Combining movement, stillness, deep thought and free expression we will embark on a week-long healing retreat in the countryside of Transylvania. Our days will include two Hatha yoga and meditation sessions juxtaposed with poetry, mantra chanting, and music. Focusing on enabling our true voices to blossom, an emphasis is given to tuning into subtle energy frequencies and becoming more aware of the chakra system.
The maximum participants in the group is 18.
During this retreat, you will stay at Akasha Retreat. Its large open lounge and diner allow all guests, teachers, and friends to come together and socialize, laugh, play, and explore creative pursuits together. The gorgeous mountain views, garden, and terraces are the kindest gift nature has given them, and they in return offer them to you. Each of the guest bedrooms is special and has handmade decorative items, a blend of modern romantic with natural elements from the environment.
Twin sharing bedrooms are for two guests sharing one room. Some of the twin bedrooms have private balconies and all enjoy beautiful mountain views. Private double rooms can be booked for single use if you prefer to have your own bedroom or for double occupancy if you decide to bring a partner or a friend along.

There is something different about asana practice when one's eyes are closed. There is no room for distraction, no room for comparison or communication. We become gifted with the present moment. Each morning and evening we will meet on our yoga mats to find a balance between movement and stillness.
Our teacher, Abby Dixon shares a self-adapted version of classical Hatha Yoga, inspired by Hridaya, Sivananda, and Agama traditions.
The focus is to find a space of tranquility within while activating and energizing different muscles and energy points in the body. Using the chakra system to guide yogis through their practice brings another element into the sequence, and allows for deeper exploration of these subtle energy wheels.
Drawing attention to the breath, especially during awareness phases brings yogis more in tune with their lung capacity, and its common underuse. Through breath, we are able to eliminate more toxins than through any other method of excretion.
We explore breath and its ability to cleanse and heal through pranayama practice, too. Holding postures for extended periods of time, allows the body to become more subtle and flexible without risking injury.
The states of stillness cultivated during these periods resting in posture, deepen our states of consciousness and allow for each seat to become a meditation position. Yoga is more than a workout. It makes you realize that when you surrender and when you find stillness, strength follows. This strength cultivated is both mental and physical, bringing harmony and balance to our existence.
Music is magic. We will finish each yoga practice with a mantra, and there will be many opportunities throughout the week to sing sacred songs from all over the world.
Every morning until breakfast time and one full morning until noon, you will practice a silent retreat. This is a powerful tool to connect with yourself, pick a good book, and explore the true benefits of being on retreat. This is your time.
Gong bath is a therapeutic recital of sacred sounds and a meditation guided by the sound of the gong and Tibetan and crystal bowls. The planetary gongs used during the concert are Venus gong and Earth Platonic gong, played together they unify the greatest love.

Irina has a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certificate after studying Ashtanga yoga at Kranti Yoga School in Patnem, India, and teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa and modified Ashtanga classes. From practicing yoga on the beach in Goa to remote villages in Cambodia, to traditional ashrams and discovering Ayurveda in Kerala, to meditation with Buddhist monks in Tibet and hiking the Himalayas, Irina's journey inspired her to see beyond what she has always known of yoga as the physical practice but that of an integrated lifestyle.
This retreat will be held in Pestera Village. The village is called Pestera and it means "the cave" in Romanian, named after a beautiful bat cave located approximately 100 meters from the center. During this retreat, you will be served three organic vegan and vegetarian daily meals. Upon booking your retreat, you will be asked for your diet preferences and Akasha Wellness Retreat can cater for special diets such as lactose or gluten intolerant. All meals are at set times in the dining area and are shared among all guests and teachers.

From the airport, you may take the train that goes straight to Brasov railway station. Akasha facilitates pick up from Brasov city on the day of arrival at the retreat for those that would anticipate arriving early. Akasha can also help you with trains or taxis from the airport to Brasov or to the retreat.
Direct Aeroport has a regular shuttle service from the airport to Brasov (Aro Palace station) and the cost is 80 RON, approximately 17.50 EUR one way.
Akasha Wellness Retreat can organize a private taxi transport from either Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) or Sibiu International Airport (SBZ) to Akasha. The cost is 85 EUR for a small car (up to three people) or 120 EUR for a large car (up to eight people) one way.
The journey takes about two and a half hours and you can pay when you arrive at Akasha. If you would like a private transport, please let Akasha Wellness Retreat know your flight number, origin of flight, time of landing. The driver will wait for you at arrivals with your name on the board.
In some cases, Akasha Wellness Retreat is able to couple arrivals together so you can share the same car with other participants on the same retreat, this is a case by case only as long as arrivals are all within a short time frame of each other. If this is the case, they will let you know once they have everyone's arrival details.
