Absolute Sanctuary is a great place to stay at if you are considering a vacation to relax and rejuvenate and get your health on the right track. You can participate in yoga classes, Pilates or do your own workout at the small but fully equipped gym. The Love Kitchen provides a wide range of healthy choices. You can detox or just eat healthy. I loved Absolute Sanctuary and would definitely go there again.

I booked a modified detox course and additional days to allow myself time to really take advantage of all the good things I had done to my body and mind. The accommodation is fantastic and I was lucky to be upgraded to a wonderful room with huge bath and lounge area for my stay. The restaurant is outstanding, some of the best food I've eaten anywhere and given it was raw and all natural is amazing. Love restaurant really does rock. The juices and the pampering were another fantastic treat. Massages were excellent, the spa itself beautiful and the staff super friendly and skilled. The modified detox is less strict and doesn't have as many colonist and this suited me very well as I was new to detoxing. It was wonderfully quiet and largely when I was there female which I very much appreciated as the environment was non threatening and warm and as a solo traveler this was a great experience. I will be going back. If there is only one change to be made, it would be to have a slightly more receptive staff at reception and someone who can liaise between the spa, restaurant and other elements of the resort. I spoke with the staff about this and they were very receptive. Look forward to coming back.

I travel a lot, and have never felt compelled to write a review of a hotel until now. I have stayed at Absolute Sanctuary several times, and it really is an absolute sanctuary. I go there (normally last minute) when I am feeling stressed, over tied and need to relax and detox. I also use it as a work vacation often when I need to focus on getting work done, as after a few days there, you are feeling great and very focused. The detox drinks are great and there is a wide selection of fruit and vegetable detox drinks, much better than others I have have tried in Koh Samui. The detox packages include massages (which are consistently good) and colonics, pilates and yoga. The staff are all very experienced and friendly and its always a relaxing experience.
The program is very flexible, you get to choose your schedule, and its perfect for someone like me who is wanting to do my own thing and not be forced into group activities like other places. Although I have always traveled there alone, it would be fine to bring a spouse or friend who isn't detoxing as there is a restaurant that serves delicious yet healthy meals. Additionally, the grounds are very spacious, so even when I have visited over peak time at Christmas it never feels crowded. Its not located on the beach, however the pool area is so lovely that this isn't an issue for me. In summary, I highly recommend Absolute Sanctuary, the whole experience is extremely good value for money compared to similar places in Asia and the US (that don't offer the same results) and I always return feeling refreshed and glowing and with a renewed zest for life.
I recently visited Absolute for a 7 day Be Fit program. After a stressful year of health issues, this was my get-away to relax, re-charge and kick-start my fitness journey.
The hotel itself is a little dated, but the rooms were spacious and clean, and were of a good size. I liked that there was no smoking, no drinking and no children. Although on my last 2 days, there was a screaming toddler staying at the hotel.
As a solo traveler, I enjoyed the quiet, although other guests were friendly and happy to have a chat, whilst also respecting your need to be alone.
Yoga and pilates teachers were very good and willingly accommodated my injury. One to one personal training with Will was good - a combination of gym, boxing and swimming (again to accommodate my injury).
The Love Kitchen food was amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed my daily spa treatments.
Will definitely be returning.

I really do find the poor reviews about Absolute Sanctuary quite amazing and feel like these negative people stayed in a different hotel to me. I had never been on a health holiday before so was not sure what to expect. I went with a girlfriend whilst our husbands went trekking in Namibia. I am a seasoned traveler and ex British Airways Cabin Crew so have stayed in many hotels and resorts around the world.
I booked directly with the hotel by email, all my questions were answered promptly. We were picked up and everything from the moment of our arrival until we left was fantastic. The booking in staff could not have been more helpful, the staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful. The domestic who cleaned our room was lovely. The girls in the Wellness Reception were helpful, accommodating, changed appointments for us easily. The management staff were on site all of the time and were keen to listen to how our holiday was going. We did the Pilates Reformer and Bok our instructor was amazing. I cannot fault any of the staff, they all made out stay wonderful. We had only been booked for a week, we went to the second hotel and actually returned back to the Sanctuary within 2 hours. They gave us our old room back and a lovely discount.
