A transformational journey through the 5 elements

Knowledge of the five elements is an essential part of going deeper into the practice of yoga, as the elements form not only the world you live in but the structure of your own body and mind. By understanding the laws of nature, you can learn to find balance within yourself. This balance brings you into harmony with your surrounding environment, creating a higher state of consciousness, physical health, and vitality.

The Five Elements

Fire

Fire element (agni) in Ayurveda is the element that powers capacity for digestion. Everything you encounter, from food to thoughts and emotions, has to be digested and transformed in order to nourish you. It is the element connected to the Manipura (solar plexus) chakra, which is your energy center of self-confidence, inner strength, power, and determination.

Through working with this element in yoga, you can increase your strength and determination, cultivating a drive to achieve goals as well as the power to digest and transform what is no longer serving you.

Water

Water element (apah, jalan) is not only the water that flows through your circulatory system but your fluid transition from movement to movement in yoga. This translates into the ability to move fluidly through life with ease and grace, unobstructed by obstacles or rigid patterns and beliefs.

It is the element of your Swadhistana (sacral) chakra, which is the center of your emotions, femininity, and connection to sensual energy. Through working with this element, you learn to create fluidity in your practice as well as your daily life, opening space for creativity to thrive.

Earth

Earth element (prithvi) refers to your connection with mother earth, the place where the raw elements once came from. This element is connected to the Muladhara (root) chakra which is the energy center associated with grounding, stability, and security.

Through working with this element, you are able to tap into your primal and instinctive nature, cultivating a stable foundation from which spiritual growth can develop.

Air

Air element (vayu) refers to the breath and space in the body. The breath is the basis of all yoga and it is the air element that carries this vital energy or “Prana” throughout the body and the universe.

You can work with this element in yoga through breathing techniques and by creating space in the body, thus allowing Prana to flow freely, clearing away physical and emotional blockages. It is the element connected to your Anahata (heart) chakra which is your center for connection and compassion, creating space for you to express unconditional love for yourself and all beings.

Space

Space element (akasha) is your connection to the higher spiritual chakras. As you progress in your yoga practice, you become increasingly conscious. Conscious of your true self, your connection, and honesty with your body thought patterns, and motivations. When the space element is balanced, you feel more connected to your subtle energetic body, mind, and emotions, transcending you to a higher state of awareness.

Daily program

Each day, you will journey through one of the elements with a morning Vinyasa and an evening Restorative flow. Daily classes will also be accompanied by workshops including Acro yoga, arm balances / inversions, myofascial release, sound healing, and yoga Nidra.

Classes will not focus solely on physical asana, but also philosophy, pranayama, and various forms of meditation to transform you on a deeper energetic level.
