Itinerary: Elements heart medicine

Ancient Alchemists, like their Yogi counterparts, saw all of creation as composed of Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. Through their meditations and explorations of these five elements, they created healing and transformative potions that unlocked many of the mysteries of the universe and therein contributed to the evolution of humankind.

For us as Alchemist Yogis, our laboratory is our mat and the ingredients are our bodies, poses, breath, and thoughts. Mixing it altogether changes your life. You are transformed stoking a Happiness Revolution and changing the world!

  • Earth: To manifest our desires we must have strong roots within ourselves, (Day 1 and 2).
  • Water: We tap into our limitless potential to create our dreams and desires, (Day 3 and 4).
  • Fire: We ignite the fire of our burning desires and dreams through action, (Day 5).
  • Air: Our inner wisdom becomes available to us when we open the heart and surrender to love, gently releasing what is no longer in alignment with our hearts, (Day 6).
  • Ether: Communicating to the universe our wisdom learned from the heart with clarity and truth. To open the heart and surrender to love we must have a strong knowledge of our truth. We surrender to the guidance of our inner wisdom and know that all the answers we seek lie within us. We become the embodiment of the Divine, a unique expression of consciousness, dwelling in our natural alchemy of love and peace, (Day 7-8).

Retreat location

Ischia is a volcanic island in the Bay of Naples on the mid-southeastern coast of Italy. Located 30km from Naples mainland, it measures just 34km in diameter and is profiled by Mount Epomeo peaking at 788 meters above the sea. Historically, the island has been inhabited by the Greeks, Syrausansa, Romans, Heruli, Ostrogoths, Byzantines, Normans, Saracens, Turks, and Aragonese, and plenty of ruins remain to suggest the lineages of these colonies. With its wonderful climate, nice location from the mainland, and richness of therapeutic hot-springs, it’s not hard to see why it was a landscape worth fighting over!

Nicknamed the “Green Island”, Ischia was one of the world’s first health spa destinations. For centuries people have flocked to Ischia to indulge in its volcanic muds and waters rich with healthful minerals. Doctors even prescribe stays here to reap the benefits of bathing in the healing springs. In addition to all its natural wonders, one of the most appealing things about Ischia is the hospitality of the people themselves. You’re sure to enjoy the island’s welcome and relaxed way of life while during your stay.

Not only will you enjoy the grounds with the sundecks, terraces, gardens, thermal pools, and yoga space, but the retreat also includes carefully-planned day-trips to offer guests a full experience of Ischia. The island is full of various natural wonders, from a dormant volcano, lush gardens, and rich agriculture, to thermal spas, clear beaches, ancient ruins, and endless views across the Bay of Naples.

We will visit the village of Ischia Ponte for a visit to the picturesque Castello Aragonese and artisanal shopping in Ischia Porto. Look for the famous thermal mud bath treatments, rucolino liquors, lemon candies, or the handmade sandals. A day will include a water taxi ride to the natural thermal seaside cave of Baia di Sorgeto. We’ll also visit one of Ischia’s popular thermal spa parks where you can hop from pool to thermal pool experiencing various temperatures, ancient therapy techniques, and opt for some treatments like a massage or facial.

Things to do (optional)

Ischia Ponte

The ancient village of Ischia Ponte, also called Village of Celsa for the presence of mulberries, is an ancient village of sailors and fishermen, dating back to the 18th century. Since then Ischia Ponte has been considered the richest and most prosperous municipality on the island. For sure we will visit the famous via Roma and Corso Vittoria Colonna and the beautiful Cathedral of Assunta, built in 1301 and remodeled in 1700. The crypt, decorated with frescoes of Giotto’s school, still preserves the remains of the noble families of the island.

Ischia Sant’Angelo – Oasis of Peace and Wellness

Sant’Angelo Ischia, a small fishing village South of the island of Ischia has always had a unique charm because of its combined characteristics of “pristine and primeval.” Key sights include the Tower and the old center which starts from the small square with a bunch of old houses partially restored, that open up like a fan.

Sant’Angelo d’Ischia is actually a rock connected to the rest of the island by a thin isthmus and testimony of the island’s volcanic nature. At the top of the islet called the “Tower” once stood a small church where St. Michael, the guardian angel who gave his name appeared in the village.

Past the church, you will find Quarry Petrelle where you can cook an egg in less than a minute on the stones. Sant’Angelo d’Ischia is one of the favorite destinations because of its gardens, spas, and outdoor restaurants that have maintained the beautiful scenery and above all peace and tranquility, not to mention the beautiful boutiques that offer top quality fashion. This area is also rich in thermal springs and offers beautiful beaches, including that of the fumaroles.

Sorgeto

Sorgeto is an islet situated in the municipality of Forio, and home to a truly natural thermal park in the open air. Mineral springs, sauna, and therapeutical vapors are one of Mother Nature’s greatest gifts to the island of Ischia.

Reachable via sea by taxi boat or by going down 200 stairs from the suburb of Panza, it’s a delight to immerse oneself into that mix of warm-cool water with the most amazing sunsets you can imagine. One of the most charming characteristics of Sorgeto is having a bath here at the night, in the warm waters beneath a starry sky. You can relax and spend unforgettable moments!

Mount Epomeo

In Italian: pronounced “Monte Epomeo” is the highest mountain on the volcanic island of Ischia, in the Gulf of Naples, Italy. Reaching a height of 789 meters (2,589 ft), it towers above the rest of Ischia. Much of Epomeo is covered in lush greenery, with a few vineyards also occupying its slopes. Approximately 75 meters (246 ft) from the peak the mountain is covered in white lava. A path leads to the summit of the mountain from Fontana, a quiet traditional village.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Once you arrive in Naples, you will be transported from the airport or the train station all the way to Il Giardino del Nonno on Ischia. You will have a private driver pick you up by taxi, then a ferry ticket is already purchased for you from Naples to Ischia for the one hour ride under the sun. Upon arriving at Ischia Porto town, a taxi will wait for you and take you to Sant’Angelo, your home on the island.

Once you arrive at this gorgeous sea town with little pink houses, you will be transferred to an “electric car” which looks like a golf cart to take you and your luggage. In the final step, you will be rewarded with a 360 degree breath-taking views of the island as well as a view of Capri.

Arrival by car

If you are coming on your own, here is how to get to the Island: Upon arriving in Naples at the train station or airport, ask the taxi driver to the dock of Molo Beverello. Just simply ask your driver “Molo Beverello?” and they know where to go, that is a very popular port.

You will be driving alongside the port past many docks before arriving at Molo Beverello, which is located where the portside boulevard changes names from Via C. Colombo to Via Acton, right in front of the imposing Castel Nuovo castle. Ferries run less than every hour to Ischia this time of year. Take the ferry to Ischia Porto, you can also take a hydrofoil which is 9 EUR more but saves 30 minutes.