We met many women who were travelling on their own and they said how safe they felt. I liked the fact that we were away from the town as it made life much easier when detoxing as I was not tempted by the night life near the beach. One of the highlights of the hotel was the lovely lovely food. I am waiting for their new cook book to be published.
We met some people who return every year, because it is so relaxing and calming. The Pilates was amazing and I cannot wait to go back next year with my husband.
Whilst staying an American guest arrived who complained about everything. All of the staff went out of their way to accommodate her but whatever they did was not good enough. I feel that there are some sad people in this world who will never be happy or satisfied.
The only moan I would have is that there needs to be more plants and trees near to the pool area just to soften the concrete.
We did a week of Pilates Reformer and then a 6 day Detox. We used the gym, we did loads of yoga and I wish I was still there. Great value for money.
I stayed 8 nights at the Absolute Sanctuary in April, and it was initially a mixed experience that finalised in a total blissful holistic experience. The place is away from beach and centres, so you are 'captive audience' that was also my purpose of my stay, totally away. Its a place for mental and physical wellness, but I arrived without the signature packages and had to purchase these on site. The wellness staff in general has no competencies of putting together a program other than booking treatment slots, hence it was only when lovely Khun Mimi sorted me out I felt that I got the service and attention I deserved (its not cheap!). This part if probably the easiest for the resort to organise better, make every guest feeling special. More about that below. The resort facilities are 4 star. No alcohol, no smoking, no kids. I loved all of that for the purpose of my stay. The common facilities as the pool area could easily have been upgraded with better sun beds, sitting groups as most people hand out here during the day. Its not many places to sit and relax outside your own room. This is also where the juice bar is, where service fresh detox drinks all day. The rooms are comfortable, nice moroccan design, with basic facilities you need. The beds slightly too hard for my preference and missing good reading light by the bedside. The Love Kitchen serves 3 menus, the detox menu (if you are part of the program), a superfoods menu, and the main menu. All are healthy and good foods. I loved the food and the raw foods creative dishes, not boarding at all after week of green and lean food. I had booked a yoga package prior to arrival, and found out that it was not the full yoga program, yet I enjoyed as many yoga classes I could. Jana was a great teacher and I enjoyed getting into Hot yoga with her. I also tried Pilates with Julie, giving me a head start coming back to city. Very pleasant and top professional teachers! highly recommended! I opted in for a 3 days detox program, that was basically colonic treatments with associated diet for 3 days. I would potentially buy this as a la carte next time, as the "comes with" items might already be what you have as general facilities or in my case the yoga pass I already had purchased. I also discovered that my 3 days detox package despite its price did not have the extensive SPA treatments as for those who had pre-booked this in advance. So there might be some additional services you would enjoy paying the premium price. I also booked several a la carte massage and treatment sessions. All of these with good therapists. My only bad experience was the mix of the massage and reiki session, but the Wellness staff sorted that out. I gave feedback that this needed to be changed to avoid disappointment. I appreciate that Khun Mimi would take this serious and make change to that. For the other staff I would say they are mostly for the calendar keeping and that the help for choosing the right treatments might be a challenge if you don't know what you want/need. Last thing is the location that's quite far off from the beach so if you think about combination with beach life etc this is not the place. I would come back to this resort, I would come back for the peaceful ambiance, the yoga and pilates, some of the wellness treatments, including wonderful holistic doctors, and last but not least wonderful Love Kitchens creations.
Stayed for 4 days. Excellent option for people looking for a yoga /detox holiday. Yoga is excellent and the clean organic food is to die for... It's a quiet boutique resort far from noise and pollution and a great place to unwind and detox.. Great option for women travellers. Beach is far away and it gets pretty hot during the day. Yoga classes and the food is the highlight.

