Day 1: Welcome to Nairobi

Adventure Out Loud will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel where you can spend the day relaxing or if you’re feeling energetic, you can jump straight into the action with a rejuvenating yoga session and a walk through the Karura Forest in search for Nairobi’s elusive monkeys.

Day 2: Giraffes, baby elephants, and the inspirational Tommy Nyawir

After morning yoga, head toward the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Nairobi Giraffe Centre. This is your chance to get up-close-and-personal to these incredible animals. If you’re lucky, you might even get a kiss from Ed the giraffe. After lunch, be inspired by Tommy Nyawir and the heart-warming Mirror of Hope, a community-based organization empowering vulnerable children living in Africa’s largest slum by keeping them in school.

Day 3: Kibera immersion

Today, Gena will lead a mindful meditation in preparation for a day exploring the sights and sounds of Africa’s largest slum. Visit the home of your sponsor student, meet their family, and feast on a delicious Kenyan lunch that you’ll learn to cook. This will be one of the most immersive, connecting experiences of your life and it is a great chance to learn about Kenyan culture, practice your Swahili, and meet some incredibly resilient people.

Day 4: Masai Mara

Hello Masai Mara! One of Africa’s best safari destinations, the Mara is home to Africa’s most exotic safari animals. It is also home to the greatest show on earth, the Great Migration, a natural spectacle like no other. After your first exciting safari drive, head towards the secluded luxury wildlife camp, arriving in time for a warm shower and relaxing evening around the open fire.

Day 5: Safari

Up early, begin your search for Africa’s greatest predators, who are also on the hunt for a nutritious wildebeest breakfast. You can also expect to see many of the other exotic African animals today and if you are lucky, you might even spot a rhino. With so much morning excitement, your body will be craving a deep stretch, a little meditation, and a thorough reconnection. If only you had a yoga instructor; hello Gena!

Day 6: Why did the wildebeest cross the river?

Each year a million wildebeest brave the Mara River’s crocodile-infested waters in their search for greener grass. This is the greatest natural spectacle on earth and although it is dependent on annual timing, this region offers fantastic wildlife viewing all-year-around. In the afternoon, return for yoga and another relaxing evening swapping stories around the open fire.

Day 7: Big 5 adventure

Today, search for the Big 5 (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino). While it is common to see some of these animals, finding all five can be a challenge so make sure you bring your binos and a keen pair of eyes. After lunch, Gena will lead another yoga or meditation session before you enjoy your final night in the magical Masai Mara.

Day 8: Travel to Nairobi

After a final morning game drive, make your way back to the bright lights of Nairobi. This will be your final night in Africa and the perfect occasion to celebrate with new friends who have shared in this unforgettable, enriching, and rejuvenating journey.

Day 9: Transfer to Kigali, Rwanda

Spend the day packing, relaxing, or meditating with Gena before boarding your flight to Kigali, Rwanda to begin your gorilla adventure.

Day 10: Genocide Memorial (optional)

Between April 7 and July 15, 1994, 1 million Tutsis lost their lives in one of the worst genocides in history. This morning is your chance to learn from this tragedy and to pay your respects to those who lost their lives. Afternoon transfer to Mutanda Lake Resort, Uganda.

Day 11: Gorilla trekking

Mountain gorillas live in forests at elevations of 2,000 to 4,000 meters. They have thicker fur than other great apes which helps them to survive in a habitat where temperatures often drop below freezing. There are approximately 1,000 of these fascinating creatures left in the world and Bwindi National Park in Uganda is home to about 400 of them. Today is your chance to trek with one of the most unique animals on the planet.

Day 12: Make your own adventure

Today is your chance to make your own adventure. Swin in Mutanda Lake, trek with golden monkeys, spend another day with the gorillas, practice yoga with Gena, or simply relax with a bottle of red.

Day 13: Transfer to Kigali, Rwanda

Free morning to pack, practice yoga, and make the most of the picturesque surroundings you find yourself in before heading to Kigali for your final evening in Africa.

Day 14: End of tour

Begin your journey home with a lifetime of unforgettable memories and stories to share for the rest of your life.

Is Kenya safe?

Yes, Kenyans love visitors and most will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. It is extremely rare for anything bad to happen within Kenya’s national parks and you will not be traveling to the border regions where the Australian Government advises not to travel. As with all travel, your biggest risk is being robbed or having a road accident. Traveling in a small group, avoiding popular tourist areas, traveling with reputable companies, and having experienced tour leaders and local teams with you 24/7 significantly reduces these risks.
