Program

The yoga retreat begins with a warm and heartfelt welcome from a Vedic Pandit who conducts a traditional Hindu opening ceremony around the fire (Havan).

You will be guided to a complete farm visit where you will have the chance to understand the concept of sustainability and you will watch live the daal production (orange lentils).

Each day, you will have the opportunity to participate in various yoga classes, cleansing techniques, workshops, and meditation techniques, helping you discover a deeper connection with your body, breath, and mind. Equally enriching is the path of Karma yoga, in the form of volunteer work in the school's garden.

Akshara Yoga School - a modern ashram is situated on a 70-acre sustainable farm in a village in Northern India, very close to the Nepal border, untouched by tourism.

The ashram is nestled among rice paddies and over 400 trees. Imagine yourself in a lush environment with exotic flowers, tropical fruits, and vibrant energy.

Amidst the mysterious charm of chaotic India, Akshara Yoga School serves as a tranquil oasis. It is a modern, high-vibration Ashram for those seeking inner peace and holistic well-being.

This yoga vacation will take place at Akshara Yoga School in Pilibhit, India. Pilibhit is located on the sub-Himalayan plateau in the foothills of Shivalik range. Because of its geographical advantage, Pilibhit district is home to rich forests and water bodies. It has several scenic places which can be perfect gateways for outings.

Food

Akshara Yoga School is a unique place where healthy and pure vegetarian organic food is served daily to all yoga school residents. A light and balanced vegetarian diet is considered conducive for yoga practice according to Haṭha yoga.

Cereals and vegetables are grown organically on their own farm and served fresh. The school has many orchards for seasonal supplies of fruits as well.

Things to do (optional)

Among your practices, you will have ample time to explore the surrounding area and its rich cultural heritage. You will have the opportunity to explore a unique, untouched corner of India, where you will be the only Westerner.

Despite this, you will be welcomed and treated like a local, offering you an authentic and immersive experience:

  • Visit the ancient Nanakmatta Gurudwara, one of the most important Sikh temples and a center of the Siddh Yogis of Gorakhnath until the 15th century AD
  • Excursion to the Kali River and yoga practice by its serene waters. Its sources are at an altitude of 3,600 meters, forming natural borders with Nepal
  • Jungle exploration with a safari through enchanting landscapes in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. If you're lucky, you might even spot a tiger (The entrance fee of the tiger reserve is not included)
  • Visit the local village markets with a Rickshaw ride, offering the chance to interact with locals and learn about their culture
  • Live Indian cooking in the school's garden