We had a modified detox package which was 4 nights and 3 days. Overall the treatments, exercise schedule, juices and food offered were quite good. There was quite an extensive menu available. Our deluxe room was also very comfortable and clean. What made our experience only average was the service and inflexibility of the program! On the day we arrived we had some time before the official program commenced and wanted to get some additional spa treatments (which we were willing to pay for separately) however we were met by a very abrupt lady at the wellness centre who told us the schedule was full. Eventually after some back and forth we were advise that there one time slot available at 7pm for an hour treatment. This meant my friend and I had to decide which one of us would use this seemingly scarce opportunity to relax!!! Which was part of our aim on coming on the retreat. Furthermore our schedule was pre-planned with treatments included in the package already booked in for the duration of our stay (which was nice). However, as a result of the spa schedule being full there was no way to reschedule any of the treatments if they did not suit our preferences. For example if you wanted to go for a yoga class at a set time and your spa treatment was scheduled at that time...tough luck!! We were also not advised that Pilates classes had to be pre-booked, we were only told that the activities and workshops had to be booked a day in advance. As a result in our 3 days we were only able to attend one pilates class as all the others were full. If we had been advised before we arrived that there is high demand for the spa and pilates classes we could have easily pre-booked before our arrival, unfortunately we were not informed. With regards to meals, our package included 2 meals a day, we chose to have the raw food option. One day we decided to have breakfast rather than dinner. Although there were one or two raw options on the breakfast menu we were told that we were not entitled to chose from that menu, we had to select form the normal detox menu which does not offer any breakfast options, we would have only had the choice of one of the raw salads from the normal detox menu which we were selecting from for lunch and dinner. We then explained that we would prefer to have something from the breakfast menu and we would skip dinner, although we were finally served we were advise that this is not acceptable and is outside our program and chargeable. This seemed unreasonable as we would still only have 2 meals per day as per the program offering. Similarly, one evening I was not feeling too well and requested to have a juice rather than dinner however I was told this was not possible, I would have to pay for the additional juice even though I was skipping dinner!!! The "Wellness Consultation" is also quite average, given the cost and purpose of the retreat I would have expected the doctor to have a consultation with me directly however prior to meeting the doctor the wellness centre staff use a blood pressure machine to take your BP and they use a machine to measure other body measurements and give that information to the doctor which he then just goes through with you. I question the accuracy of the machine in being able to measure hydration, visceral fat, BMI etc accurately. Our gym consultations at home are more thorough in measuring these body metrics. They don't even measure your height, they just ask you for it! Although the spa treatments, yoga classes and menu selection were good our overall experience was tainted by the inflexibility of the program and service. As such we will question coming back again for a longer stay.
We spent a month on Koh Samui and decided the Absolute Sanctuary would be our primary place of practice. You definitely get the most for your money at Absolute. They have great, experienced instructors. Most of our classes were with Jana who is very knowledgeable, professional and a great teacher. We are both yoga teachers, so our expectations tend to be high, but Jana and Absolute delivered. You don't need anything but yourself and maybe some water (which you can buy there too). They provide you with mats and towels for your practice and afterwards for the shower. The facility is very nice and the yoga studio is excellent. We ended up practicing there nearly every day of our stay as they have a variety of classes on the schedule, ranging from hot classes to yin or more flow based classes. We did try other places on the island, but Absolute was our favorite. Thank you!
Ok, this was a last minute booking, I booked for the 5 days (6 night) fitness package. To be honest I was very worried since I was traveling alone and the place seems to be for couples. Anyway, when I got there I was really surprised. The staff and manager super friendly & helpful. The place is full with solo travelers. They have the lovely kitchen which provide you 3 meals a day of healthy delicious food. The hot yoga classes are the best I have ever taken, both the instructors (Scott & the other lady forgot her name :p) were amazing. Finally and most importantly, since the fitness package is mainly based on one-to-one personal training session a day, my instructor was Marcos, and he was just amazing, we did boxing and other really sweaty fun exercise. Marcos was amazing & really knowledgeable. And his power Aqua classes were great also. One more thing, the massages ... oh ... the best massages. I am just in love with this place! I don't even have one bad comments. And yes, the rooms are big and clean.
After 10 days of yoga and detox in another resort, we stayed at Absolute Sanctuary for four days as a 'post detox' treat. The rooms, pool area and soundings are very nice and the food in the restaurant was really good after our detox. Yoga and other classes are also good. But the place unfortunately lacks the service you expect at a place where you pay US 2500 for a four day yoga package. It's also annoying that at each and every occasion in the bar, restaurant etc. are informed this is "not within your package", we would gladly have paid for these exclusions ! But again was the service not up to the required level. After our visit I have read some of the other Tripadvisor reviews of Absolute Sanctuary and I can see that more have experienced the same as us; upon arrival we were informed that our bio check, yoga would start the next day and we have to pay for food, juices etc as well on the first arrival day. Then it's not really a four days package but more a three day! The first day of massage was really a disappointment as the package included for a daily 60 min aroma massage or 90 min Thai massage, but it turned out to be the shortest massage I ever had in Thailand of 41 minutes including changing time ! Following day both of us had a very good massage with 'Took'. All in all a nice stay at Absolute Sanctuary but they need to improve the service/management for us to return, as there are many other places in Koh Samui at that price with detox etc. with far better service.

