The accommodation options are on private, double, and triple room basis. AHKI Retreat is an intimate yet spacious facility. Infused with simple elegance, the two large cabinas, just a short walk down from the main house, offer six, sizable, guest rooms that can accommodate up to three people per room. All rooms have ceiling fans, large windows and doors, as well as plenty of overhead ventilation for optimal airflow.

Each room has a private bath with a large, unique, and luxurious indoor or outdoor shower, and patios and decks that command stellar views of the mountains and valleys. These are not your typical cabinas. The rooms all have fine linens, American style on-demand heaters for reliable, safe, and environmentally friendly hot water, handcrafted Costa Rican hardwood furniture made by local artisans, a closet full of yoga mats and props, and offers daily housekeeping.

The fire circle

Celebrate the divine eternal connection that allows people to know themselves, and in turn, understand and relate to others in the deepest sense, for this is the space from which true compassion is born.

The library

Whether you are curling up with a book, sharing in a board game, watching a video, or enjoying an intimate chat with a new friend, you will no doubt slip into the home-away-from-home vibe. AHKI Retreat always set out a bowl of fresh fruit and a variety of teas after dinner for your evening enjoyment. Of all the many nooks and crannies to sink into, and as hard as it is to choose, many people have said that the library is their favorite spot.

The pool

AHKI Retreat's pool is spectacular. Whether sitting in contemplation on one of the nearby daybeds or floating under the stars, you will find the infinity edge, saltwater swimming or reflecting pool a grounding and nurturing experience.

The studio

What is so unique about AHKI Retreat is that it is a truly sacred space, built specifically according to the ancient science of Vastu Shastra, the yoga of space, invoking peace, wellness, and harmony with the environment as well as within oneself. The studio does not fall short with its breathtaking views, warm breeze, and inviting ambiance.

The 750 square feet covered and open-air studio overlooks the ocean, mountains, and valleys, as well as the beautifully landscaped courtyard and mountainside infinity pool. A teak wood floor, with planetary gemstones intentionally placed beneath to connect the above to the below, offers a forgiving surface for all kinds of bodies and practices, and the closet is filled with mats, blocks, blankets, straps, sandbags, and bolsters.

On the rare days when the natural breezes are quiet in the mountains, two large ceiling fans are more than equipped to do the job. This sacred space is adorned with a special altar on the north end to invoke the energies of abundance and prosperity in health, wealth, happiness, love, peace, and beauty. When not engaged in practice or training, kick back and enjoy a fresh smoothie from the kitchen in one of the hammock chairs.

During this retreat, you will learn the depth of ancient tools and techniques and experience practices that cultivate fire or agni as a transformative force, while unleashing your courage and capacity to express yourself fully in the world. You will cultivate a relationship with your own personal fire, learn how to contain and maintain it, and how to utilize its power to fully embody both spiritual and material potential in your life.

You will have two yoga classes daily. Your time will also include a preparation and participation in an external Tantric fire ritual to further your connection to that which abides within.

The retreat will be held in AHKI Retreat, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The beautiful country of Costa Rica rests between two continents and two oceans, the central point linking the North and South Americas, bordering Nicaragua in the north and Panama in the south.

The east coast meets the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean lines the west with an abundance of lush tropical rain forests, mountains, volcanoes, white water rivers, and waterfalls in between. It is no wonder the makers of Jurassic Park chose Costa Rica for their story location. The Nicoya Peninsula has been named one of the five blue zones in the world, where people are said to live the longest and healthiest lives.

In AHKI Retreat's amply stocked kitchen, the experienced staff cooks solely for the retreat guests, enabling them to take into consideration your individual dietary needs, making the appropriate modifications and adjustments. All meals are served in the lovely open-air dining room with a grand vista of the gardens, pool, mountains, and sea.

Your day will begin with a self-serving feast of fresh fruits, home-made and organic yogurt from fresh, local raw milk, locally baked breads, home-made granola, gluten-free pancakes, as well as gallo pinto, a Costa Rican traditional dish of rice and beans, and fresh local, organic eggs served up in creative varieties. You will never get bored with your food.

The healthy and delicious lunches and dinners are served sit-down style and carefully planned to be climate appropriate. You will never feel weighed down from food or too heavy for the Costa Rica climate and most certainly you will leave the table satiated.

Every year has continued to exceed my expectations -- from the lovely meals to the retreat space itself, every detail has been thoughtfully and carefully crafted. The owner and her staff are ever so friendly doing anything to contribute to the healing quality of the experience. Although excursions are offered, there is no need to ever leave. Everything you could want or need is here. -- Deepest Thanks to Karen and her team for creating this retreat experience!"

"I was here for a yoga retreat. What an amazing place - the food, the arrangements, the location are truly magical. The only thing I would warn on is that if you get car sick, take a Dramamine before the drive, it is unpaved."

"Ahki is not your run of the mill B&B, but a beautiful architecturally designed and landscaped property up in the hills behind Garza Beach, an easy 15 minute drive to Guiones Beach. All buildings on the property showcase a sophisticated CR and Asian flair and the rooms are stylish, spacious, and comfortable. Fantastic breakfasts and dinners available as an extra (if you do not fancy the drive into town). It would be very easy to not leave the property and give into rest and relaxation - that said, there are many beautiful attractions near at hand. The pool area is spectacular and there is a beautiful yoga space. No Wi-Fi in the rooms, but available poolside. Wonderful tree specimens and landscaping abound, and yes, nature as well - that means the sound and occasionally sight of monkeys, hummingbirds, frogs, and various critters, who we share this space (the jungle) with. I appreciate the ethics of Ahki in not laying poisons out to eradicate these harmless indigenous locals, and accordingly, it's possible you may see a few critters around the property - but nothing of concern. The only caution is for those with mobility issues. The rooms are a few minutes walk down stairs and terraces from the main house and this may not suit elderly or mobility impaired persons. You should also be prepared for a steep gravel driveway (but this is not uncommon in Costa Rica) - I would strongly recommend a car for independence - but it's not absolutely necessary. There were during my stay a range of couples coming through the property and a few single people as well. Everyone had space for privacy and the shared breakfast spaces etc allowed for gentle interactions. Finally, no review of Ahki could be complete without recognizing the great efforts and energy of the owner, Karen, who is a wonderful person and personality, ever present, always interested in the well being and enjoyment of guests. This is very much Karen's home and a testament to her taste and interest in the environment and sustainability."
