This grade 4 Retreat and Conference center have the most amazing accommodation. Single en-suite rooms with beamed ceilings, gorgeous windows, and different sizes of doors, this building is beautiful.

Use of this retreat center will create a serene space to work, explore and enjoy our practice. Walking, strolling, meditating, and practicing yoga within the grounds.

Program

Yogic practices to explore and improve your state of wellbeing. During this retreat, you will have the opportunity to enjoy yoga classes twice a day, mindfulness practices each day, walking on Saturday and Sunday. A sound bath healing session and optional Kriya -yoga cleansing techniques taught during the weekend.

There will be some free time for you to relax and stroll around the ruins of a 14th-century Cistercian Abbey. Yoga will be practiced outside as much as possible in good weather. Your evening will be spent with relaxations, candle gazing, Indian head massage, and hand massage, or if restrictions exist, face yoga, wall yoga, and yoga Nidra.

  • A chance to learn about and practice cleansing techniques such as Netti and others

  • Enjoy pair yoga and laughter yoga (optional)
  • Walks on Saturday afternoon and if desired Sunday afternoon
  • Spending time in silence on the grounds of this beautiful Abbey

Asana classes

The yoga positions termed asanas will help you to tone, stretch, develop flexibility, and build up strength in your body. By concentrating on the posture, the mind becomes quiet, the breath becomes slow, and self-awareness is developed. Yoga is non-competitive and is suitable for all.

If you are suffering any pain or health conditions, please let 4wellbeing know since alternative postures and modifications can be used. Within the classes, you will bring attention to the breath, chakras, chanting, and experience wonderful flowing salutations practiced with yogic music.

Relaxation techniques

Specific techniques will be taught to totally relax the body and mind allowing the body to absorb the work that has taken place. Relaxation also brings about a feeling of well-being and contentment that can be taken into your daily life. Yoga Nidra brings an intense feeling of stillness to the mind and body and is very healing. Yoga philosophy will also be touched on within the lessons to help you to highlight the link between mind, breath, and body and to develop the awareness of the self and inner guidance.

Yogic breath sessions

Yogic breathing techniques will help you to slow the activity of the mind as the slow smooth breathing makes the mind calm. This practice is both relaxing and revitalizing to the whole body and reduces stress. You will be taught various breathing techniques and after gaining more control of the breath. You will move onto pranayama and more advanced work. The use of these techniques can have a deep positive effect on your health.

Retreat location

Whalley Abbey is now the retreat and Conference House of the Diocese of Blackburn. The ruins of the abbey are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and are a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The manor house has beamed rooms, beautiful gardens and a bright and high ceiling room in which to practice yoga. Yoga can also take place within these amazing ruins weather permitting.

Whalley Abbey has many walks with an amazing viaduct to see.

Whalley Abbey's address is The Sands, Whalley, Clitheroe BB7 9TN. It is close to the M60. Trains run from Manchester to Blackburn frequently, and the Abbey is 1/2 a mile from the Abbey. There is free parking.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 25% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