Have just returned from a week here having bid for it at an auction. Had some doubts before going but had a wonderful holiday. We were on the spa programme and so could eat all the delicious healthy food...even the carrot cake! The treatments were just great...2 or 3 a day. Yes, very quiet in the evening as most people there to detox etc and have lots of sleep. But we knew that before going. We strayed out to eat once locally but missed our healthy dinner! The doctors assessment before was not really relevant to our programme and he did seem a bit disinterested. Had the colonic which I was very nervous about and would have appreciated being told what to expect a bit more beforehand. Yes the rooms aren't luxurious but you are not going for a 5 star hotel. The yoga and Pilates were great and teachers very patient with me as I was clearly hopeless! The staff were all lovely...special mention to the restaurant manager....Kamur...I think. He was really informative. For someone who loves their food and drink, I had an amazing time and would definitely return. Let's hope I can keep all the good work up.
It was our third year of visiting hotel’s facilities as guests and first year to be the residents. This time we decided to stay in the hotel, as we liked it very much and wanted to use more facilities. If you are looking for healthy way holidays or pump up yourself with some diets and sport activities, this place is ideal. The restaurant offers healthy and delicious food from raw and detoxer menu to alternatives with meat and chicken but always using only healthy ingredients, which is always suitable for any kind of people, for example, if you are not on detox program but still want to eat healthy. This year, being residents, we could follow healthy eating on breakfast as well, as this part was always missing from our program in previous years , it was very important for our diet and we were very satisfied with quality and variety. Special words I would like to say about yoga program and classes. It is best organised, cleanest and most comfortable class I have ever had in my life! I have been so pleased again and would like to say special thanks to Jana- yoga instructor for her professionalism and patience. The classroom is big, clean, facing to the jungle and well equipped with all what you need: mats, towels, bolsters and so on… The hot yoga is fantastic! You can do your 90 minutes in very comfortable way as room temperature very carefully controlled during all the class time. There is a juice bar by the pool offers great choice of fresh juices - we had one - two every day. The variety of fruits and vegetables is very big and you can choose new combination every day or follow you favorite one… The swimming pool is very clean, big and good depth and length for comfortable swimming. Rooms are simple, on my mind, could be more comfortable by adding more pieces of furniture, cloth shelves, night tables with drawers and so on... Visitors should pay attention that hotel is located in the jungles, if you need to go to the town or other life, better to get transport. But if you are following any of special program, there is no need to go out of the hotel, as programs are very well balanced and offer everything you need.

The treatments are good. I had nine massages and the foot massage in particular was excellent. Marco my gym instructor was excellent and devised a workout that didn't aggravate my back. Negatives include my pick up from the airport not being there. Soulless dining room and a 2700 baht charge they wanted to levy for me staying an extra two hours in my room after check out time. My flight was at 7 pm and they had treatments scheduled for me all afternoon. So I have nowhere to shower or change before boarding my flight. A bit means as I had paid £2700 for 9 days here.
I just finished my 7 days yoga holiday. I had a really good time here. Nice rooms, swimming pool, very friendly and helpfull staff, good wellness centre, delicious healthy food at The Love Kitchen. The programme also included some fitness activities. Thanks Marco, the aqua fitness was great!
I was on a 5 days / 6 nights "be fit" program which was great! The food was excellent and the yoga and personal trainers too. The entire staff was very friendly. The only thing I could say, is, if your program has not started yet- I had it this on my first day when I arrived - you need to pay extra for food (even though you paid the overnight and be fit fixed rate). I felt very fit and relaxed after these 5 days. The rooms are not the newest anymore, but they are nice. I was on the top floor and had a beautiful view over palm trees, swimming pool and to the ocean. Once my aircon did not work, but they fixed it immediately. I can recommend this place if you really want to relax. I also met nice people from all over the world with the same mindset, so no problem if you travel alone. The island itself changed a lot, I have been at Koh Samui 15 years ago and it was a bit different. So I did not left the resort anymore, but this was no problem as I had a full time program every day. The massages were also perfect! Foot and Thai massage my favourite ones.
