Fernpass hotel).
  • Follow the small street between the restaurant and the yellow house for about 200 meters and you have reached the Alpen Retreat.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Innsbruck Airport (INN), Memmingen Airport (FMM), or Airport Munich (MUC). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. From Innsbruck Airport (INN), take the bus line F at the airport to the main train station in Innsbruck (Innsbrucker Hauptbahnhof), from there take the "regional bus" directly to the bus station "Nassereith Postplatz" or "Hotel Fernpasshöhe" which is approximately one hour and 10 minutes.

From Memmingen Airport (FMM), take the bus to the Memmingen Train Station. From there, you can take a train to Lermoos via Kempten and Reutte. From Airport Munich (MUC), go via train to Munich main train station (München Hauptbahnhof). From there, take the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and onward to Lermoos or Ehrwald.