My boyfriend and I stayed here two times during our stay at Koh Samui. A great resort hidden away from the busy Chaweng where you really can enjoy pure tranquility. The first time, we stayed in the superior room with beach view - nice room with everything you need. On our second stay, we were upgraded to the deluxe room with sea view. The big plus here is the bath tub where you can lay and relax and watch the sea. Amazing! We didn't join any program. We just booked what we wanted to do. The yoga and pilates classes were great. The gym is small but it has everything you need. Also, we chilled by the lovely pool. The breakfast is huge and healthy. The staff did everything for you to make sure you have a pleasant stay. The only thing you have to know, is that the resort is a bit far from everything. So if you eat somewhere else you have to use the shuttle service or taxis. There is a really nice restaurant 5 minutes walk away, PUI Relax a must if you want to try something else other than The Love Kitchen, which is great as well, but the prices outside the resort is of course must cheaper.
I went to Absolute Sanctuary for a "de-stress" 9 day stay. Overall it delivered that for me. Lots of pampering and sitting by the pool. The accommodation itself was less than what I was expecting. My room was painted in dark colors which made it feel small and a little depressing - but I guess it gets you out of the room during the day! The food was really fresh and delicious - I really looked forward to meal time so I could try something new on their extensive menu. On the downside it was further away from the beach than I expected but they do have a shuttle to take you down there.
Fabulous programs for detox, fitness or burn out recovery and yoga/pilates.This is a health retreat, not a regular hotel. You come here to work on an exercise/get fit/yoga or pilates program, follow a comprehensive detox program or to recover from burnout by doing a de stress program. The hotel is not by the sea, it is on a mountain side with jungle around you that means you have fabulous chorus of jungle insects at various times of the day and night. You can only see the sea from some of the rooms. Most have a view to garden areas or the pool. It is a very quiet place and most guests are working hard, so it is early to bed early to rise. There is no alcohol and smoking is not allowed. Your program is all worked out for you then you just follow it ,with quiet recovery time in between your treatments or activities, most people spend this time resting/reading/working out their program timetable, by the salt water pool. All your meals and juices are scheduled in (depending on which program you are doing) and the food at the Love Kitchen is excellent. The juice bar by the pool makes getting your next schedules juice very very easy. The rooms are very clean and comfortable in a Moroccan theme. Not luxury at all but functional and spotlessly clean, serviced daily by wonderful staff. Due to island plumbing, some of toilets in the resort are not able to cope with loo paper, so be prepared for this. (well positioned signage tells you when have to use the baskets provided). The Wellness Centre where you go for scheduled massages, colonics, sauna, spa treatments etc is also spotless and the staff are fantastic. Some of the staff have limited English but you can always find someone who has excellent English if you need to. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. The yoga and pilates classes are fantastic with excellent instructors. Take something to hang your washing on if you will have exercise gear to rinse out. Most guests rinse out their washing and hang it out to dry on their balconies. It dries fast. There is also a laundry service available. There is a shuttle service for guests who wish to leave the retreat for shopping/ outings etc.I highly recommend Absolute Sanctuary for a serious exercise, detox, fitness, yoga/pilates or de-stress retreat. There are stairs everywhere in the resort so you get lots of incidental exercise and need to be able to walk well to manage all the stairs. I was hospitalised during my 3 weeks detox program due to a severe throat infection. The staff were absolutely fantastic, came to the hospital to see me and did everything they possibly could to assist and took great care of me upon my return to finish my final week of detox. I was extremely grateful. Thank you Absolute Sanctuary. We also met some wonderful people here, all with a common understanding of the importance of good health and well being. Will definitely return to do another program.

I stayed for 8 nights participating in the juice fast. The resort was relatively quiet for the first 5 days and everything was run incredibly smoothly - juices were prepared promptly, treatment schedules were easily accommodated and there was a lot of individual attention in yoga and Pilates classes and group activities. In the last few days there was an influx of people and the experience deteriorated a little - massages and treatments were still lovely but quite rushed (my 75 minute scrub was done in 45 minutes), classes were very busy and I had to skip my juice on a number of occasions as there was a line up at the juice bar and my schedule was packed quite tightly. The restaurant had also run out of quiet a few ingredients. All staff encountered were great - from the yoga instructors (particularly Jana) to the wellness centre staff to the housekeepers. Accommodation was comfortable and the food I had on the last night was delicious. All in all a great experience and a very effective detox.
I was at this 'sanctuary' for a 10 day Yin Yoga Teacher's Training course conducted by Sarah Powers recently. Although I thought the Moroccan-styled structures a little incongruous with the rest of Samui in the beginning, I soon grew accustomed to the warm colours, and even found myself taking pictures of the different bulbous lamps all around the property.Since I didn't take advantage of the wellness facilities, I can't comment on them. However, the massage therapists were well-trained and the deep tissue massage really did manage to ease my muscular strains. The rest of the hotel staff were unfailingly efficient, consistently sweet and smiley. My only grouse is that the chef may have been a bit too liberal in his use of Thai fish sauce and soy sauce, as I developed some allergic symptoms - this happens whenever I consume foods with a high MSG content. The variety of vegetables used (the dishes were mostly vegetarian ones) was wide and colourful indeed; he just has to learn to make them tasty in a 'cleaner' way.Overall, I had a comfortable and peaceful stay. Oh, and the fact that they offer a wide choice of pillow types definitely contributed to my deep slumber, nightly.

I was on a 5D6N juice-fast detox program. Before I arrived I researched on many articles about detox. My greatest fear was that I might get depressed during my holiday due to the toxin purge but never at any point of time was I depressed or unhappy. There was a plenitude of activities going on: numerous yoga classes which catered to different levels, pilates, aqua aerobics, sunrise walk to the beach. The staff were all very friendly and they address you by your first name and they knew which program you were on so they never offered you food if you are not supposed to have any. There is a shuttle service to Choeng Mon Beach and Chaweng Beach although Choeng Mon is probably about 20 minutes walk away. The nurses in-charge of the colonic hydrotherapy were very helpful and I was never uncomfortable during their presence. I didn't get to taste much of the food except the breakfast before my departure. The coconut yoghurt was really yummy! My only complain was that the air-con in my room was leaking after 2 hours of usage but they fixed it immediately. If you are traveling alone, like I did, I recommend you to keep an open heart for you never know how some conversations can lead to clarity of the mind.
One of the best holidays I have ever taken. This was my first time at a health retreat and it was an amazing experience. From the moment I arrived I was looked after by the staff. I did a 5 day detox with raw living foods and the restaurant menu was brilliant. Would highly recommend to anyone needing to re-set their overall diet and mindset. I was glowing when I left. The only improvement I would suggest is replacing the shower heads in the bathroom!
It was really one of the best resorts you could find to start detox treatments or yoga classes. All the management personnel and staff were so helpful, kind, approachable, and supportive. From the warm welcome to the emotional goodbye, everyone was so friendly.
My friend and I booked this hotel for a yoga holiday. The place was very peaceful and clean. Staff is friendly. Our package included 3 days of unlimited yoga classes and activities, 3 meals a day (vegetarian menu) and 60 minutes aromatherapy massage per day and 2 detox drinks daily. The yoga room was big and the classes have quite some yoga style options e.g. Hatha, Flow, Hot, Pranayama, Absolute Fit class, and many more. Teachers are experienced. The spa place was quiet, pleasant, relaxing, and we did have a great time at the spa. There is only one restaurant in the hotel though and with quite limited choices so we did went out to town for food in the next 2 evenings. The hotel is only 5 minutes away from the airport, 15 minutes away from Chaweng beach. I would recommend this place if you want to do a detox program.
My first time staying in Absolute Sanctuary was a very interesting experience. This place centers absolutely everything about your health, from the healthy food and drinks they serve, to the massages, detox cleansing programs, and yoga. I hardly do yoga or think carefully about what I eat, so to be totally involved in the healthy program was rather challenging! But it didn't take very long for me to get comfortable. I am all praises for the staff at the detox center and the yoga teacher - they get high marks for being professional yet dedicated in their work. The accommodation though simple, I had a very comfortable stay and every night I slept very well. I came to Absolute Sanctuary stressed, but I left the place absolutely well rested and healthier for sure!
